Abstract

Literacy development in Indonesia is still reported to be low. This is written in the findings of a 2020 program for international student assessment (PISA) survey, which found that Indonesia ranked 72 out of 79 countries in the world in reading literacy. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the implementation of the school literacy movement program was done online. The purpose of this study is to investigate the implementation of SLM throughout the Covid-19 era, as well as the barriers encountered by teachers during the SLM implementation process. The case study method is used in this work, which takes a qualitative approach. Data was collected by observation, interviews, and documentation, and data was analyzed utilizing triangulation techniques in three stages: collection, reduction, and conclusion. The findings revealed that schools were still practicing the three steps of SLM, namely habituation, development, and learning. During the epidemic, literacy exercises are introduced in which students are directed to be productive in their work through writing tasks. The work of the students is published in the form of a book. The challenge to implement SLM during the Covid-19 pandemic has been teachers' inability to manage students' reading comprehension exercises properly.

Abstract

This research aims to reveal how literature lecturers communicate eco-theological values through the teaching of literature, as well as identify the obstacles. This type of research is qualitative, with a narrative approach. The main data were taken from in-depth interviews with literature lecturers. The data analysis technique used in this research is thematic analysis with a hermeneutic approach. Data validity uses triangulation of data sources, member checking, and critical reflection from the researcher. The results showed that: 1) eco-theological becomes a theoretical reflection on the approach used by the speakers; 2) literary works can act as ecological and spiritual preaching spaces; 3) insignificant ecological literacy, curriculum limitations, and students’ unpreparedness become structural and cultural challenges in literary education with an eco-theological perspective); and 4) the need for curriculum reformulation in literature to improve the eco-theological approach. In this pivotal point, teaching can be seen as da’wah and da’wah is not merely about religiosity in orthodox perception.

Abstract

This study examined the effectiveness of a digital library featuring illustrated stories with disaster mitigation content in enhancing reading literacy and environmental care among elementary students. The programme addressed the issue of a lack of individuals possessing adequate reading and writing skills, while concurrently emphasising the significance of imparting environmental education to children from an early age, a particularly salient consideration in regions such as Indonesia, where there is a high incidence of natural disasters. The present study employed a quantitative one-group pretest–posttest design, with 30 fourth-grade students (aged 9–10 years) being selected through purposive sampling. The instruments comprised a reading literacy test and a Likert-scale measure of attitudes towards environmental care. Due to non-normal distribution, data were analysed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results revealed significant improvements in reading literacy and environmental care attitudes, with all students achieving positive ranks. There were no declines recorded, and positive effects were evident in terms of students’ enthusiasm, active participation, and ability to connect stories with real-life disaster experiences. These results show that combining digital illustrated stories with disaster mitigation content is an effective way to support literacy development, character education and environmental awareness.

Abstract

Abstract: For the purpose of developing a comprehensive method of interpreting the Qur'an, Al-Qur'an researchers have written research manuscripts containing criticism of exegetical and hermeneutical methods. However, the weakness of this criticism is that it only focuses on the weak points of the two methods. This research explores data regarding criticism of the two methods of interpreting the Qur'an by showing the weaknesses and strengths of both. For the purpose of finding a comprehensive method of interpreting the Qur'an, this paper proposes the possibility of integration between the two methods. The method used in this research is descriptive-analytical within the framework of a literature study. With this method, tafsir and hermeneutical methods are described and analyzed based on literature reviews or literature studies of both. Next, there is a proposed methodological alternatives within the framework of integrating the two methods. The conclusion from this research is that it is very possible to integrate the two methods to obtain a comprehensive interpretation method. Regarding the possibility of integration, this research offers a method of interpreting the Qur'an namely Interpretive Exegetical Methodology.

Abstract

Background: The Teaching Factory (TEFA) method has emerged as a practical approach in ESP Maritime English, particularly in enhancing cadets’ participation in simulated maritime scenarios such as loading and unloading communication, onboard communication checking, and goods tracking via phone. Grounded in experiential learning theory, TEFA bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, preparing cadets for industry demands.Methodology: This study used qualitative case study approach to explore seventh-year maritime cadets’ perceptions of the TEFA method. The subjects were seventh semester maritime cadets from maritime academy. Data collection involved classroom observations and semi-structured interviews, focusing on the cadets’ engagement, confidence, and learning outcomes.Findings: The results showed that 65% of cadets agreed that TEFA made learning Maritime English easier, while 60% found the method enjoyable and engaging. Additionally, 55% of cadets reported reduced anxiety, attributing their increased confidence to the hands-on learning experience provided by TEFA simulations. However, 15% of cadets remained neutral, expressing the need for more structured guidance and additional practice to adapt to the interactive learning approach fully. Conclusion: This study concludes that TEFA effectively bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical maritime communication, making learning more industry relevant. Future research should examine blended learning methods, digital feedback systems, and long-term evaluations to strengthen TEFA’s role in improving cadets’ communication skills and preparedness for maritime operations. Integrating online and practical training can enhance learning flexibility while reinforcing real-world application through virtual simulations. Digital feedback tools can help cadets refining pronunciation and fluency by providing immediate assessments and personalized guidance.Originality: This study addresses a gap in understanding how TEFA influences cadets’ perceptions and learning outcomes in ESP Maritime English, particularly in simulated maritime scenarios. It provides insights into the method’s effectiveness and areas for improvement, offering a foundation for future innovations in maritime education.
