Abstract

Scientific writing plays a crucial role in determining the quality of students and universities. So far, the ability of students to establish scientific works is varied. Some students can produce scientific work in an APIK (Asli, Penting, Ilmiah, Konsisten) way which means Original, Important, Scientific, and Consistent), as well as in a "SMART" (Specific, Manageable, Acceptable, Realistic and Time-bound) way. However, some of them also encounter difficulties so they need assistance on a collaborative based scientific writing through Online Research Clinic (ORC) approach. Collaborative-based mentoring can build collegiality and collaboration among tutors, students, and UPBJJ-UT managers. Effective mentoring requires an ORC approach. An online research clinic is a place designed to help students who have difficulty writing scientific papers through clinical methods, starting from problem identification, diagnosis, prognosis, synthesis, treatment, reflection using internet / online network media such as website, email, WhatsApp, telegram, Google classroom, webinars, zoom and so on. Online Research Clinic is a solution to solve students' difficulties in writing scientific papers. The existence of ORC is an innovation to create independent learning in the digital era due to its flexibility and easy accessibility at all times both face-to-face and online. Besides, it is also used by tutors and managers to collaborate in providing consultation services to students. This study aims to analyze and synthesize the management model of scientific work mentoring with a proper online clinical research approach for UPJJB-UT Semarang students. The research method uses Research and Development. Data obtained from the results of scientific work mentoring, needs analysis, testing, and model validation. Data collection techniques use questionnaires, interviews, documentation studies, observation, and FGD. The validity test uses model validation from experts and practitioners. The qualitative descriptive analysis uses data displays, data reduction, data verification, and conclusion. The results of the study conclude that the mentoring management model implemented so far was categorized as sufficient, still theoretical, and not practical yet. ORC assistance model is very important and needed because it is practical, effective, and efficient. The ORC mentoring model is very feasible so that it can be implemented to improve the quality of students in producing scientific papers for fulfilling assignments, requirements for completing study program, and scientific publications.

Abstract

Students' low interest and learning achievement towards the Local Sound Art is the main problem in this study. As a step to improve learning, classroom action research was conducted. The purpose of this study is to describe students' interest and achievement in Local Sound Art after applying Interactive plywood gamelan based on PowerPoint to elementary school students. The research applied classroom action research methods. The steps taken are by carrying out the learning cycle I to cycle II. Students learn each material interactively in PowerPoint until they arrive at the gamelan playing menu. The menu will be connected to plywood gamelan, which guides students to play the notes in the macapat and dolanan songs independently. The PowerPoint-based plywood gamelan media is proven to increase students' interest and learning achievement. Data from research used observational data and assessment data of song material. The student activity was increased from the early stages. The number of good categories was eight students (40%) and fewer categories 12 students (60%). This research concludes that PowerPoint-based interactive plywood gamelan is effective in learning local sound arts in elementary schools because students' interests and learning outcomes are on average completed.

Abstract

Pengabdian ini diadakan dengan tujuan untuk mengajarkan bahasa Inggris speaking kepada guru-guru SMA Sint Louis Semarang. Pengabdian ini berbentuk pelatihan yang bertujuan untuk membekali para guru di SMA Sint Louis Semarang agar dapat memiliki keterampilan berbicara, berkomunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris dengan baik dan benar, dan pelatihan ini diperuntukkan bagi seluruh guru, baik guru bahasa Inggris maupun guru bidang studi lain. Metode pembelajaran yang digunakan dalam pelatihan ini adalah Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). Metode tersebut mendorong para peserta pelatihan untuk lebih mengembangkan kemampuan dirinya, memahami tentang bahasa Inggris dan cara berkomunikasi, sehingga pada individu terjadi perubahan sikap dan memiliki kecakapan dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris. Teknik yang digunakan dalam pelatihan ini yaitu teknik deskriptif dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Sampel berjumlah 25 orang peserta, berasal dari latar belakang bidang ilmu yang berbeda. Pelatihan dilakukan selama 10 kali dengan durasi waktu selama 90 menit setiap sesinya. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan kemampuan peserta dalam berkomunikasi menggunakan Bahasa Inggris. Peserta mampu menuangkan idenya dan mengungkapkannya dalam percakapan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis secara deskriptif juga diperoleh adanya peningkatan minat dan motivasi peserta. Peserta sudah mulai memiliki rasa percaya diri saat melakukan percakapan (conversation) dengan teman ataupun dengan tim abdimas.

