Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the role of communication quality and intimacy both jointly and partially on marital commitment in dual career couples in Serang Regency Regional Apparatus Organizations. This study uses Rusbult and Buunk's theory of marital commitment, 1993; in Arriaga & Agnew 2001), quality of communication in Montgomery (1981), and Schaefer and Olson (1981; in Weeks and Hof, 1995). This study used a quantitative method with 380 dual career husband/wife subjects in the Serang Regency Regional Apparatus Organization. The research data was processed using multiple regression and linear regression. Based on the analysis conducted in this study, it is known that: the quality of communication and intimacy together have a role in marital commitment (F = 35.508 ; R2 = 0.353 ; ρ < .05). Partial calculations show that the quality of communication and emotional intimacy have a role in marital commitment, while other variables do not have a role in marital commitment.

Abstract

Divorce is a significant event in the growth of a family. When divorce occurs, it not only affects the parents but also has an impact on the children. The occurrence of divorce negatively affects the development of children, particularly during adolescence. Furthermore, experiencing parental divorce leads adolescents to question their self-worth, resulting in the formation of low self-esteem, which in turn disrupts the development of peer attachment with their peers, as adolescents perceive themselves in a diminished light. Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine the influence of self-esteem on peer attachment. The subjects of this study are adolescents (aged 10-18 years) with divorced parents in Bandung City. The research method employed is quantitative. In this study, the researcher utilized the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (Armsden & Greenberg, 1987) and the Self-esteem scale (Rosenberg, 1965), which were translated into Indonesian. IPPA consists of 25 items measuring peer attachment, with each scale comprising three aspects: trust, communication, and alienation. Meanwhile, the self-esteem scale consists of 10 items. The responses to both questionnaires (IPPA and self-esteem) will be analyzed using the linear regression method to determine the influence of self-esteem on peer attachment. The test results indicate a significance value of 0.030 (≤ 0.05). Thus, it can be concluded that self-esteem is related to peer attachment among adolescents with divorced parents in Bandung City.

Abstract

Fulfilling job demands and work responsibilities requires various resources, both from the teachers themselves and from the organization. Effective management of job resources can help teachers meet job demands. The JD-R (Job Demands-Resources) model is aimed at increasing teachers' work engagement with their profession. This study seeks to examine the role of job crafting in relation to work engagement among teachers. The theories used are the work engagement theory by Bakker, et al. (2008), and the job crafting theory by Tims and Bakker (2010, 2012). The study focuses on teachers who have worked for at least one year at Foundation "X". The data analysis technique used in this research is hierarchical regression analysis, observing the role of job crafting on work engagement, with the addition of demographic data of the teachers. The results show that job crafting affects work engagement among teachers. The correlation value (R) is 0.40, and the coefficient of determination (R square) is 0.17. This means that the job crafting variable (independent variable) has an influence of 17% on the work engagement variable (dependent variable). Demographic data, including age, number of children, spouse's employment status, and education level, strengthen the role of job crafting in relation to work engagement. The results of this study can serve as a basis for enhancing work engagement through the improvement of job crafting. Schools can strive to provide teachers with the freedom to explore innovations and be creative in the teaching process. The recommendations from this study are addressed to the research subjects to enhance their job crafting and make use of their demographic characteristics in order to remain engaged with their work. For schools, it is necessary to improve job crafting and to implement teacher development programs that take into account demographic data, which can strengthen the role of job crafting in promoting work engagement.
