Abstract

Abstract. Industrial revolution 4.0 era which is also called as disruptive era gives many benefits for several aspects especially in education. It becomes easier for the teacher to use any kinds of media for teaching English and for the students to find English materials by themselves. The recent students of English Education Department IAIN Kudus belong to generation Z students. As generation Z students who live in 4.0 era, they are able to access many kinds of information or knowledge and improve their English competences from any resources easily. This paper aims to identify the way of the generation Z learn English, the difficulties encountered by them in learning English, and the solutions or suggestions to overcome the difficulties. This study employed mixed methods research. In conducting this research, the researchers used observation, open-ended questionnaire and documentation to collect the data. The participants were 39 students of English Education Department at IAIN Kudus. The results showed that 60% students use gadgets to study English, 15% use books, and 25% use both of them. Meanwhile, 50% students have difficulties in speaking, 10% in listening, 6% in reading, 17% in writing, and 17% in those four competences. Some solutions or suggestions were revealed to resolve the difficulties. The solutions were extended for each language competence.Keywords: English Competence, Generation Z, IAIN KudusAbstrak. Era revolusi industri 4.0, yang juga dikenal dengan era disruptif, memberikan banyak keuntungan dalam berbagai aspek khususnya dalam pendidikan. Hal ini akan memudahkan guru untuk menggunakan berbagai jenis media untuk mengajar Bahasa Inggris dan juga bagi mahasiswa untuk mencari materi Bahasa Inggris sendiri. Mahasiswa jurusan Bahasa Inggris IAIN Kudus juga termasuk mahasiswa generasi Z. Sebagai mahasiswa generasi Z yang tinggal di era 4.0, mereka mampu mengakses berbagai macam informasi atau pengetahuan untuk memperbaiki kompetensi mereka dari berbagai sumber dengan mudah. Paper ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi cara bagaimana generasi Z belajar Bahasa Inggris, kesulitan-kesulitan yang dihadapi mereka, dan solusi atau saran untuk menghadapi kesulitan tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode campuran (mixed methods), dan dalam mengumpulkan data penulis menggunakan teknik observasi, kuesioner, dan dokumentasi. Peserta penelitian ini adalah 39 mahasiswa jurusan Bahasa Inggris IAIN Kudus. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa cara mereka belajar 60 % menggunakan gawai, 15 % menggunakan buku, dan 25 % menggunakan dua-duanya. 50 % mahasiswa mengalami kesulitan dalam berbicara Bahasa Inggris, 10 % mendengarkan, 6 % dalam membaca, 17 % dalam menulis, dan 17 % mengalami kesulitan dalam keempat-empatnya. Beberapa solusi ditawarkan untuk menghadapi masalah tersebut, terutama di masing-masing keahlian berbahasa.Kata kunci: kompetensi bahasa Inggris, generasi Z, IAIN Kudus

Abstract

Most children like and enjoy singing songs. It can be used as one of materials for foreign language learning. Using nursery rhymes in the classroom can be a great break from following a set curriculum. This study aims to know the way to acquaint English to young learners through nursery rhymes, to identify the criteria of nursery rhymes that suits on the students, and to know the strengths and challenges in acquainting English to young learners through nursery rhymes at Playgroup. Qualitative research was employed to conduct this study. To collect the data, some techniques were carried out namely observation, interview, and documentation. The results revealed that the acquaintance of young learners English through nursery rhymes considers the content; students’ readiness, and class atmosphere, the nursery rhymes must teach the character education; the strengths in acquainting English to young learners through nursery rhymes at Halimatus Sa’diyah playgroup are the commitment among the manager/organizers, teachers and parents and the high awareness that English is important. And, the challenges are low teacher’s pedagogical competency, facilities, curriculum/material, and non-English school or living environment.

Abstract

The present study attempts to explore the motivational beliefs in learning English among non-English major students from two higher educations in Indonesia. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through close-ended questionnaires. The questionnaires were then distributed to the 100 students. The collected data were then analyzed quantitatively to find out the percentage of motivational beliefs. Further, we interpreted the motivations mostly preferred the non-English major students. The results reveal that from 15 items of motivational beliefs in learning English, the most dominant motivations of learning English preferred by the non-English major students include becoming a knowledgeable person (95%), understanding English books, movies, music (95%), transferring knowledge to others (81%), becoming an educated person (81%), appreciating the ways of life of native English speakers (79%), discussing interesting topics in English with the people from other countries (77%), keeping in touch with foreign people (60%), getting appreciation from others (60 %). On the other hand, other items of motivational beliefs may not become their main motivational beliefs in learning English. This study presents an implication that students from non-English majors need to increase their self-awareness in learning English, particularly both in spoken and written ways to enhance their life.