Abstract

Learning grammar is complicated, since it must understand the structure or formula in it, then there are many rules and patterns interrelated. The Simple Present Tense (SPT) is part of the grammar taught in junior high school. Learning the SPT for most students is very confusing, because the subject is considered quite difficult. And to minimize those difficulties faced by students in learning SPT, so the teachers try to make students understand the material by trying to make breakthroughs through the use of innovative learning media. Start from there, many creations related to the use of technology were created. Learning by involving technological sophistication more or less has a positive influence on students, since in addition to make it easier for them to learn, the teacher will also focus more on the material conveyed. This study aims to describe the implementation of interactive multimedia and to describe the success rate of grade VIII students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta in learning SPT. This study used a quantitative research approach, and it was a quasi-experiment. The experimental design was randomized pre-test and post-test comparison group design. The sample was class VIII PK-1 as the experimental group 1, while class VIII PK-2 as the experimental group 2. The sample was taken by using cluster random sampling technique. With this interactive multimedia learning method, it is expected that the participants’ ability in mastering English grammar can be improved.

Abstract

Sebagai tenaga pendidik, guru perlu mendapat pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, karena dengan memiliki kemampuan tersebut maka guru akan lebih percaya diri serta memiliki keyakinan lebih dalam berinteraksi dengan native speaker. Seiring dengan era globalisasi yang menuntut setiap guru harus mampu berinteraksi dengan dunia internasional, maka kebutuhan akan pembelajaran TOEFL menjadi semakin meningkat. Sehubungan dengan hal tersebut maka pelatihan bahasa Inggris berbasis TOEFL perlu diberikan dikarenakan para guru kebanyakan belum memiliki pengetahuan dan pemahaman yang memadai tentang TOEFL. Tujuan dari kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini adalah untuk memberikan pelatihan peningkatan kemampuan bahasa Inggris TOEFL kepada para guru SMP Yoannes XXIII Semarang. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, maka metode pelaksanaannya adalah melalui pelatihan intensif dengan perpaduan teori dan praktik serta diskusi. Hasil pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan pengetahan/ kompetensi dalam kegiatan tersebut, sehingga dapat dikatakan bahwa pelatihan ini cukup mencapai sasaran yang diharapkan. Selain untuk meningkatkan kemampuan penguasaan bahasa Inggris bagi guru, peserta juga mendapatkan manfaat lainnya yaitu tentang landasan teori, prinsip, serta strategi tes TOEFL, sehingga hal tersebut lebih membekali para guru dalam menyiasati soal-soal ataupun materi bahasa Inggris berbasis TOEFL. Lebih dari itu, hasil kegiatan ini dapat dijadikan sebagai bahan pertimbangan untuk mengambil kebijakan yang terkait dengan peningkatan kualitas guru di sekolah masing-masing.

Abstract

Multimedia is a new concept and technology in the field of information technology where text, images, sound, animation, and video are combined on a computer to be stored, processed, and presented both linearly and interactively. This study aims to describe the implementation of interactive multimedia and to describe the success rate of class VIII in learning the Simple Present Tense. This study used a quantitative research approach, with a quasi-experimental type, and a randomized pretest-posttest comparison group design. The sample was class VIII-PK 1 as the experimental group 1, class VIII-PK 2 as the experimental group 2, using cluster random sampling technique. With this interactive multimedia learning method, it was hoped that the students’ ability in mastering English grammar could increase.

