Abstract

Background: Patients with violent behaviors have the potential to harm themselves, others, and their environment. The management of patients with violent behavior needs to consider various aspects, one of which is patients’ spiritual aspect. Combining a spiritual therapy of listening to Qur’an recitation, acupressure, and using a new innovation of a calming bed during the intervention is expected to increase the effect of relaxation and patients’ comfort to optimize the intervention outcomes, namely to reduce aggression level in patients with violent behaviors. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of the combined intervention of listening to Qur’an recitation (murottal), acupressure, and using a calming bed on reducing the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale - Excited Component (PANSS-EC) scores in patients with violent behaviors. Methods: This study used a pre-post test quasi-experimental design without a control group. A total of 50 respondents who agreed to participate in the therapy entirely were randomly recruited. The therapy was given four times with a duration of 30 minutes each. The paired t-test was performed to find out the effect of the intervention. Results: The results showed a significant effect of the intervention on reducing the PANSS-EC score among patients with violent behavior (p=0.000). Conclusion: The combination intervention of listening to Qur’an recitation, acupressure, and use of calming beds can reduce symptoms of violent behaviors by decreasing the PANSS-EC scores. This study suggests using spiritual intervention to help patients with violent behaviors reduce their aggression. Abstrak: Latar Belakang: Pasien dengan perilaku kekerasan berpotensi membahayakan diri sendiri, orang lain, dan lingkungannya. Abstract

Emotional control in schizophrenia patients is closely related to the patient's ability to control his negative emotions. Negative emotions in question are feelings of anger, fear and sadness. In the United States about 1.5 million crime cases occur each year. These events are mostly carried out by schizophrenic patients due to their inability to control negative emotions. The purpose of this article is to describe the methodological analysis used to clarify the concept of emotional control in schizophrenia patients. The concept analysis procedure from Walker and Avant is used in this paper. Literature review is carried out using online databases such as Google Scholar, Science Direct, and EBSCHO with keywords of concept analysis, emotional control, and schizophrenia. Antecedents of the concept of emotional control in schizophrenia: self control, mental boundaries, and self determination. Abstract

Families of patients with mental disorders frequently experience intolerance of uncertainty due to prolonged treatment, high caregiving burdens, and unpredictable patient behaviors. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of Happy Spiritual Intervention on the intolerance to uncertainty among families of patients with mental disorders. A pre-post quasi-experimental study with a control group was carried out among families of patients undergoing treatment at Dr. Amino Gondohutomo Psychiatric Hospital in Semarang. Simple random sampling was applied to recruit a total of 50 respondents who were aged 18 years or older and had been cohabiting with the patients for more than five months. The intervention group received six 45-minute therapy sessions, while the control group received standard care. This study utilized the Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale as research instrument. Data were collected using Google Forms, and subsequent analysis using a t-test was performed. The results revealed a significant difference in intolerance of uncertainty among families of patients with mental disorders after the intervention in both the intervention and control groups, with an effect size of 3.026 and a p-value of 0.000. This suggests that Happy Spiritual intervention effectively reduces the intolerance of uncertainty among families of patients with mental disorders.

Abstract

Background: Schizophrenia is a major mental health problem in the world that requires more attention. Patients with schizophrenia are at higher risk of poor psychological well-being and violent behaviors as expression of anger and delusion. Mindfulness  alone is considered less efficient so it needs to be developed with technology, as such further technological development regarding its application is needed. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effects of spiritual mindfulness intervention through the SI-DEPAPU application on the ability to control anger and perform activities of daily living (ADL) among schizophrenic patients. Methods: This study used a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design with a control group. The samples were 60 schizophrenic patients randomly selected and divided into two groups. The intervention group was given four sessions of mindfulness in two weeks through the SI-DEPAPU application. This study used the anger management ability questionnaire developed by Sadipun et al. (2018) to measure the patient's ability to control anger and the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA) questionnaire by Wilkinson (2016) to measure ADL. The instrument was tested for its validity among 20 schizophrenic patients with a risk of violent behaviors, and the results were valid and reliable in which the r-count > r-table (0.444), the control group was given standard hospital care. Results: The results showed that the patient’s ability to control anger and perform ADL increased with p=0.000 and p=0.005,  (p = 0,000 < 0,05) respectively. The intervention group had a higher mean score than the control group. Conclusion: Mindfulness spiritual interventions through the SI-DEPAPU application could help schizophrenic patients control anger and increase their ADL.
