Abstract

High-order thinking skills (HOTS) are important skills that need to be developed early on. The Problem Based Learning (PBL) model as an active learning approach has the potential to improve students' HOTS by involving them in solving real-world problems. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model and curiosity in improving high-order thinking skills (HOTS) of fifth-grade elementary school students, as well as to analyze the interaction of the two variables in supporting the development of students' cognitive skills. The research method applied is an experimental study with a 2 x 2 factorial design, involving two independent variables, namely the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model and curiosity, and one dependent variable, namely high-order thinking skills (HOTS). The sample used in this study was 68 fifth-grade students from two elementary schools in Jakarta who were randomly selected using the cluster random sampling technique. The data collection techniques used were through HOTS ability tests, curiosity questionnaires, and observations of the learning process. Data analysis was carried out using a two-way ANOVA test to identify the influence and interaction between variables. In conclusion, the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model is effective to be applied in learning to improve students' HOTS, especially if supported by a high sense of curiosity. This approach can create a more meaningful and relevant learning environment, and become one of the innovative strategies in efforts to improve the quality of learning at the elementary school.

Abstract

This study aims to systematically analyze the evolution, research trends, and scientific impact of digital teaching and learning scaffolding through the application of bibliometric analysis. By employing the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 methodology, a total of 396 relevant journal articles published between 2013 and 2023 were identified from Google Scholar using Publish or Perish (PoP). The dataset was then analyzed using VOSviewer, with a specific focus on citation patterns, keyword co-occurrence, co-authorship networks, and thematic clusters. The bibliometric mapping revealed five dominant research clusters: (1) integration of digital technology in higher education, (2) learning strategies and their impact on students’ outcomes, (3) digital games and scaffolding approaches in children’s education, (4) teacher education development and practice, and (5) contextual influences in educational research. In addition, the study identifies prominent authors, highly influential publications, and major institutional as well as international collaborations, offering a comprehensive overview of the intellectual structure of the field. The findings highlight an increasing global interest in digital scaffolding in education, demonstrating its significant contributions to improving student engagement, cognitive development, problem-solving, and personalized learning experiences. Nevertheless, several challenges remain evident, particularly in terms of accessibility across diverse contexts, teacher readiness to adopt innovative pedagogies, and technological limitations within resource-constrained environments. This research contributes to the academic discourse by providing evidence-based insights and practical recommendations to optimize the implementation of digital scaffolding in contemporary educational settings. Moreover, it emphasizes the importance of continuous exploration of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality (VR), and adaptive learning systems to further strengthen the effectiveness and sustainability of digital scaffolding practices in the future.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the connection between fourth graders' scientific literacy and critical thinking abilities in the 2023–2024 school year at SDN Kalibaru 05. Since the study sample included all fourth graders at SDN Kalibaru 05, a saturated sample was the sampling strategy employed. Objective, multiple-choice exams measuring scientific literacy (15 questions) and critical thinking (16 items) were used to gather data. With a dependability of 0.626, the whole instrument was valid. Due to the non-normal distribution of the data, non-parametric Spearman Rank correlation analysis was used for hypothesis testing. This research found a favorable and statistically significant correlation between students' scientific literacy and their ability to think critically. Children who are well-versed in the scientific method are therefore more likely to be capable thinkers. Science literacy and pupils' ability to think critically are two areas that teachers are strongly urged to work on. It is suggested that more studies be conducted to investigate the variables that influence scientific literacy and to evaluate the efficacy of various methods, techniques, and instructional media in this regard.. Keywords: Correlatiom, Science Literacy, Critical Thingking Skills, Science, Elementery School.

Abstract

The 21st-century learning has undergone a paradigm shift in education from teacher-centered to student-centered. It recently emphasises students' critical and creative thinking abilities, effective communication, innovation, problem-solving, and collaboration. This study examined the Ricosre model's effectiveness with the Question Formulation Technique (QFT) in enhancing students' higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) and science literacy. It involved 296 fifth-grade students from three selected state elementary schools, chosen through cluster random sampling. Each group consisted of 148 students divided into control and experimental groups. Data were collected through multiple-choice and essay instruments and subsequently analysed using multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA). The research variables were students' higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) and science literacy. The results indicated that the Ricosre model with QFT effectively improves students' higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) and science literacy, as it encouraged active participation during the learning process, trained students to develop questioning skills, find answers, analyse, share ideas, and draw conclusions. Thus, it can foster curiosity and metacognitive abilities among students.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between scientific literacy skills and digital literacy skills of fifth grade students at SDN Cengkareng Barat 03 Pagi. The method used in this research is descriptive correlational with moment product correlation test. Researchers collected data through tests for scientific literacy and questionnaires for digital literacy. The results showed that out of 60 students, the highest score of Scientific Literacy was 90 and the lowest score was 65 with Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) of 75. The normality test shows that the significance value of scientific literacy and digital literacy is greater than 0.05 (0.200 > 0. 05, 0.200 > 0.05 and 0.132 > 0.05, 0.200 > 0.05). The result of the linearity test is that the significance value is greater than 0.05 (0.631 > 0.05). Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that there is a relationship between scientific literacy skills and digital literacy abilities of fifth grade students at SDN Cengkareng Barat 03 Pagi in the high category with a value of r = 0.691.
