Abstract

ABSTRACT: The teachers were expected to apply a new approach with various teaching activities to motivate students to learn. The sample consisted of 68 low achievers’ students, who were then divided into two groups: 34 students were treated in the treatment group, while another 34 students were put in the control group. This is a quasi-experiment of non equivalent control group design. The questionnaire was distributed to students of both groups, to test the effectiveness of the integration approach. Analysis of the mean and standard deviation was conducted for both groups, while the null hypothesis was tested by the t-test. Based on the pre-test, there was no significant difference between the two groups. The post-test recorded significant motivational differences between the two groups studied. It was determined that the integrated History lesson with multiple intelligences had increased the level of motivation among students in the treatment group. This shows, that diversity of methods and activities undertaken, were able to change students’ perception about the History subject and had increased their interests to learn History. Hence, integrated multiple intelligence activities are able to increase students motivation to learn the History.KEY WORD: Integrated multiple intelligence, students’ motivation, readiness to learn, history subject, new approach, and teachers’ teaching practices.IKHTISAR: “Amalan Kecerdasan Bersepadu untuk Memberi Motivasi kepada Pelajar-pelajar Berpencapaian Rendah dalam Subjek Sejarah”. About the Authors: Assoc. Abstract

Malaysia is a heterogenic country as the nation is formed by multiracial.  Thus, national stability and racial harmony are depending on how relationship among ethnics is enhanced and preserved in order to form a strong nation state.  The government is fully aware that educational institutions are the most important  disseminators of unity values in enhancing the nation of Malaysia.  Schools are the main disseminators through curriculum development and evaluation towards values of unity and national integration, in restoring understanding on the nation and the country.   The Curriculum Development Model is the foundation of the research proposal to serve as an implementation manual to inculcate values of unity through History Curriculum.  The implementation involves  five  relevant constructs  in defining curriculum, involving comprehensive efforts in providing  students education, which are: (1) textual contents (text books)  (2) pedagogical elements, (3) inculcation of values, (4) usage of teaching aids and (5) assessment. This research evaluates the relationship among the five constructs towards the elements of racial unity in establsihing the nation state of Malaysia, with the demise of prejudiced and racial gap.  The comprehensive curriculum empathizes on the importance of holistic unity components to ensure that the inculcation of values is successfully done through multiple dimensions.

Abstract

This study related to previous studies emphasizing the importance of conceptual understanding towards the improvement of the historical thinking process. It was aimed at finding out how ethnical elements influence the acquisition of students’ conceptual understanding in history as well as observing the differences and the correlation between multi-ethnic students’ conceptual understanding level and the historical thinking aspects. This study was a survey study using instruments of tests and interviews with students based on stratified sampling taken from the whole Malay Peninsula comprising four zones of North Zone (21.9%), South Zone (22.1%), Central Zone (34.0%) and East Zone (22.0%). The rating scale for conceptual understanding and historical thinking was excellent, good, fair, and poor. The test items used within the test were based on the curriculum of history for Sekolah Menengah Tingkatan Empat (Form Four of Secondary School) including early civilization, South East civilization, Islamic civilization and European civilization. Theories from experts were considered in the composition of test items and in order to ensure the reliability of the result. Interviews were also conducted to get teachers’ response to the teaching of conceptual understanding and historical thinking. Six teachers were chosen for the interview. the data shows that students’ conceptual understanding level was fair in general (mean=3.07, s.p = 1.103) where the historical thinking was poor (mean = 1.94, s.p = 0.834). Students’ conceptual understanding level will affect their thinking ability and analysis towards the subject matter. Malay students were different significantly in conceptual understanding and history thinking from the Chinese and Indian ones. The clarity of instruction showed a high correlation with conceptual understanding while learning activities showed a high correlation with historical thinking.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered people to make massive use of fintech. This fintech adoption increases the level of Islamic financial literacy. Fintech-based social finance services are no exception. This study aims to capture the initial development of the use of fintech for philanthropic purposes by using a qualitative-descriptive method with a literature study and content analysis approach. The results of the study show that within the time the article was published, there was a gradual increase in user awareness of the need to adopt fintech. Before the time of the pandemic, awareness of fintech adoption remained low. After 2019, based on historical studies and its evolution in Islamic fund management, it is predicted that fintech will have great potential going forward. The profile of fintech service users will increase in the baby-boomer generation. Generation X and Z consumers will play a significant role in the global economy, while the millennial generation is bringing major changes to the behavioural demographics and user expectations for fintech services. Moreover, fintech services emerged in Indonesia using the Agricultural Value Chain Financing (AVCF) approach, namely a platform that improves agricultural-based product services for consumers and provides more flexible financial assistance for AVCF players. On the social finance side, almost all of the respondents knew about fintech, and they agreed that fintech offers a lot of conveniences and benefits. Fintech increases the intention of Muslim millennials to donate easily, even though not all agree and are comfortable using fintech to donate. In 2020, the phenomenon of Islamic Fintech emerged, and it was found that perceptions of benefits and convenience, behavioural intentions, as well as trust, are determinants of using fintech for philanthropic purposes.
