Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a disease that requires early attention. One effort to prevent increased blood pressure in hypertension sufferers is to implement a diet that has been consulted with nutrition experts. Objectives: The aim of preparing this literature review is to compare the effectiveness of implementing a low-salt diet and dietary approaches to stop hypertension from the results of previous research. Design: The design used in preparing this article is a systematic review. Data Sources: This systematic review used 5 search databases to collect articles, including SCOPUS, Pubmed, Google Scholar, DOAJ, and ScienceDirect with the search year range 2019-2024. Review Methods: The researchers used the JBI Critical Appraisal guidelines to determine articles suitable for this systematic review. Then, the selected articles were reviewed comprehensively using a narrative approach. Results: Search results obtained 10,685 publications. Researchers filtered by eliminating duplicate publications, reviewing articles, and focusing on the Issue of Interest in Table 1 totaling 9,578 publications. Researchers re-screened the title (n = 598), abstract (n = 387), and full text (n = 113) of each publication that did not meet the inclusion criteria in Table 1. The researchers found 9 full-text publications that met the requirements for use in this systematic review. However, researchers only used 7 publications because 2 publications were considered to have a risk of bias. Conclusion: Based on the results of a systematic review that has been carried out, it was found that implementing the DASH diet will be more effective than implementing a low-salt diet.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most common health issues experienced by the elderly worldwide, including in Indonesia. In Kepuhkembeng Village, Peterongan District, Jombang Regency, hypertension is a serious concern as it can significantly reduce the quality of life of the elderly and increase the risk of cardiovascular complications such as stroke and heart failure. This integrated education and mentoring program aims to improve the knowledge and quality of life of elderly individuals with hypertension through health education interventions, increased medication adherence, and adoption of a healthy lifestyle. The program involved 48 elderly participants and included structured health education, support through elderly health services (Posyandu Lansia), and the engagement of families and health cadres to monitor the elderly's blood pressure continuously. Through pre-test and post-test methods, evaluations showed a significant increase in the elderly’s knowledge of hypertension and its management. The average knowledge score improved from 5.6 to 8.3, and mean blood pressure readings decreased from 154/92 mmHg to 140/86 mmHg after the intervention. These results underscore the importance of integrated education and mentoring programs in managing hypertension and highlight the role of family and community in enhancing the quality of life of elderly individuals.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension and diabetes mellitus are degenerative diseases that increase due to risk factors such as obesity, aging, poor diet, and unhealthy lifestyle. Objective: The research was to assess the effectiveness of the DASH diet in reducing blood pressure and blood glucose levels in hypertensive and diabetic patients. Methods: A single-factor quasi-experimental study with a randomized pretest-posttest comparison group design was conducted on 36 respondents selected through simple random sampling from 305 Posbindu residents in Setonorejo Village. Data collection involved observation sheets, sphygmomanometers, glucose test kits, and the DASH diet SOP. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and the Kruskal-Wallis Test were used for data analysis. Results: The DASH diet significantly reduced systolic blood pressure (p = 0.006) and blood glucose levels (p = 0.008). However, only the 2600-calorie DASH diet significantly impacted diastolic blood pressure (p = 0.025), while 1600 and 2000-calorie diets did not (p = 0.083; p = 0.059). The Kruskal-Wallis test showed no significant differences between diet groups for systolic blood pressure (p = 0.319), diastolic blood pressure (p = 0.618), and blood glucose levels (p = 0.128). Conclusions: The DASH diet effectively lowers systolic blood pressure and blood glucose levels, suggesting its potential as a non-pharmacological strategy for managing hypertension and diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Background: Scabies is a highly contagious skin disease frequently found in communal environments, including Islamic elementary schools. Limited health literacy and poor hygiene practices among students contribute to its continued spread. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the relationship between health literacy, hygiene practices, and scabies prevention behaviors among Islamic elementary school students. Methods: A cross-sectional analytic study was conducted involving 50 students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) Miftahul Ulum Blaban, Pamekasan, East Java. Data were collected using structured questionnaires assessing health literacy, hygiene practices, and scabies prevention behaviors. Spearman’s rank-order correlation was used to analyze the relationship between variables, with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The majority of students (60%) demonstrated poor hygiene behavior, and 40% had low health literacy. A significant positive correlation was found between health literacy and scabies prevention (r = 0.479, p < 0.001), as well as between hygiene practices and scabies prevention (r = 0.455, p < 0.001). Conclusion: Higher levels of health literacy and improved hygiene practices are associated with better scabies prevention behaviors among Islamic elementary school students. Strengthening school-based health education is essential to reduce the incidence of scabies in similar educational environments.

Abstract

Breast cancer is one of the serious health problems worldwide, including in Indonesia. Breast health education plays an important role in increasing public awareness of the dangers of breast cancer, including in adolescents. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of breast health education as an early detection system on attitudes about breast cancer prevention in grade VII students. This study design used a pre-experimental with a one group pre-test-post test design. The sample of this study was 51 students using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using an attitude questionnaire. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon Test with a significance level of 0.05. The results of the study showed that before being given education, 47 respondents (92%) had good attitudes, while a small portion of 4 respondents (8%) had bad attitudes. And after being given education, 42 (96%) respondents had good attitudes and a small portion (4%) 2 respondents had bad attitudes. The results of the data analysis p 0.000 0.05 then H1 is accepted, meaning that there is an effect of education on improving the attitudes of grade VII students. The results of the study showed that health education greatly influenced students' understanding and attitudes about breast cancer prevention by routinely performing BSE once a month after menstruation. In addition to health education, support from the surrounding environment starting from parents, health workers and peers also influenced understanding of attitudes about breast cancer prevention.
