Abstract

The development of financial technology made many changes, including Islamic finance. This paper reviews how fintech is changing the shape of the Islamic finance industry through mobile payments, microfinance, peer-to-peer lending, and crowdfunding. The use of e-wallet is as long as it does not violate the provisions. Microfinance cannot be separated from Islamic finance if we want to increase social welfare through inclusive growth and encourage the distribution of wealth. Islamic microfinance structure can deal with the problem of poverty. The appropriate and fair crowdfunding model for small businesses is profit sharing or using mudaraba contracts. In Islamic finance, the role of bitcoin is controversial.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to examine empirically the influence of financial literacy on investment decisions through ponzi and pyramid schemes. Variables embedded were Social Economic Characteristics, Financial Literacy and Investments Decision. The population of this study were the people who invest their money through a Ponzi scheme and pyramid scheme. The sampling method applied was a snowball sampling of 43 respondents. Based from the research result, it was concluded that social economic characteristics, positively influences financial literacy. While, financial literacy influenced investment decision through ponzi and pyramid schemes. It is freaky because the people with good financial literacy (job occupation, education, gender and income) are still trapped under these junk investment trick modes. It was assumed that there were the other factors as the example, psychological factor like individual greed that influenced the financially literate people to invest through both junk investment schemes. It was also suggested a modification in financial literacy measuring because the existing financial literacy measuring tools had not been able to accommodate the understanding of ponzi and pyramid scheme investment.

Abstract

This research was conducted to extend the study of social trading using the behavioral finance perspective, the role of trust and a mixed-method approach from followers on social trading platforms. This research uses a mixed-method approach. In the first stage, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 11 follower traders by snowball sampling to find out the factors that influence traders' investment and trading behavior through social trading platforms. The second stage will quantitatively test the model using SmartPLS with 342 follower traders. Respondents in the second stage are followers of traders with real accounts on social trading platforms. Data was collected by accidental sampling using an online questionnaire distributed through forums and trader communities. The behavioral finance perspective is the basis of this research because empirical psychology can provide a good explanation when people are faced with uncertainty, which in this case is the uncertainty of trading results. Until now, research on social trading has mostly discussed about behavioral biases from the perspective of top leaders, not followers. Why people trust and mimic the behavior of traders through social trading platforms is an interesting question. Trust plays a vital role in the world of finance and technology, but very little research has addressed the role of trust in social trading. This research closes that gap by discussing the role of trust in social trading from a behavioral finance perspective. The results of this study conclude that Optimism, Herding, Stereotype bias, Confirmation bias, and Hot hand fallacy have a positive effect on trading decisions. Trust in trader leaders also strengthens the influence of optimism and stereotype bias on trading decisions.
