Abstract

Abstract: THE PARENTS' ROLE IN EDUCATING CHILDREN SINCEINFANCY IN THE FAMILY. The child is a boon and mandate entrusted byGod to His servant who will be asked for the responsibility in the Hereafter.The obligation as a parent is to provide education to children starting froman early age. The development of early childhood is strongly bound by theenvironment and the family. This paper aims to describe the role of parentsto the education of children. The study in this paper uses literature study orlibrary research method. The result of this study is that family is the firstplace where children get education. Children's character and personality isformed first in the family. Parents should have a concept or provision ineducating their children that includes moral or character education,science education, religious education, be fair to the children, and giveattention and affection to children. Parents become role models for theirchildren. Therefore, the role of parents is very important in thedevelopment and formation of children's character from an early age.Anak merupakan anugerah dan sekaligus amanah yangdititipkan oleh Allah kepada hambaNya yang akan dimintaipertanggungjawabannya di akhirat kelak. Kewajiban sebagai orang tuaadalah memberikan pendidikan kepada anak yang dimulai sejak usiadini. Perkembangan pada anak usia dini sangat terikat oleh lingkungandan keluarganya. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk menjabarkan peran orangtua terhadap pendidikan anak. Kajian dalam tulisan ini menggunakanmetode studi kepustakaan (library research). Hasil dari kajian ini yaitubahwa keluarga merupakan tempat pertama dimana anak memperolehpendidikan. Karakter dan kepribadian anak dibentuk pertama kali didalam keluarga. Orang tua hendaknya memiliki konsep atau ketentuandalam mendidik anaknya yang meliputi pendidikan moral atau karakter,pendidikan ilmu pengetahuan, pendidikan ilmu agama, bersikap adilterhadap anak, serta memberikan perhatian dan kasih sayang kepadaanak. Orang tua menjadi suri tauladan bagi anak-anaknya. Oleh sebab ituperan orang tua sangatlah penting dalam perkembangan danpembentukan karakter anak sejak dini.

Abstract

This study explores how multicultural values are visually represented in Indonesian English as a Foreign Language (EFL) textbook. The findings reveal that textbook illustrations depict diverse students interacting harmoniously across ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds. Key images illustrate inclusive educational environments, interfaith friendships, and culturally respectful behavior. These depictions support students’ language development and shape civic values and intercultural competence. Drawing from theories of multicultural and culturally responsive pedagogy, the study finds that textbooks function as ideological tools that internalize social ethics aligned with Pancasila and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. This research highlights the importance of visual literacy in language learning and recommends a stronger integration of intercultural values through multimodal and digital representations.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic transformed undergraduate ELT research practices in higher education. This study investigates shifts in research topics, methodologies, technology use, and ethical considerations in undergraduate ELT research at an Islamic university in Indonesia during and beyond the pandemic. This study employed a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through open-ended online questionnaires involving seven student researchers and five lecturer supervisors, as well as document analysis of 41 undergraduate thesis abstracts selected purposively from 2020–2022, and were analyzed using thematic analysis following Braun and Clarke’s six-phase framework. Findings indicate a notable rise in discourse-based and technology-mediated research topics, with qualitative approaches dominating methodological choices.  Digital tools, such as online questionnaires, virtual interviews, and electronic academic databases, played a central role in data collection. However, students also encountered challenges, including access constraints, ethical requirements, and technological and communication limitations. The study highlights how crisis-driven adaptations, particularly digital research literacy, flexible methodological decision-making, and strengthened ethical awareness, constitute valuable lessons for sustaining and improving undergraduate research supervision in post-pandemic contexts. Recommendations are offered for integrating blended research training, ethical digital research competencies, and culturally grounded supervision strategies within Islamic higher-education ELT programs.

Abstract

Integrating mobile technology into English Language Teaching (ELT) has created new opportunities for enhancing students’ language proficiency through flexible and accessible application. This study aimed to investigate the extent to which the EnglishScore application is beneficial for improving English language skills, the challenges users encounter while using the application, and its potential future applications in developing English language skills. Based on a qualitative design, data were gathered through observations and a questionnaire. The participants were EFL students who had used EnglishScore as a part of their learning activities at an Islamic university in Indonesia. The findings revealed that students view the application as helpful for improving their language skills, especially in reading comprehension, grammar, and listening. Students also reported increased confidence and familiarity with English tests after using the app. Despite minor challenges such as unfamiliar vocabulary and internet connection issues, the overall responses indicate a positive attitude toward mobile-based assessment tools. This study implies that mobile apps like EnglishScore can provide a supportive complement to formal language instruction and promote learner autonomy in higher education contexts. Future studies are recommended to utilize mixed-method approaches to examine the long-term effects of such tools on varying levels of English proficiency.

