Abstract

Spiritual interventions have received growing attention in recent years as they are evident to reduce psychotic symptoms significantly in patients with mental disorders. However, some nurses neglect patients' spiritual needs as it is not their primary responsibility. In other research, mental health nurses felt uncertain about spiritual issues and anxious to distinguish between spiritual needs and mental illness symptoms. Their concern about spiritual care being inappropriate within their practice setting and lack of knowledge also influence the willingness of nurses to provide spiritual care. This study aimed to explore nurses' experiences of providing spiritual interventions for patients with schizophrenia in Prof. Dr. Soerodjo's psychiatric hospital in Magelang, Indonesia. A descriptive qualitative study with a phenomenological approach was conducted among seven participants who were purposively recruited from different hospital wards. The researchers conducted semi-structured focused-group discussions (FGDs) and employed theoretical triangulation to improve the quality of data analysis. A thematic analysis was used to obtain rich, detailed, complex data reports. The results showed two major themes: (1) nurses' experiences providing spiritual interventions and (2) the importance of spiritual interventions for patients with schizophrenia. Spiritual interventions were crucial to patient care and were implemented in all hospital wards. These interventions varied in form, and their implementation merely relied on nurses' and patients' commitment and motivation. Some barriers to implementing spiritual interventions were reported, including stigma, lack of commitment, and suboptimal fulfillment of spiritual needs for patients other than Moslem. Implementation of spiritual interventions is best based on the prepared modules, which contain spiritual assessment tools, material, and guidelines for fulfilling the spiritual needs and the standard of spiritual intervention that will be provided. Nurses require strong commitment and motivation to carry out spiritual intervention to have a satisfying impact in the form of a decrease in violent behavior, confinement, length of stay, runaway rate, increased communication skills, self-control, and improved appearance. Schizophrenic patients are expected to continue their spiritual activities until they are ready to return to the community. Innovations and institutional support are required to help achieve the goals of spiritual interventions.

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an incurable global health problem, with a growing prevalence, particularly in Asia. It is estimated that by 2030, 2.16 million individuals will require hemodialysis, a 233% increase from previous years. Self-care practices are an important aspect in improving health, preventing complications, and supporting daily functioning and well-being of patients. Therefore, a valid and reliable instrument is needed to measure the level of self-care in patients with chronic diseases. Objective to identify a validated self-care assessment instrument for hemodialysis patients. The methodological approach refers to Arksey and O'Malley, with article searches through ScienceDirect, PubMed, and EBSCO databases using relevant keywords, focusing on full-text, English-language, open access, and published in the last 18 years published between 2007 and 2024, keywords included "self-care", "hemodialysis", "instrument", "scale", and "chronic kidney disease". Of the 1,327 articles screened, the investigation was executed by accumulating empirical data from the preceding 18 years, aggregating 22 scholarly articles, among these, 9 articles satisfied the inclusion criteria, concentrating on selected studies that utilized quantitative methodologies and on self-care instruments for hemodialysis patients. The article evaluation was conducted systematically employing the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) as a framework, succeeded by assessment based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. This study identified nine self-care instruments for hemodialysis patients with varying psychometric properties. Most of the instruments showed good reliability and validity, but still require improvement in criterion validation, sensitivity, and responsiveness. Future research should focus on the development of concise yet comprehensive instruments, cross-cultural adaptation, and full psychometric evaluation to ensure accurate measurement of self-care, thereby improving patients' health outcomes and quality of life.

Abstract

A significant public health problem is depression in adolescents. Depression is a mental disorder characterized by negative emotions and feelings of worthlessness. With the advancement of technology, interventions for adolescents experiencing depression can be delivered digitally through websites, apps, and other online platforms. Objective to review digital interventions used to address depression in adolescentsT. his article uses five data bases, namely ProQuest, Scopus, Scient Direct, EBSCOhost and PubMed . Article search from 21,554 articles which were then extracted to get 8 articles, peer review, full text and the last 5 years (2020-2025). Of the eight interventions analyzed, five were digital CBT-based interventions, two were psychoeducation and social support-based interventions, and one was a remote support therapy-based intervention. Apps enable a more cost-effective, more accessible, and more flexible approach compared to conventional methods. Digital interventions based on CBT, psychoeducation, and distance psychotherapy are the main approaches in treating adolescent depression.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Skizofrenia, Ansietas, Kontrol Diri, Perilaku Kekerasan, Terapi Relaksasi Otot Progresif Abstract Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder characterized by disturbances in thought patterns, emotions, and behavior. One of the symptoms that often appears is anxiety, which if left untreated can increase the risk of violent behavior. Progressive muscle relaxation therapy is an effective non-pharmacological intervention to reduce anxiety and increase self-control. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of progressive muscle relaxation therapy on reducing anxiety and increasing self-control behavior in schizophrenia patients at risk of violence. This study used a case study design with a quasi-experimental approach (one group pre-test and post-test). Three schizophrenia patients at Dr. Amino Gondohutomo Mental Hospital Semarang who experienced anxiety and were at risk of violence were given progressive muscle relaxation therapy intervention for three consecutive days, each session for 10–15 minutes. The GAD-7 instrument was used to measure anxiety and SLKI to assess self-control. The results showed that all patients experienced a decrease in GAD-7 scores from moderate to mild anxiety levels, with an average decrease of 54.2%. An increase in self-control scores also occurred in all three patients, with an average increase of 25.6%. Subjectively, patients reported feeling calmer, improved sleep quality, and increased ability to control emotions. Progressive muscle relaxation therapy has been shown to be effective in reducing anxiety and increasing self-control in schizophrenia patients at risk for violent behavior, and is worthy of being a routine intervention in psychiatric nursing practice. Abstract

Health students often face academic pressure and interpersonal conflicts that can affect their emotional regulation, thereby increasing the risk of self-harm behavior. This study aimed to explore the emotional experiences of health students who have engaged in self-harm through a phenomenological approach. A total of 8 participants (aged 18-25 years) who had engaged in self-harm and came from various health study programs participated in in-depth interviews lasting 45-70 minutes. The results of the study reveal three main themes: i) psychosocial stress as a trigger for negative emotions, ii) the role of social support in the recovery process, and iii) coping mechanisms and the need for professional intervention. These findings reveal emotional dynamics that have not been widely explored in the context of health students in Indonesia, particularly how self-harm is perceived as a strategy to control excessive emotional intensity. This study makes a new contribution by highlighting the need for interventions based on emotional regulation and increased social support that are appropriate to the subjective experiences of health students. Interventions based on empathy and psychological approaches that are more sensitive to the cultural context of the campus are the main recommendations.
