Abstract

An administrator plays a vital role in the growth and development of his/her subordinates. Despite this notion, the role of an administrator in the context of training programs and transfer of training is not well studied. Therefore, this study is set to examine the relationship between administrator’s role in training programs and training transfer. A survey method was utilized to gather 706 survey questionnaires from employees of local authorities of three cities in the state of Sarawak, Malaysia. The results of SmartPLS path model analysis confirmed that the ability of administrators to properly implement support, communication and assignment in planning and implementing training programs has been an important predictor of training transfer in the studied organization. Further, this study provides discussion, implications and conclusion.

Abstract

According to recent literature that relates to organizational leadership, transformational leadership consists of three important elements: idealized influence, individual consideration and intellectual stimulation. Extant studies in this area highlighted that the ability of the leaders in implementing these transformational processes (to execute organizational functions) may have a significant impact on individual outcome especially organizational commitment. Although this relationship has been studied, the mediating role of transformational leadership has taken a less prominent role in organizational leadership model. Recent studies on organizational leadership have emphasized that transformational leadership has three important characteristics: idealized influence, individual consideration and intellectual stimulation. The purpose of this paper is to examine the influence of empowerment in the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational commitment; by using 77 usable questionnaires gathered from employees who worked at a foreign manufacturing company in Free Trade Zone, Malaysia. Results of SmartPLS path model analysis confirm that empowerment does act as an important mediating variable in the relationship between transformational leadership and organizational commitment in the organizational sample. In the succeeding sections, discussion, implications and conclusion are elaborated.

Abstract

Research Aims: This study examines the mediating effect of psychological empowerment on the relationship between transformational leadership and employee creativity in a financial organisation in Peninsular Malaysia. Design/Methodology/Approach: Quantitative methods were employed in this study. Two hundred questionnaires were distributed to employees of Islamic financial institutions in Malaysia. Of these, only 153 questionnaires were usable. Random sampling and partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) techniques were utilised in data analysis. Research Findings: The results of the analysis showed that psychological empowerment had an indirect effect on the impact of transformational leadership on employee creativity in the organisation under study. Theoretical Contribution/Originality: The result aligned with Spreitzer's (1995) concept of self-motivation through increasing self-esteem and modifying resilience, which promotes motivational behaviour in organisations. Managerial Implication in the South East Asian Context: Transformational leadership has been shown to be effective in addressing crises in organisational management. Leadership that applies this concept is able to sustain the organisation and its competitiveness over time, especially in Asia. Research Limitation & Implications: During the duration of this research, the data were collected only once. The sample for this study was obtained from a single organisation, and the only method used to collect data was a questionnaire. In times of globalisation and economic turmoil, practitioners can use the findings of this study to practice transformational leadership to sustain and support the vision and mission of an organisation.

Abstract

The generation gap is critical, especially when employees do not agree about some terms that affect their completion of tasks. This issue is debated in organizations, causing incompatibilities between human resource management and development structures. Hence, these constraints led this study to measure the differences shown by generations X and Y, and how they impact the relationship between psychological empowerment, employee performance, and organizational commitment. This research used questionnaires and in-depth interviews as the main procedures for collecting and obtaining data—196 items of data were received from the Malaysian Islamic Finance Agency. SmartPLS software was used to test the research hypotheses and the differences between the two groups are Gen X and Y (PLS-MGA). The results of the PLS-MGA test confirmed that, in the relationship of psychological empowerment and job performance alone, it was found there was a generational difference between X and Y (p-value < 0.05). However, while running the hypothesis test (using the bootstrapping test), it was found that both hypotheses are acceptable, which shows the relationship between psychological empowerment and job performance based on two different groups, namely Gen Y = t-statistic (10.961) and Gen X = t-statistic (11.993). Thus, H1 is supported. Meanwhile, the relationship between psychological empowerment and organizational commitment is based on two different groups, namely Gen Y = t-statistic (8.675) and Gen X = t-statistic (8.349), which means H2 is also supported. Consequently, it is hoped that the findings of this study will serve as essential guidance for employers in both the public and private sectors. Human resource management teams can use the findings to understand the natural complexity of psychological empowerment constructs in realizing the challenges and difficulties in predicting organizational goals, in terms of job performance and organizational commitment.

Abstract

This article aims to elaborate on the Peresean tradition, which is a unique and typical tradition among the Sasak tribe in Lombok, Indonesia. This tradition was held in ancient times to train fighters to fight invaders and beseech for rain. Nowadays, it is used to greet guests or tourists and celebrate national holidays, religious holidays, and traditional days. The present study employed ethnographic approaches. The researcher conducted the study in the West Nusa Tenggara province of Indonesia, specifically focusing on the Sasak tribe. This study result indicates that motivational reasons established from the Peresean tradition are to preserve culture and belief motivation. Meanwhile, the values education implies behind the violence in the Peresean tradition are, first, to strengthen the sense of solidarity and kinship between religions and local community members. Second, the values of such a tradition educate the mentality of sportsmanship to abide by Peresean rules. The third is to educate, in the spirit of courage and toughness, the young generation of the Sasak people in defending and contending for the sake of tribe, religion, and country. The integration between values-education, and people's motivation is the foundation and pillar for preserving the Peresean tradition in the Sasak tribe until today.

Abstract

Purpose—This study aims to determine the relationship between bullying experiences and learning habits and critical thinking skills in social science learning in higher education.Methodology—This research is a correlational study with 90 samples. Data for the three variables of this study were collected through the distribution of Google Form questionnaires. Data analysis used multiple correlations, but the first prerequisite tests, including validity, reliability, normality, and homogeneity, were carried out.Findings—The research results show that bullying experiences and study habits significantly affect students’ critical thinking skills, where rcount> table or 0,865>0,2050 shows a positive relationship. Furthermore, the significance value is 0,000< 0.05, so the data shows a significant relationship between bullying experience, learning habits, and critical thinking. Maintaining and preserving appropriate study habits will prevent bullying, no matter how severe, from affecting your critical thinking ability.Contribution – This study provides important insights into how bullying experiences and learning habits significantly affect students' critical thinking skills.