Abstract

The transition to online learning has significantly reshaped the educational experience, offering opportunities and obstacles, particularly for international students. This study explored the perspectives of Thai students in an Indonesian Islamic university, examining the challenges they faced and the potential benefits of online learning. Three international students volunteered to participate in this study.  Data was collected through qualitative interviews conducted via Google Forms and WhatsApp. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. The findings indicated that students encountered several key challenges, including language barriers, technological accessibility, internet connectivity issues, and motivation levels. Despite these challenges, online learning offers benefits such as flexible learning schedules and broader access to educational resources. This study highlights the need for universities to implement targeted strategies to enhance student engagement and academic achievement. Recommendations include the development of policies that support digital infrastructure, tailored learning methodologies, and initiatives to maintain student motivation. Further research is encouraged to explore practical pedagogical approaches and institutional frameworks that can optimize online learning experiences for international students. This study impacts universities by improving digital infrastructure, enhancing learning strategies, boosting student motivation, and optimizing online education for international students.

Abstract

Writing effective thesis abstracts remains a significant challenge for many EFL undergraduates, particularly in organizing rhetorical moves and selecting appropriate verb tenses. This study investigates the interaction between rhetorical move structures and tense usage in undergraduate thesis abstracts in English Education Department, offering a combined genre- and language-focused perspective that remains underexplored in EFL genre research. Using a qualitative Genre-Based Discourse Analysis approach, 41 abstracts from an Indonesian Islamic university were analyzed, with questionnaire data from 7 alumni, to identify common writing difficulties. The analysis applied a five-move model adapted from Swales and Feak, Koopman, and Weissberg and Buker, as well as frameworks for tense distribution. The findings show that although most abstracts successfully include the Aim (92.68%), Method (100%), and Results (97.56%) moves, only 36.59% present a complete five-move structure due to the limited presence of the Conclusion move. Tense analysis reveals an overuse of the present tense across moves, including in the Method (73.2%) and Results (80%) sections, where the past tense is typically required. Questionnaire responses indicate persistent difficulties related to understanding move functions, selecting appropriate tenses, and applying academic writing conventions without explicit guidance. Overall, the study demonstrates partial adherence to conventional abstract-writing practices and highlights the importance of explicit instruction in rhetorical organization and tense selection in EFL academic writing courses to support students’ development as academic writers.

Abstract

Penulisan artikel ini dilatarbelakangi oleh semakin berkembangnya teknologi dan informasi yang meningkat dengan bebas. Atas dasar tersebut, penulis memandang bahwa perkembangan  teknologi ini harus dapat dimanfaatkan dengan sebaik-baiknya oleh guru dalam dunia pendidikan.  Penelitian  ini, berbentuk penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan. Penulis telah mengamati beberapa inovasi dalam pengajaran Praktik Bahasa Inggris yang diterapkan oleh beberapa dosen Bahasa Inggris di STAIN Kudus. Berbagai macam metode telah  diterapkan oleh Dosen Bahasa Inggris di STAIN Kudus dalam mengajar Praktikum Bahasa Inggris. Hal ini dipengaruhi oleh berbedanya daya kreativitas masing- masing dosen, sarana atau fasilitas yang dimiliki oleh dosen atau kampus, dan yang lebih utama ialah berbedanya kompetensi dari mahasiswa tiap-tiap kelas,  prodi atau jurusan.  Sehingga metode yang dipilih pun harus disesuaikan dengan kemampuan dari  mahasiswa masing-masing kelas/prodi/jurusan.   Inovasi pembelajaran ini dimaksudkan untuk mewujudkan pembelajaran yang aktif, efektif, menyenangkan,  dan menarik bagi mahasiswa. Serta yang terpenting yaitu pesan yang ingin disampaikan dosen kepada mahasiswa dapat diterima dan dipahami.Kata kunci: inovasi, praktikum, bahasa InggrisLEARNING INNOVATION IN ENGLISH PRACTICUM CLASS IN STAIN KUDUS. The writing of this article was effected by the development of technology and information  which increasing freely. On the basis of these, the author looked at that development of this technology should be utilized with the best by the teachers in the world of education. This study  is Qualitative  research by using analytical descriptive approach. The author  had observed some innovation  in the teaching of English Practicum which has been applied by English lecturers of STAIN Kudus. A variety of methods have been applied by them in teaching English Practicum. It is influenced by a different power of creativity each lecturer, means or facilities owned by a lecturer or campus, and the more mainstream is the different competencies of students  for each class, study program  or majors. Therefore, the selected method must be adjusted with the ability of the students of each class/ study program/majors. The learning innovation  is intended to embody the learning that is active, effective, fun, and interesting for the students. Furthermore, the most important  thing is the message that will be delivered by lecturers to students can be accepted and understood.Keywords: innovation, practicum, English
