Abstract

Curcumin, a curcuminoid compound of turmeric has been demonstrated to have anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Bleomycin (BLM) is an anti-cancer drug induced pulmonary fibrosis in human and animals. This study was aimed to investigate biological effects of curcumin on bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis in mice (Mus musculus) through pathomorphological assessment. In this study, 16 mice ddy strain were divided into four groups, namely (i) control, mice were subcutaneously (SC) injected with 100 µl sterilized aquadest in dorsal skin, (ii) BLM group, injected SC with 100 µl of 1 mg/ml BLM in dorsal skin, (iii) Curcumin (CMN) group, mice were intraperitoneally (IP) injected with 100 mg/kg body weight (BW) curcumin dissolved in 0,5% carboxy methyl cellulose (CMC) and injected with 100 µl sterilized aquadest SC, (iv) BLM+CMN group, injected SC with 100 µl of BLM 1 mg/ml and injected IP with 100 mg/kg BW CMN in 0,5% CMC. All treatments were performed daily for four weeks period. The lung samples were collected and fixed in buffered neutral formalin (BNF) 10%. Histopathological evaluation was performed with hematoxylin-eosin (HE) and Masson’s trichrome (MT) stains. The results showed that BLM treatment significantly increased fibrosis area and alveolar wall area fraction as compared to control. OIn the other hand, CMN treatment significantly reduced fibrosis area and alveolar wall area fraction in mice treated with BLM. In conclusion, our study showed that CMN treatment may inhibit lung fibrogenesis in BLM-induced pulmonary fibrosis. Key Words: Bleomycin, Curcumin, Mice, Pulmonary Fibrosis

Abstract

The attempt to achieved the goal could be through using artificial insemination (AI) by frozen semen. This study aims to evaluate the effect of the breed on sperm motility using Madura, Bali bulls and Bos taurus frozen semen. The experiment used local bull frozen semen (Madura and Bali bull breeds) and Bos taurus bull (Simmental and Limousin breeds) produced by Singosari’s artificial insemination center. Sperm motility evaluation was conducted using computer-assisted sperm analysis (CASA, Spermvision, Minitube®, Germany). The analyzing data uses a generalized linear model, one-way ANOVA using the SPSS 26 software. Duncan’s multiple range test (DMRT) was used to determine any significant differences. The result shows for total motility (TM) and progressive motility (PM) are 63.89±1.72% and 54.38±4.39% (Madura bull), 51.48±3.30% and 42.47±5.48% (Bali bull), 58.21±1.13% and 44.38±3.15% (Simmental bull), also 58.12±1.64% and 51.49±3.03% (Limousin bull). There is no differential sperm motility (P>0.005) in both parameters for all breeds. All frozen semen used in this study qualifies with Indonesian National Standards and is approved for use in the artificial insemination program.

Abstract

Ayam ras petelur merupakan ayam yang dipersiapkan dan dipelihara guna memenuhi kebutuhan telur konsumsi. Beberapa faktor yang menentukan tingkat keberhasilan usaha peternakan ayam adalah manajemen perkandangan, kesehatan dan pakan. Pakan sangat mempengaruhi produksi telur baik secara kualitas maupun kuantitas. Pakan yang diberikan harus mempunyai kandungan nutrisi yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan ayam. Penyusunan formulasi ransum yang sesuai dengan umur dan kebutuhan dari ayam petelur menjadi kunci keberhasilan peternakan. Tujuan dari studi kasus ini adalah untuk mempelajari manajemen pakan ayam petelur yang diterapkan di Male Karya Prima Pasir Kerud Farm, Kabupaten Cianjur, Jawa Barat. Data yang diperoleh berasal dari data sekunder dan data primer. Data sekunder didapatkan dari catatan peternakan, sedangkan data primer didapatkan melalui pengamatan langsung. Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa pelaksanaan manajemen pemberian pakan ayam petelur di Male Karya Prima Pasir Kerud Farm sudah dilaksanakan dengan baik, sehingga dapat memenuhi target hen day yang telah ditetapkan manajemen peternakan.

