Abstract

The purpose of this PkM is to provide training and assistance regarding basic welding techniques that are useful for increasing student competence in welding. This training and mentoring in welding techniques serves as a provision for students to enter the world of work and entrepreneurship for SMK graduates as well as assisting the productive process of SMK students who lack funds and practicum facilities to improve their competence in the field of welding. The method used to solve the problems that occur is to use the survey method at SMK to obtain PkM data as needed, formulate training materials, schedule time-related training implementations, arrange instructors who will provide training, make activity evaluation designs, carry out training and mentoring activities Welding techniques were attended by students of SMK Samudra Indonesia, welding teachers, students and lecturers of Mechanical Engineering at the Medan State Polytechnic. The results of the PkM implementation are as follows: Welding skills that can equip SMK students to enter the world of work are being able to operate a welding machine properly and being able to connect plates using welding. The responses from SMK students who took part in the training and assistance from the Medan State Polytechnic Mechanical Engineering Study Program were as follows: they were happy because they had acquired welding skills that they had not mastered to their full potential and the teachers hoped that next year they could continue with other programs.

Abstract

In recent times, many studies have been carried out on desalination systems in areas that have difficulty in obtaining clean water sources. Desalination is a method used to distill salt water or brackish water into clean water using solar power as its energy source. This desalination process is a practical alternative that can be used to offer renewable energy sources that are used to produce clean water. To perform energy analysis, the first law of thermodynamics is used as a basis. This study aims to obtain the results of the amount of energy obtained from the solar desalination system and to determine the factors that greatly affect the amount of energy obtained from the system for evaporating water. The method used in this research is an experiment by testing a solar desalination device for eight days. The results show that the highest thermal energy produced is 8.98 kWh and the lowest is 1.56 kWh, and the factors that influence the amount of thermal energy are the heat transfer coefficient and the amount of distilled water produced by the system.

Abstract

Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan dasar vokasional otomotif siswa Madrasah Aliyah Taman Pendidikan Islam Medan melalui pendekatan Independent Thematic Community Service Collaboration (I-TCSC). Kegiatan dilaksanakan oleh Tim PKM Politeknik Negeri Medan bekerja sama dengan mahasiswa Kolej Komuniti Kelana Jaya Malaysia dan melibatkan 30 siswa sebagai peserta. Program dirancang dalam tiga kegiatan utama, yaitu (1) edukasi dasar teknologi otomotif, (2) praktik dasar perawatan kendaraan bermotor, dan (3) pengenalan dunia kerja serta kewirausahaan otomotif. Pelaksanaan diawali tahap persiapan berupa koordinasi dengan pihak sekolah, penyusunan perangkat materi, penyiapan alat dan prosedur keselamatan kerja, serta pengaturan pendampingan kelompok kecil. Hasil pelaksanaan menunjukkan peningkatan capaian pada aspek pengetahuan dan keterampilan praktik. Rata-rata pengetahuan siswa meningkat dari 46,86 sebelum kegiatan menjadi 78,68 setelah kegiatan. Sementara itu, hasil observasi keterampilan praktik meningkat dari 22 menjadi 42 dari skor maksimal 48, atau dari 45,8% menjadi 87,5%, yang mencerminkan perkembangan pada ketepatan prosedur, penerapan keselamatan kerja, dan kemandirian kerja. Selain itu, sesi pengenalan dunia kerja dan kewirausahaan memperkuat orientasi siswa terhadap kebutuhan kompetensi otomotif, budaya kerja, serta peluang pengembangan diri dan usaha layanan otomotif sederhana. Program ini efektif sebagai model penguatan kesiapan kerja berbasis keterampilan vokasional pada konteks madrasah dan berpotensi direplikasi melalui pembiasaan praktik berkala serta jejaring berkelanjutan dengan dunia usaha dan dunia industri.

Abstract

The kiln machine demonstrates high operational effectiveness and infrequent breakdowns; however, this performance does not correlate linearly with the resulting product quality. The presence of yield losses—the discrepancy between actual specification-compliant output and total output—indicates production inefficiency, particularly regarding quality. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the kiln machine in activated carbon production at PT. XYZ uses the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) approach and proposes implementing Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) to minimize losses. The methodology involves measuring three primary OEE components: Availability Ratio, Performance Efficiency Ratio, and Rate of Quality Product. Analysis results reveal an average OEE value of 64.1%, which remains significantly below the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance ideal standard of 85%. This suboptimal OEE value is primarily driven by a low Rate of Quality Product at 56.89% due to high yield losses. By implementing TPM, the company is expected to enhance kiln machine effectiveness through structured maintenance, autonomous operator maintenance, and comprehensive operational quality optimization, thereby improving overall manufacturing productivity.

