Abstract

The abundant life in John 10:10b is understood in various ways. Prosperity theology adherents understand the abundant life which is the purpose of Christ's first coming into this world in a different way than others. The group understands that the 'abundance' (περισσὸν) in this text is material (worldly) abundance that Christ brings to every believer. Therefore there is an assumption that every believer should live with material abundance. Conversely, a believer whose life is materially poor will be considered to lack faith or sin which results in God not blessing him with material abundance. The methodology used in this study is the literature study method using exegesis principles based on Biblical hermeneutic laws. In-depth exegesis studies, based on textual, contextual, grammatical, structural, historical, literary, exegetical, and theological studies show that 'abundance' in the text is not an object (something) that believers get, but a description of how they get that object (eternal life). According to this text, the purpose of Christ's first coming is to bring eternal life to every believer in Him, and believers will very abundantly obtain eternal life. Really the coming, death, and resurrection of Christ are of no value if the goal is only to provide material abundance for each of His followers.

Abstract

This paper is about The Millennial Kingdom in Revelation 20: 1-10. By using the exegetical method which has nine steps of analysis (context, literary, structural, grammatical, lexical, historical/conceptual, theological and exegetical), the writer examines the meaning of the phrase inductively. The conclusions obtained are several things, which can be generally described that the phrase thousand years is about the existence of the kingdom of God on earth in the future, literally for a thousand years, where Christ as king was accompanied by his twelve disciples as judges. At that time, the condition of the earth was peaceful because there was no apostasy from Satan.

Abstract

This research discusses the tithe offering according to Malachi 3:6-12, which is one of the topics with a high level of complexity, resulting in various interpretations. Tithing is also a highly sensitive issue in the lives of believers in relation to the church, causing controversies and even divisions. The method used is topical/theological exegesis with an emphasis on contextual-historical analysis. As a result, it is found that tithing is one of God's commands for the nation of Israel who deviated from the Torah law. Regarding the location of tithing, it is the house of God, which in the Old Testament refers to a place within the house of God, but nowadays it can refer to the church, organizations, or individuals in need, not limited to the local church, as long as it is to advance the work of God and not for the personal interests of the recipient. The purpose or result of obedience in giving tithes is gratitude and the glorification of God's name. Tithing represents a discontinuity because believers today do not live under the Torah law, but under the grace of God through the death of Christ.

Abstract

One of the theological titles addressed to Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God. This title can be found in John 1:29 and 1:36 which is the title of John the Baptist to Jesus, and is not found in the Synoptic Gospels. A number of scholars have attempted to interpret the phrase Lamb of God both in a literal and figurative sense and there are a number of different meanings. In this paper, the author seeks the meaning of the phrase Lamb of God in John 1:29 using the exegetical method. The exegetical method used three analyses: contextual analysis, historical, and grammatical and literal analysis. From the analysis carried out, it was found that the meaning of the phrase Lamb of God which is directed at Jesus explains the work of Jesus' salvation through His death on the cross which brought redemption and remission of sins for humans by taking Jewish background: the Passover lamb, and the divine qualities possessed by Christ as the Lamb of God.

Abstract

The debate over whether "tongues" or "language" in the Bible, translated as "Bahasa Roh" in the Indonesian Bible version, still continues, especially among Pentecostal and Protestant communities. The ongoing discussion revolves around whether the baptism of the Holy Spirit continues to this day and whether the "Bahasa Roh" referred to in the Bible denotes meaningless utterances as practiced in modern Pentecostal churches. Pentecostals argue that speaking in tongues is the initial evidence and fundamental pattern of the baptism of the Holy Spirit, while others refute this claim. The primary basis for both arguments is 1 Corinthians 14:2. The purpose of this research is to uncover the true meaning of "Bahasa Roh" according to the Bible as written in 1 Corinthians 14:2. This research is qualitative research using the method of exegesis. The analyses used in this research are contextual analysis, grammatical analysis, and historical analysis. The results of the research reveal that γλώσσῃ (tongue) refers to utterances that cannot be understood and were never learned, as a result of the prompting of the Holy Spirit. As part of the gifts of the Spirit, it is necessary to serve one another well and glorify God, but it should not be the main focus because the most important aspect of all gifts is the driving motive, which is love.

Abstract

The struggle over whether salvation can be lost or not is a topic that frequently attracts attention among Christians. In the view that salvation can be lost, one of the verses used is Romans 11:22, particularly the word "cut off." On the other hand, there are views that disagree with interpreting this verse as evidence of the possibility of losing salvation. Based on these differing views, a deeper examination of the referenced verse is necessary. In analyzing this verse, the author will use a hermeneutical method with four analytical approaches: contextual, grammatical, lexical, and historical analysis. Based on the exploration of the text in Romans 11:22, it was found that the meaning of the word "cut off" does not refer to the possibility of losing salvation but serves as a stern warning that those who have been saved should not fall back into sin and transgression, as happened to the people of Israel in the past. However, if believers fall into sin, God will take firm action to remind them to repent and return to Him.