Abstract

Hygiene and sanitation aspects are important requirement in slaughtering animals qurban at foot and mouth disease (FMD) outbreak situation in Indonesia. This community service aims to provide guarantees to the public that the meat from animals qurban by Djuanda University was ASUH (safe, health, intact, and halal), and doing the assessment for hygiene and sanitation apratices in slaughtering process. Antemortem and postmortem examinations conducted on 19 cows and 2 sheeps. Ante-mortem examination includes examination of general condition, age, body temperature, eyes mucosa, oral mucosa, and signs of disease. Postmortem examination carried on digestive tract organs, heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, spleen, head, and carcass. The application of hygiene and sanitation practices in slaughtering process were assessed with qualitatively assessment, 1 point for fulfilled and 0 for unfulfilled. Total points were summed and presented as a percentage. The results of postmortem examination show a case of fasciolosis in a cow’s liver, and 85% hygiene and sanitation aspects were fullfilled.

Abstract

Beternak ayam kampung sudah menjadi bagian kehidupan petani dan peternak di pedesaan. Pengembangan ayam kampung berpotensi menjadi usaha utama bagi peternak. Permasalahan usaha ternak ayam kampung, terutama harga pakan yang tinggi dan pemasaran ayam kampung yang sempit. Penggunaan inovasi teknologi melalui intensifikasi budidaya dan memberikan nilai tambah pada produk ayam kampung menjadi solusi mengatasi permasalahan tersebut. Penyuluhan dan pelatihan budidaya dan strategi pemasaran dilaksanakan di Desa Citepus, Palabuhan Ratu Kabupaten Sukabumi. Peserta kegiatan adalah peternak ayam kampung usaha mandiri maupun yang sudah memiliki kelompok. Metode kegiatan pengabdian melalui penyuluhan, pelatihan dan praktik langsung metode pelabelan dan pengemasan produk karkas ayam menggunakan alat vacuum sealer. Sebelum pelaksanaan kegiatan dilakukan pre-test dan diakhir kegiatan dilakukan post-test, untuk mengetahui kondisi awal dan peningkatan pengetahuan dan ketrampilan mengenai budidaya dan pemasaran ayam kampung. Materi penyuluhan dan pelatihan disampaikan oleh narasumber yang berkompeten dari dosen-dosen prodi Peternakan. Peserta mengikuti kegiatan pelatihan dengan baik dan antusias. Peserta dapat memahami penyusunan ransum ayam kampung menggunakan pakan lokal sehingga harga ransum menjadi lebih rendah. Pada praktik pelabelan dan pengemasan produk ternak, peserta dapat melakukannya dengan baik. Bagi mahasiswa kegiatan ini menjadi pengalaman dan bentuk best practice dari kegiatan di luar kampus, yang akan diregognisi kedalam sks matakuliah.

Abstract

Pelaksanaan pemotongan hewan kurban di tahun 2023 atau 1444H masih menuntut kewaspadaan kita terhadap berbagai penyakit pada ternak, seperti penyakit mulut dan kuku (PMK), penyakit kulit berbenjol (LSD), dan PPR. Tujuan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini merupakan upaya dalam memberikan jaminan rasa aman kepada masyarakat bahwa ternak yang dijadikan hewan kurban saat hari raya Idul Adha merupakan ternak yang sehat, selain itu daging yang dihasilkan juga memenuhi kriteria aman, sehat, utuh, dan halal. Kegiatan ini meliputi sosialisasi kepada panitia kurban mengenai penyakit-penyakit pada ternak yang sedang berkembang saat ini, pelatihan untuk mahasiswa sebagai calon petugas pemeriksa kesehatan hewan kurban, serta pemeriksaan antemortem dan postmortem pada 21 ekor sapi dan 8 ekor domba. Hasil pemeriksaan antemortem menunjukan bahwa 100% ternak sapi dan domba dalam keadaan sehat dan diperbolehkan untuk dipotong sebagai hewan kurban, sedangkan hasil pemeriksaan postmortem menunjukan 24% dari ternak sapi mengalami fasciolosis ringan. Selain itu juga terdapat peningkatan penerapan higiene dan sanitasi panitia kurban pada seluruh aspek kegiatan mulai dari pemotongan hingga daging siap dibagikan kepada masyarakat.