Abstract

Proses pengelasan banyak digunakan dalam industri manufaktur untuk menyambung baja karbon rendah seperti ST37, sehingga kontrol terhadap pendinginan menjadi penting untuk menentukan kualitas sambungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pengaruh media pendinginan (air, udara, oli) dan waktu jeda (0, 30, 60 detik) terhadap kekuatan tarik sambungan las ST37 hasil SMAW. Sembilan spesimen diuji untuk memperoleh nilai gaya dan tegangan tarik maksimum, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan ANOVA dua arah. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa media dan waktu jeda pendinginan berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kekuatan tarik; pendinginan air tanpa jeda memberikan nilai tertinggi, sedangkan oli dengan jeda menghasilkan nilai terendah. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa pendinginan cepat mampu menghasilkan struktur mikro yang lebih halus dan kuat. Secara praktis, hasil penelitian ini dapat menjadi acuan dalam menentukan prosedur pendinginan optimal guna meningkatkan kualitas sambungan las pada industri manufaktur dan perawatan komponen.

Abstract

Rural development based on agrotourism is booming in Indonesia to increase community income. The process of cultivating grapes as an agrotourism has stages from land preparation, variety selection, proper watering care, to the process of picking and processing the harvest. The Bangun Sari village community has begun to develop grape cultivation as one of the agrotourism objects. However, due to limited human resources and technology, the productivity of agrotourism plants in Bangun Sari village has not been going well. The results of the grape plants that are currently cultivated are not optimal and many grape plants have not grown well because the irrigation and watering system is not good according to plant needs. International community service activities carried out by lecturers at the Medan State Polytechnic and in collaboration with the Nilai Negeri Sembilan Malaysia Polytechnic aim to implement automatic irrigation methods for grape farmers in Medan City. Community service activities begin with the presentation of material on automatic irrigation and watering systems followed by the fabrication and installation process of equipment in the field. The results of this community service activity are in the form of increased knowledge and delivery of products in the form of automatic irrigation and watering installations that have been installed at the grape cultivation location. The construction of this automatic fertigation equipment can solve farmers' problems. Ultimately, increasing the fertility and yield of grape plants can have an impact on increasing income.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh variasi fraksi volume serat daun nanas (10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, dan 50%) terhadap sifat tarik komposit berbasis resin epoksi. Serat daun nanas terlebih dahulu diberi perlakuan alkali menggunakan larutan NaOH 5% untuk meningkatkan kekasaran permukaan dan adhesi dengan matriks. Proses pembuatan spesimen dilakukan dengan metode hand lay-up, dan pengujian tarik mengacu pada standar ASTM D638. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan fraksi volume serat hingga 30% menghasilkan kekuatan tarik maksimum sebesar 49,3 MPa. Nilai modulus Young juga meningkat hingga fraksi tersebut, kemudian menurun pada komposisi serat yang lebih tinggi akibat terbentuknya void dan aglomerasi serat.

Abstract

Pengolahan kopi kering (dry process) merupakan metode pascapanen yang banyak digunakan oleh kelompok tani karena lebih hemat biaya dan tidak memerlukan air dalam jumlah besar. Tahap pengupasan kulit tanduk (hulling) merupakan bagian paling kritis dalam keseluruhan proses karena menentukan mutu fisik green bean, rendemen, serta nilai jual. Namun, banyak kelompok tani masih menggunakan mesin huller berkapasitas rendah atau motor yang tidak sesuai kebutuhan daya aktual sehingga menyebabkan kerusakan biji, konsumsi energi berlebih, dan umur pakai mesin yang pendek. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kebutuhan daya pada rancang bangun mesin pengupas kopi kering kapasitas 360 kg/jam sebagai dasar pemilihan motor dan komponen transmisi yang tepat. Metodologi meliputi pengukuran karakteristik fisik biji kopi kering, perhitungan gaya gesek dan gaya tumbukan, perancangan transmisi sabuk–puli, serta analisis efisiensi mekanis untuk menentukan kebutuhan daya real. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa kebutuhan daya mesin hanya sekitar 1.1 kW setelah memperhitungkan efisiensi transmisi 82% dan faktor cadangan beban 1.4. Mesin mampu mencapai efisiensi pengupasan 93–96% dengan kadar biji pecah <8% pada putaran drum 800–900 rpm. Kapasitas 360 kg/jam dinilai ideal untuk kelompok tani karena meningkatkan kecepatan proses, mengurangi antrian pengolahan, serta menjaga mutu green bean. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, motor bensin 1.5–2 HP dinilai paling sesuai dengan performa mekanis dan kondisi operasional lapangan. Penelitian ini memberikan dasar teknis yang kuat bagi pengembangan mesin huller berkapasitas menengah untuk kelompok tani di Indonesia.
