Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of passing training using a takraw hoop and paired passing training on the passing accuracy of adolescent sepak takraw athletes in Gorontalo Regency. The study employed an experimental method, providing a structured training program over 16 sessions at a frequency of 6 per week. The study utilized a two-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 20 athletes, and passing accuracy was measured using a passing accuracy test. The results indicated that: (1) passing training using a takraw hoop had a significant effect on the passing accuracy of adolescent sepak takraw athletes in Gorontalo Regency; (2) paired passing training had a significant effect on the passing accuracy of adolescent sepak takraw athletes in Gorontalo Regency, and (3) passing  training using a takraw hoop was more effective than paired passing training in improving the passing accuracy of adolescent sepak takraw athletes in Gorontalo Regency.

Abstract

This cross-sectional descriptive quantitative study aims to evaluate the physical condition and physiological responses of 15 PERTINA boxing athletes from Gorontalo Province (aged 17–23 years) ahead of the National Martial Arts Games (PON), using a total sampling technique. The physical test results showed an average of: 42.93 push-ups, 46.47 sit-ups, 54.47 cm vertical jump, 4.86 seconds 30-meter sprint, 11.24 seconds Illinois Agility Test, 32.07 cm flexibility, and VO₂Max 48.93 ml/kg/minute. Post-match simulation, physiological responses showed an increase in average pulse rate (71.73 to 163.13 beats/minute) and systolic blood pressure (117.33 to 138.27 mmHg). A Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE) value of 16 indicates that the activity was perceived as strenuous by the athletes. In conclusion, the physical condition of Gorontalo Province's boxing athletes has supported their preparation for the National Martial Arts Games, but still requires intensive strengthening in terms of endurance, recovery, and tolerance for high-intensity activities.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the increase in VO₂Max in boxing students through a combination of double skipping and box jump training. The study used a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study subjects were 15 boxing students specializing in the Sports Coaching Education Study Program, consisting of 9 males and 6 females, aged 18–22. Treatment consisted of a combination of double skipping and box jump training for 6 weeks, performed 3 times per week. VO₂Max was measured using the Multistage Fitness Test/Bleep Test before and after treatment. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, percentage increase, and effect size. The results showed an average increase in VO₂Max from 36.47 to 39.60 mL/kg/min, representing an increase of 3.13 mL/kg/min, or 8.61%. The Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference with p < 0.001 and an effect size of 0.88. Thus, the combination of double skipping and box jump training effectively increased boxing students' VO₂Max.

Abstract

This study aims to determine: (1) whether there is an effect of the extensive interval training model on the improvement of VO₂max in track athletes at PELATKOT Gorontalo, (2) whether there is an effect of the fartlek training model on the improvement of VO₂max in track athletes at PELATKOT Gorontalo, and (3) which training model is more effective in improving VO₂max between the extensive interval training model and the fartlek training model. This research employed a comparative design, as it compares one variable with another. The population of this study consisted of 13 track athletes at PELATKOT Gorontalo. The sampling technique used was total sampling; therefore, all members of the population were included as the research sample. The sample was divided into two groups: 7 athletes in the extensive interval training group and 6 athletes in the fartlek training group. Data collection was conducted using the 15-minute Balke test. The data analysis technique used was the t-test, processed with SPSS for Windows Version 25.The results of the study indicate that: (1) the improvement of VO₂max in track athletes using the extensive interval training model resulted in a mean value of 43.11 with a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 < α 0.05; (2) the improvement of VO₂max using the fartlek training model resulted in a mean value of 43.78 with a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 < α 0.05; and (3) there is no significant difference between the extensive interval training model and the fartlek training model in improving VO₂max, as indicated by the significance value (2-tailed) of 0.806 > α 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that Ha is rejected and Ho is accepted, indicating that the hypothesis is not supported.