Abstract

Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) merupakan salah satu kegiatan yang bertujuan untuk mengantarkan mahasiswa menjadi individu yang unggul baik dalam penguasaan ilmu, kemampuan menganalisis kondisi masyarakat sekitar, serta memberikan solusi dalam mengatasi berbagai permasalahan sosial, ekonomi maupun politik sesuai bidang keilmuan. Pada kegiatan ini mahasiswa ditempatkan di Kelurahan Cisarua, Kecamatan Cisarua, Kabupaten Bogor selama 40 hari. Program kerja unggulan yang diusung adalah membangun kampung ramah lingkungan dikarenakan isu utama masyarakat di daerah ini adalah mengenai sampah. Dalam mewujudkan program kerja unggulan, mahasiswa melakukan gerakan gebrak bersih, mengajarkan masyarakat mengenai memilah sampah, mengolah sampah organik menjadi pupuk kompos, hingga mengolah sampah anorganik menjadi kerajinan tangan yang dapat dimanfaatkan untuk kehidupan sehari-hari. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah meningkatnya kesadaran masyarakat mengenai pengolahan sampah, meningkatnya skill masyarakat dalam membuat kerajinan berbahan sampah anorganik, serta menyelamatkan lingkungan tempat tinggal mereka dari bahaya sampah.

Abstract

The high demand for local chicken products in large quantities cannot be met by local chicken farmers. The high demand for local chicken products requires alternatives to increase productivity, one of which is using Artificial Insemination (AI) technology. This research aims to evaluate effectiveness and efficiency the use of micropipette in implementing artificial insemination to egg weight, fertility and hatchability of local chicken. 108 local chicken hen from three local chicken strain i.e. KUB, Merawang and IPB D-1 (each of strain 36 chicken) were used in this research and were subjected to artificial insemination using micropipette. The semen collection is done using the massase method which involves two local male chickens each (KUB, Merawang, and IPB D-1). The research was conducted using a two factors factorial complete randomized design, the factors were local chicken strain (KUB, Merawang, and IPB D-1) and amount of fresh semen (5,10, and 15 microliter), each treatment were repeated four times and each experimental unit consisted of three chickens. The results were obtained from the research were egg weight ranged between 46,15±0,40-46,95±0,48 gram with average 46,56±0,14 gram, egg Fertility ranged from 80,18±0,21%-86,11±3,21% with average 83,14± 2,3% and egg hatchability ranged from 91,03±2,84-94,45±6,41% with mean of 92,96±2,16%%. There were no significant effect either from local chicken strain nor amount of fresh semen on all variables. In Addition, there was no interaction between two factors.

Abstract

Curcumin is the main active ingredient from turmeric plant (Curcuma longa) has been known as anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. Bleomycin is an anti-cancer drug which have side effects such as scleroderma and body weight loss in animals or human. This study was aimed to determined biological effects of curcumin to bleomycin-induced scleroderma and body weight loss in mice (Mus musculus). Sixteen male mice (ddy strain) were devided in to four groups: (i) negative control, received aquadest injection 0,1 ml (SC); (ii) bleomycin (BLM), received 0,1 ml bleomycin 1 mg/ml SC injection; (iii) curcumin (CMN), received aquadest injection 0,1 ml (SC) and 100 mg/kg BW curcumin in 0,5% carboxymethylcellulose (IP); and (iv) BLM+ CMN, received 0,1 ml bleomycin 1 mg/ml SC injection and 100 mg/kg BW curcumin in 0,5% carboxymethylcellulose (IP). All treatments are given every day for 4 weeks and body weigh were measured every week. The dorsal skin as injection’s dot evaluated by histopathology assessment with HE stains. BLM group showed body weight and hair follicles were loss significantly with skin fibrosis and inflammatory cells infiltration. However, CMN treatment showed opposite results in BLM-treated mice. Conclusively, this study showed CMN treatment may inhibit skin fibrogenesis in BLM-induced scleroderma and body weight loss.