Abstract

Students’ well-being has become a recent concern in education. Many related literatures mentioned that well-being is one of the significant factors in determining students’ success. However, many distance education students experience loneliness and alienation because of lacking social presence and social connectedness. Those problems resulted in a low level of well-being. To deal with the problem, the department carries out Caring and Sharing regularly. The program includes an e-lecture, webinar, greeting from the department, and alumni’s story. The present research aims to explore the students’ perception of Caring and Sharing in improving well-being. To achieve the purpose of the study, a narrative inquiry is employed. Three students from English Literature Department who joined Caring and Sharing were interviewed to know their perception and experience in the program. The finding shows that the students have positive reactions regarding Caring and Sharing and they agree that the program helps improve their well-being. It builds the students’ sense of belonging, confidence, and motivation to study. Moreover, it also identifies aspects influencing their well-being in distance learning. The limitations of the findings are discussed for future research.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the acceptance of Universitas Terbuka Tutors for the use of the Microsoft Teams application and the Learning Management System (LMS) for Webinar Tutorials (Tuweb) during the Covid-19 pandemic. The method used in this research is explanatory. The population of this research is 416 tutors of UPBJJ Semarang Open University, while the research sample is 233 tutors in teaching group of Rembang, Blora, Pati, Kudus, Jepara, Demak, and Semarang. Research data was obtained from questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. Descriptive quantitative was used to analyze the data. The finding shows the acceptance of Universitas Terbuka Tutors in the use of the Microsoft Teams application for Tuweb obtained an average of 89.77 in the totally acceptable category with a contribution of 67.5%. In addition, the acceptance of tutors in using the LMS application obtained an average of 88.04 in the category of totally acceptable with a contribution of 75.0% from other dimensions. The conclusion was that the tutors accepted the Microsoft Teams and LMS applications. Therefore, they can be implied for Tuweb activities at UPBJJT UT Semarang.

Abstract

Kelurahan Sidorejo Lor merupakan daerah penghasil labu kuning terbanyak di Salatiga. Meskipun daerah tersebut memiliki sumber daya alam yang melimpah, namun warga masyarakat tidak memiliki pengetahuan dalam mengolah dan memanfaatkan keunggulan itu secara maksimal dengan cara optimalisasi dan inovasi olahan produk. Terkait hal demikian itu, maka perlu adanya sebuah pelatihan dan bimbingan untuk meningkatkan nilai jual tinggi pada produk tersebut sehingga mampu bersaing di pasar. Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan optimalisasi olahan produk berbahan dasar labu kuning kepada mitra warga kelompok ibu-ibu PKK RW X Kelurahan. Sidorejo Lor, Salatiga agar mitra lebih produktif dan mampu memanfaatkan bahan-bahan yang ada di sekitar mereka. Kegiatan ini menggunakan metode penelitian tindakan partisipatif atau Participatory Action Research (PAR) dengan melibatkan kelompok masyarakat. PAR dilaksanakan secara parsipatif dalam kelompok masyarakat bertujuan mendapatkan pengetahuan praktis untuk perubahan hidup yang lebih baik. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah produksi makanan olahan berbahan dasar labu kuning. Dari evaluasi kemampuan yang dilakukan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan dan kemampuan mitra dalam mengoptimalkan sumber daya alam yang melimpah menjadi sebuah inovasi produk. Respon masyarakat terhadap pelatihan keterampilan pengolahan aneka kue dari labu kuning adalah baik dan menyatakan bahwa produk tersebut layak untuk dikembangkan, bukan saja karena bahannya mudah diperoleh, akan tetapi juga mudah proses pembuatannya. Kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat memberikan manfaat bagi masyarakat karena memiliki kemampuan untuk mengolah labu kuning menjadi olahan aneka kue yang cantik, sekaligus mendorong jiwa wirausaha mitra agar lebih produktif sehingga mampu meningkatkan perekonomian masyarakat.
