Abstract

Abstract Introduction: Managing diabetes is complex and demands daily responsibilities like regular blood glucose testing, intensive insulin treatment, careful dietary monitoring, and enhanced physical activity. These challenges make it difficult for children and their families to maintain consistent adherence to diabetes management routines. Failure to adhere to diabetes management can lead to serious complications and may even result in death. Identifying the factors that hinder treatment adherence is essential for developing effective strategies and interventions to overcome these obstacles and improve diabetes management in children. This study aimed to identify barriers on diabetes management adherence in children with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. Methods: The research design used a systematic review following the PRISMA guidelines and utilized five databases including Proquest, Science Direct, Springer Link, Sage Journals, and Google Scholar with the keywords: “Barriers” OR “Challenges” OR “Difficulties” AND “Diabetes management” AND “Adherence” AND “Children” AND “Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus”. A total of eight articles were reviewed based on the inclusion criteria. The JBI Critical Appraisal Tools were also used as a guideline to evaluate the quality of the articles. Results: This review identifies various barriers to adherence in diabetes management in children with T1DM, including personal, sociocultural, interpersonal, environmental, and financial barriers. Conclusions: The findings from this review suggest several strategies to address barriers to diabetes management adherence involving parents, family, school, and health services. Keywords: Barriers, diabetes management, children, type 1 diabetes mellitus

Abstract

This community service activity is motivated by the local potential of Darungan Hamlet in utilizing herbal plants as health drinks, but is still limited in the aspects of processing, packaging, and marketing. This condition results in low product added value and limited economic opportunities for the community, especially members of the Catleya 3 Dasawisma Group. Motivating the mothers of the Catleya 3 Dasawisma members to become productive individuals will be an opportunity to improve and enhance the quality of family life economically. One effort that can be done is by providing scientific provisions that they can apply by creating something that has economic value. One of these is by making a health drink by utilizing natural resources that can grow well and are abundantly available in Jember. The goal of this activity is to increase the knowledge, skills, and economic independence of the community through innovative herbal dip products and the use of digital technology in marketing. The methods used include socialization, pre-tests and post-tests, training in making herbal dip with three flavors, application of production and packaging technology, and training in creating e-commerce-based marketing accounts. The target of the activity was members of the Catleya 3 Dasawisma Group located in the RT 04/RW 08 area of Darungan Hamlet with a total of 20 participants. The increase in participants' understanding of the use of herbal medicines increased as seen from the average post-test score (80.53±15.80) which was higher than the pre-test score (59.47±13.93). Participants were able to produce herbal dip hygienically and of good quality, package products with attractive labels, and have knowledge related to product marketing through Shopee and Tokopedia. In addition, participants demonstrated independence in managing small businesses based on local potential with the support of production facilities and group communication. This activity succeeded in increasing community knowledge regarding the benefits of traditional medicinal ingredients and how to utilize them, entrepreneurial skills, and expanding participants' knowledge to create e-commerce accounts. Thus, the purpose of community service was achieved, namely the realization of increasing community skills in producing herbal dip sustainably.

Abstract

Women of childbearing age are at a higher risk of developing cervical cancer due to their sexual activity. In Indonesia, cervical cancer is the second leading cause of illness and death among women. One way to reduce the mortality rate is through preventive measures, such as early detection using the VIA method. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of delivering health education through audiovisual media in enhancing the motivation of women of childbearing age to undergo VIA test. This study employs a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design, specifically a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The sample size, determined using the Slovin formula, consisted of 187 respondents selected through probability sampling with a cluster random sampling method. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon signed rank test. The findings revealed that prior to receiving audiovisual-based health education, only 4.3% of women of childbearing age demonstrated strong motivation to undergo IVA examinations. Following the health education intervention, this percentage increased significantly to 48.1%, indicating a notable improvement in motivation. The statistical test results obtained a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05). In conclusion, audiovisual-based health education using the FCMC (Family Centered Maternity Care) approach is effective in enhancing the motivation of women of childbearing age to undergo VIA test. This study serves as a foundation for strengthening promotive efforts to encourage women to participate in VIA test.

Abstract

Background: Screening is central to global cervical cancer control; however, no district/city in East Java has yet reached the screening target. Participation in Pap smear screening is influenced by multiple determinants, particularly behavioral factors linked to women’s knowledge and motivation; therefore, health education is expected to promote positive behavior change. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental, one-group pretest–posttest design in Lumajang Regency, East Java, Indonesia, conducted from August 2024 to January 2025. Purposive sampling recruited 63 women from a local community group. The intervention consisted of a structured educational module provided to all respondents. Knowledge and motivation were measured before and after the module using validated questionnaires. Results: The statistical analysis applied to this research was the Wilcoxon signed-rank test for non-normally distributed variables, with α = 0.05. Mean knowledge increased from 8.60 (min 5; max 10) at pretest to 9.57 (min 9; max 10) at posttest. Motivation to undergo Pap smear screening also improved, with mean scores increasing from 23.15 at pretest to 43.95 after the intervention. Shapiro–Wilk tests indicated non-normality for both knowledge and motivation (p < 0.05); thus, Wilcoxon tests were used. Significant differences were observed for knowledge (p < 0.001) and motivation (p < 0.001). Conclusion: These findings suggest that module-based health education effectively strengthens women’s knowledge and motivation to participate in Pap smear screening in settings where overall screening coverage remains below the target.
