The study also indicated variations in adopting vertical and horizontal moral principles among male and female adolescents. The research centred on senior high school students residing in rural regions of the North District in Aceh province. Three hypotheses were formulated and analyzed through IMB-SPSS.22.0. Data from 136 students aged between 16-19 years were processed using instruments sourced from the Muslim Personality-Religiosity Inventory (MPRI), which comprised twenty indicators, and t-tests and r2 were conducted. The research indicated a significant correlation and Influence between Islamic moral vertical and horizontal values and adolescent behavior. Furthermore, the study discovered that male and female students embrace vertical and horizontal moral values differently at a significant level. This finding confirmed that adopting Islamic moral values shapes students' conduct. Therefore, all adolescents must embrace Islamic moral values as they engage in their communities.

Abstract

This study critiques the digitalization gap in education, focusing on the neglect of extracurricular activities and the integration of Islamic values. While digital reforms enhance administrative efficiency and curriculum design, they often sideline activities that foster holistic student engagement. Platforms like SIAKAD and EdLink offer limited support for extracurricular programs, reducing Gen-Z’s exposure to interactive, value-based environments. A qualitative case study at IAIN Langsa, Lhokseumawe, and Takengon highlights the insufficient incorporation of Islamic values in co-curricular frameworks. Data from focus group discussions and interviews with stakeholders, lecturers, and students reveal logistical challenges and institutional resistance as key barriers. Misalignment with Gen-Z’s preference for integrated learning—combining spirituality, social justice, and career readiness—underscores the need for reform. Critiquing conventional engagement theories, the study proposes a new model rooted in Islamic principles to bridge theoretical gaps and promote holistic, meaningful student development in Islamic higher education.

Abstract

This study examines the integration of social sciences and Islamic values in Islamic Higher Education Institutions (IHEIs) as an effort to harmonize Islamic intellectual traditions with modern knowledge. The integration of sociology, anthropology, psychology, and political science is considered essential for developing graduates with analytical competence and strong moral foundations. This research employs a qualitative multi-case study approach investigates three IHEIs in Aceh, Indonesia. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, document analysis, and observations, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that integration is driven by two motivations: primary addressing complex social issues and strengthening academic competitiveness. However, the process faces challenges including epistemological tensions between traditions, methodological differences, and limited interdisciplinary faculty capacity. Despite these constraints, integration contributes to students’ critical thinking, moral awareness, and societal engagement. The study concludes that interdisciplinary integration can enhance the relevance of Islamic higher education while preserving its ethical and intellectual foundations.
