Abstract

This study was carried out on a 239,439.63 ha unit of dry land in the Aceh Besar Regency. The Soil and Plant Science Laboratory and the Soil Physics Laboratory at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Syiah Kuala, analyzed soil and biomass samples. Twelve different land use types in the Aceh Besar Regency's dry land are the research locations. Utilizing a methodology with the number SNI 7724:2011, the Indonesian National Standards Agency established the biomass measuring and sampling procedure in 2011. According to the study's findings, the primary forest land use type has the greatest potential for absorbing CO2 in the forest land use type, followed by the following. Pine forest, secondary forest, teak forest, eucalyptus forest, and bush forest, in that order. In contrast, the land use categories of mixed gardens, moors, bushes, grassland, rainfed rice fields, and bare ground have the highest potential for absorbing CO2. Primary forests have the largest overall carbon dioxide absorption among the many forest land use types. These are followed, in order, by secondary forests, bush forests, eucalyptus forests, pine forests, and teak forests. The primary forest land use type has the largest total CO2 absorption among the non-forest land use types, followed by grasslands, shrubs, mixed gardens, rainfed rice fields, moorland, and bare ground, in that order. The Aceh Besar Regency's numerous dry land uses can benefit from enhanced natural and environmental sustainability due to the wide stem diameter and abundance of woody plants, which can also increase CO2 absorption. Highlights High CO2 potential and sequestration are critical in controlling climate change Humans play an important role in regulating and maintaining the availability of plants to maintain environmental stability. Forest protection plays an important role in maintaining the biodiversity of plants, animals, and endangered species in protected forest areas.

Abstract

English education faces challenges in academic writing due to technological advancements and multimodal writing. Due to the incompatibility between present curricula and student demands, the study intends to restructure the curriculum to emphasize multimodal writing projects that meet students' needs and multimodal paradigms.  The study was a type of Design and Development Research using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model, specifically the Analysis and Design stages. It involved 30 students and three team-teaching lecturers of the English Education Study Program at a private university in Indonesia. The data collection is conducted through a content analysis of the existing syllabus, needs assessment using questionnaires to the students, followed by interviews with the lecturers to further reinforce the data obtained from the questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using a qualitative methodology that incorporates triangulation techniques and relationship mapping. The research results highlighted the need for curricula that are more tailored to multimodal projects and student needs. It implies that curriculum reconstruction has become crucial to accommodating changing needs and technologies. It is a progressive step in improving the quality of English language education.

Abstract

Indonesian students continue encounter difficulties when it comes to reading English academic materials as English is their foreign language. The study aims to explore the reading strategies employed by English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students in order to improve their reading comprehension and to determine whether a significant correlation exists between reading strategies and reading comprehension. The study involved 60 participants from one senior high school in Batam, Indonesia. The study utilized Survey of Reading Strategies (SORS) and reading comprehension test. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was performed to determine the normality of the data distribution while Pearson correlation was utilized to investigate the interrelation among the variables. The results showed that students most commonly employed problem-solving strategies when reading and there was a significant correlation between reading strategy and reading comprehension. The findings suggest that students who employ a variety of reading strategies, including problem-solving strategies, support reading strategies, and global reading strategies, perform better on reading comprehension assessments. The study made a significant addition to the field of English language teaching by highlighting the need of raising EFL students’ awareness and teaching them proper reading strategy for comprehending scholarly texts.

Abstract

Proficiency in multimodal writing is becoming progressively crucial for students, particularly in the realm of academic writing. Nevertheless, the existing learning materials in higher education fail to adequately meet those requirements. Hence, the goal of this study is to create a workbook that will assist students in improving their ability to write using various modes in academic writing classes. This study employs Research and Development, with a specific focus on the Analysis and Design phases of the ADDIE approach. The investigation had a total of 114 participants. We employed triangulation techniques to develop a questionnaire and gathered data in July 2024. Subsequently, we analyzed and displayed the data using descriptive statistics, elucidating its meaning in accordance with the pre-established categories. The requirements assessment revealed that students necessitate support in academic writing, including obtaining credible sources, employing technological tools, completing plagiarism checks, and maintaining citations. Students desire a customizable learning structure that allows them to produce multimodal (digital) texts and engage in activities both individually and collaboratively. The needs analysis determines the structure of the multimodal project workbook, which consists of five sections arranged according to the syntax of project-based learning. To achieve more effective and practical outcomes, it is critical to proceed with the research by carrying out the Development and Implementation stages.

Abstract

Abstract

A company's competitive ability is not only measured by the superiority of its products, but also by the performance of its industrial system as a whole which is reflected in the profits earned, so that it can be used for the development of its business and workforce through industrial effectiveness, as well as continuous quality improvement. Increased productivity is expected to increase the development and progress of the company. UD. Tempe Mawar Indah does not have detailed knowledge about how the company develops and improves. So it is necessary to evaluate the productivity of the company. The method used in analyzing company productivity is the American Productivity Center (APC) and productivity evaluation uses the Productivity Evaluation Tree (PET) method. The results obtained from this study are the Total Productivity Level at UD. Tempe Mawar Indah Period I (Basic) was 127.58 then in Period II it decreased to 116.88 (-10.7), also caused by increased use of resources compared to production. In Period III it also decreased again to 114.35 (-2.53), also caused by increased use of resources compared to production. As a productivity evaluation that has been carried out using the PET method, namely increasing productivity in Period III with a scenario of reducing input by 4.18% or (Rp.27,601,350) so that productivity in Period III increases to 1.19%.
