Abstract

Majelis zikir dan selawat (MZS) is a community with a routine in the form of recitation of zikir or selawat. In the context of Indonesian culture, MZS thrives with various variants. This study seeks to uncover the opportunities and challenges of MZS as a community that has a spiritual-indigenous therapeutic element. The research was carried out by phenomenology method. The collection of data was implemented by conducting interviews and observation. As a result, these MZS have opportunities and challenges. The opportunity is to become a means of achieving catharsis, the process of changing irrational beliefs into rational, increasing submission, fostering prejudice both to God and life, and increasing social support. This opportunity makes the MZS potentially become spiritual-indigenous psychotherapy. However, the MZS assemblies also have challenges that can threaten their functioning as psychotherapy if they are not appropriately managed. One of them is their members' comprehensive rate about the meaning of dhikr and selawat and the members' objections when they have to become the host of MZS’s.

Abstract

This study aimed to explain the dynamics of Sufi healing through Sufi dance. Using the qualitative approach through the phenomenology of religion, the data of the present study was collected by interviews, observations, and visual materials. The research sample consisted of five members of a Sufi dance group in Surakarta, who found relief from their physical and psychological ailments through the movements performed in the whirling dance training. The healing process of physical and psychological issues through the Sufi dance can be seen in the aspects of catharsis, breath management and regulation, cognitive restructuring, habituation mechanisms, self-control, and muscle stretching. However, the expression of these aspects in differed in each case. In addition, this study also found that ablution and prayer and the altered state of consciousness during the performance of the dance had an impact on the healing process. Therefore, Sufi dance should be included as an alternative healing method.

Abstract

Adolescence is a crucial stage in the human developmental phase because adolescents typically experience various problems. One of the problems is the quarter-life crisis (QLC). QLC is a problem related to anxiety about multiple roles that have yet to be completed in the adolescence phase, such as university, work, and marriage. Literature mentions that QLC can be buffered by husnuzan. However, the authors found that some Raden Mas Said Islamic State University Surakarta (Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Mas Said Surakarta) students who are in adolescence and implementing husnuzan still experience QLC. Thus, the present study aimed to explain the correlation between husnuzan and a quarter-life crisis. The study used a correlational quantitative approach. Therefore, data collection instruments were in the form of Likert scales. Six experts validated the husnuzan and QLC instruments to ensure their validity. The two instruments were also tested, resulting in a reliability coefficient of 0.941 for the QLC scale and 0.908 for the husnuzan scale. The study involved 300 UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta students aged 21-25 years old. An analysis with regression analysis showed F=178.523 and β=-0.612 with p<0.01. In other words, there is an effect of husnuzan on quarter-life crisis among students of UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta. In the context of da'wah, this research is expected to be a reference theme for preachers targeting adolescents and preachers' efforts to overcome the problems of adolescents.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of Trait and Factor theory-based career counseling services on career decision-making among twelfth-grade students at As Salafi Balun Vocational School. The research addresses the prevalent confusion and uncertainty in career selection due to limited self-understanding and inadequate guidance. Employing a quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest model, all 17 students in the target population participated. Data were collected using a validated career decision-making questionnaire and analyzed with descriptive statistics, paired sample t-tests, Wilcoxon Signed-Rank tests, and effect size calculations. The results show a significant improvement in students’ career decision-making abilities, with posttest scores markedly higher than pretest scores and a very large effect size. The findings confirm that structured Trait and Factor-based counseling enhances career maturity and reduces indecision. In conclusion, the intervention is effective in fostering informed career choices, though future studies should consider larger samples and longer follow-up periods.

Abstract

Happiness is one of the factors that support mental health. However, not all theories of happiness are cross-culturally applicable. This condition causes happiness scales that use Western theories to be less relevant to groups of individuals with certain cultures and beliefs. Therefore, this study aims to develop a happiness scale from Al-Ghazali's concept (sa'ādah scale) in the context of Indonesian Muslim adolescents. After all items were validated by six raters (content validity coefficients ranged from 0.792 to 0.958), the sa'ādah scale was tested on 303 Muslim adolescents (female=170, male=133) in Central Java and Yogyakarta (Mage=20.759, SDage=1.383). The assumptions of unidimensionality and local independence were met. Of the total 32 items, one item was eliminated because the MNSQ outfit score was greater than 1.50. The point-to-measure correlation of the remaining 31 items was greater than 0.30 with satisfactory PSR and ISR. In addition, the correlation between the sa'ādah scale and the Tathmainn al-Qulūb Scale (TQS) (r=0.498; p<0.01) and the gratitude scale (r=0.909; p<0.01) was satisfactory. Thus, the sa'ādah scale was found to be of good quality. This sa'ādah scale can be used for research and measurement in efforts to achieve mental health among Muslim adolescents in Indonesia.