Abstract

Penulisan artikel ini dilatarbelakangi oleh semakin berkembangnya teknologi dan informasi yang meningkat dengan bebas. Atas dasar tersebut, penulis memandang bahwa perkembangan  teknologi ini harus dapat dimanfaatkan dengan sebaik-baiknya oleh guru dalam dunia pendidikan.  Penelitian  ini, berbentuk penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan. Penulis telah mengamati beberapa inovasi dalam pengajaran Praktik Bahasa Inggris yang diterapkan oleh beberapa dosen Bahasa Inggris di STAIN Kudus. Berbagai macam metode telah  diterapkan oleh Dosen Bahasa Inggris di STAIN Kudus dalam mengajar Praktikum Bahasa Inggris. Hal ini dipengaruhi oleh berbedanya daya kreativitas masing- masing dosen, sarana atau fasilitas yang dimiliki oleh dosen atau kampus, dan yang lebih utama ialah berbedanya kompetensi dari mahasiswa tiap-tiap kelas,  prodi atau jurusan.  Sehingga metode yang dipilih pun harus disesuaikan dengan kemampuan dari  mahasiswa masing-masing kelas/prodi/jurusan.   Inovasi pembelajaran ini dimaksudkan untuk mewujudkan pembelajaran yang aktif, efektif, menyenangkan,  dan menarik bagi mahasiswa. Serta yang terpenting yaitu pesan yang ingin disampaikan dosen kepada mahasiswa dapat diterima dan dipahami.Kata kunci: inovasi, praktikum, bahasa InggrisLEARNING INNOVATION IN ENGLISH PRACTICUM CLASS IN STAIN KUDUS. The writing of this article was effected by the development of technology and information  which increasing freely. On the basis of these, the author looked at that development of this technology should be utilized with the best by the teachers in the world of education. This study  is Qualitative  research by using analytical descriptive approach. The author  had observed some innovation  in the teaching of English Practicum which has been applied by English lecturers of STAIN Kudus. A variety of methods have been applied by them in teaching English Practicum. It is influenced by a different power of creativity each lecturer, means or facilities owned by a lecturer or campus, and the more mainstream is the different competencies of students  for each class, study program  or majors. Therefore, the selected method must be adjusted with the ability of the students of each class/ study program/majors. The learning innovation  is intended to embody the learning that is active, effective, fun, and interesting for the students. Furthermore, the most important  thing is the message that will be delivered by lecturers to students can be accepted and understood.Keywords: innovation, practicum, English

Abstract

Religious Moderation has been an important program in Islamic Higher Education since 2019. This program contributes to the spread of moderate religious views among Islamic higher education stakeholders. This research is qualitative research conducted at UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta. The results of this study indicate that there were variations of religious identities in responding to religious moderation as can be seen from various extra-campus affiliated with mass organizations. Some extra-campus organizations were not inclined toward religious moderation values. These religious identities can be seen from the extra-campus at UIN Surakarta, including IMAMTA, HMI, PMII, IMM, and KAMMI which have various perspectives, perceptions, receptions, acceptance patterns, interactions, and relations of each mass organization concerning religious moderation. This study indicated that religious identities that have metamorphosed into extra-campus organizations have an opportunity to be explored to propose a more nuanced religious moderation at the university level.

Abstract

The transition to online learning has significantly reshaped the educational experience, offering opportunities and obstacles, particularly for international students. This study explored the perspectives of Thai students in an Indonesian Islamic university, examining the challenges they faced and the potential benefits of online learning. Three international students volunteered to participate in this study.  Data was collected through qualitative interviews conducted via Google Forms and WhatsApp. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. The findings indicated that students encountered several key challenges, including language barriers, technological accessibility, internet connectivity issues, and motivation levels. Despite these challenges, online learning offers benefits such as flexible learning schedules and broader access to educational resources. This study highlights the need for universities to implement targeted strategies to enhance student engagement and academic achievement. Recommendations include the development of policies that support digital infrastructure, tailored learning methodologies, and initiatives to maintain student motivation. Further research is encouraged to explore practical pedagogical approaches and institutional frameworks that can optimize online learning experiences for international students. This study impacts universities by improving digital infrastructure, enhancing learning strategies, boosting student motivation, and optimizing online education for international students.
