Kanker merupakan salah satu penyakit yang mematikan yang dapat menyerang siapa saja dari berbagai kalangan usia dan jenis kelamin. Salah satu yang dapat menjadi penderita kanker terbesar adalah anak-anak. Kanker yang menyerang pada anak adalah kanker dengan berbagai jenis dan stadium. Pemberian dukungan membantu individu untuk melihat segi-segi positif yang ada dalam kepercayaan diri dan kemampuan serta merasa dihargai dan berguna saat individu mengalami tekanana atau masalah. Maka dari itu, penulis bertujuan ingin mengetahui gambaran mengenai dukungan sosial pada anak penderita leukemia.

AbstractÂ This study aimed to find out whether the scientific approach implementation could improve the students' speaking ability. This study setting was in SMK Pertiwi Batam. This study was a Classroom Action Research (CAR) which using Mixed Method of Sequential Explanatory Designs. The data taken through observation sheets, teacherâ€™s journal, field notes, and speaking tests. The data were categorized of quantitative and qualitative data. And the data would be analyzed by mixing both of the quantitative and qualitative data. This study was conducted in two cycles which each consisted of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The outcomes of this study indicated that there was any improvement of students' speaking ability. The mean of pre-test of speaking was 44.35. The mean of speaking project of cycle 1 was 66.08. Then, the mean of speaking project of cycle 2 was 73.33. It indicated that the scores and the mean in second cycle were better than the first cycle. In other words, the studentsâ€™ speaking ability improved and became better from the first meeting up to the following meeting. In addition, the scientific approach had also been implemented well.Keywords: Scientific Approach, Mixed Method Research

Improving Students’ Translation Mastery by Hypnoteaching Implementation Juwita Boneka Sinaga

There is a need to know why students feel so nervous and lack of confidence when speaking. There may be a relationship between their metacognitive strategy and their self-efficacy in speaking skill. This research aimed at improving students’ translation mastery by hypnoteaching implementation. Hypnoteaching stands for two words- hypnosis and teaching. Majid defines hypnosis as a condition like a sleep called trance due to the reduction of brain wave from beta to alpha or theta. In this condition, the client’s conscious mind is opened and the hypnotist can give suggestions directly to the subconscious mind. This research was a quantitative research classified into a true experimental design. In this research, the instrument that used was multiple choice consist of 10 items. The researcher used t-test formula to find out whether there was a significant difference between the both classes after being treated. Based on the findings on the discussion, the researcher concluded that the implementation of Hypnoteaching method effectively improves the second year students’ translation ability at SMA Negeri 6 Padangsidimpuan, Bone. It could be proven by looking at the comparison between the T-test value and T-table value. The T-test value is 5.957 and with 1% of significance level and 38 degree of freedom, T-table value is 2.712 because the T-test value is higher than T-table, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. That significant improvement could be observed in the students’ motivation while the learning process runs.Keywords: translation mastery, hypnoteaching

Analysis of Figurative Language and Imagery in Taylor Swift's Songs Sari Rishita Siallagan; Sulastri Manurung; Juwita Boneka Sinaga

The aim of this research is to find out the kinds of figurative language and imagery in the song lyrics of Taylor Swift’s “1989” Album. Furthermore, in this research the researcher used qualitative descriptive method. The result of the study is presented in the form of paragraphs. The researcher analyzed the songs by reading them intensively and giving attention for each line. After that, the researcher examined the figurative language and imagery of the songs lyrics. After investigating the sentence in the songs lyrics, the researcher found eight kinds of figurative languages that are used in the songs lyrics, they are personification, metaphor, hyperbole, simile, oxymoron, allusion, litotes and metonymy. Six kinds of imagery also used in the songs lyrics, they are visual imagery, auditory imagery, organic imagery, kinesthetic imagery, tactile imagery and olfactory imagery. The most dominant of figurative language used is personification and the dominant imagery used is visual imagery. Keywords: figurative language, imagery, lyrics

The objective of the study was to find out whether significant effect of watching English movie to improve students’ listening skill at SMAN 16 Batam in academic 2019/2020. The researcher used quantitative method and focused on quasi experimental. The population in this research is all of tenth grade students that consisted of 400 students that selected by using simple random sampling technique. The subject of the study was grade X social 1 and X4. The researcher conducted research in two classes as experimental class and control class. The researcher use quantitative data by giving pre-test and post-test measure the students’ listening skill. The result of the calculating t-test was tcount ttable (3,269 1,990). It means that Null hypothesis was rejected and alternative hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, in this research was a significant effect of watching English movie to improve students’ listening skill at tenth grade of SMAN 16 Batam. Moreover, watching English movie was gave positive effect to improve students’ listening skill. Watching English movie could motivate the students and interested in learning listening skill. Therefore, the English teacher could carry out the watching English movie to improve students’ listening skill.

This research aims to find the effectiveness of Board Game to Improve Students’ Reading Mastery for eleventh grade at SMK Widya Batam in Academic Year 2017/2018. To know the method is effective or not, the writer used true-experiment applied in XI.3 and XI.5. And to know how effective used Board Game to improve students’ Reading. Board Game made students interested to learn and enjoy the subject at school and their daily activity. The students will practice their knowledge by the game, especially with Board Game. And the teacher had the new method to teach the students with game. The instrument is Task Based Picture, and analyzed the data by t-test. The result showed that there was significant to students taught by Board Game. The writer takes the conclusion that the method is effective for teaching process. The method was okay because it was own good and effective for learners.

In this research, there are many problems in learning process in the class. The problems are lack of vocabulary, and method of teaching vocabulary used. This research has purpose to students’ vocabulary mastery by using whispering game at the SMP Kartini II Batam academic Year 2015/2016. This research is quantitative research. The researcher used total sampling. The experimental class was taught using whispering game, whereas the control class was taught using lecturing method. In this research, the researcher gave 20 of questions in multiple choices form. The result of analysis can be concluded that there was significant effect. It was showed (3,01 2,01) so was rejected and was accepted. The result of analysis can be concluded that the use of whispering game at SMP Kartini II Batam in academic Year 2015/2016 gave significant effect in the students’ activity in learning process than the use of close procedure. This research entitled “An Analysis of Sociogenesis Motive of Main Character in ‘Unbroken’ movie. It discussed the socio genesis of the main character in the movie "UNBROKEN", Unbroken movie which released in 2014 American biographical thriller film in sydney, Australia. This research analyzed the sociogenesis motives of Louis that reflected in “Unbroken” movie. This research applied a qualitative research method. Data collection procedures was got by watching the movie repeatedly, took important data, arranged the data, looked for supporting data and arranged the data sistematically. The method which was used by the writers in analyzing the conflict of the main character in this movie was a descriptive qualitative method. . Data analysis procedures was analyzed by using the quotation of the film. Primary data source was Unbroken movie. While secondary data sources were collected from many sources such as the articles, script of movie, biography of the author, journal from internet, and books related to this research as references to support the data found. Based on the result of analysis, the answer to question was as follows. Louis’s sociogenesis motives was sociogenesis motive with the natural condition of life (drowning, huge waves, strong wind, scorching sun, shortage of food), sociogenesis motives with other species (shark’s attack) and sociogenesis motives with members of one’s own species (contumely from watanabe, the bird). It was concluded that Louis is a man that had incredible sociogenesis motive to survive with the difficult situation. In this research, the writer described how the personal conflict of the main character in the movie "Unbroken" was.

Pengabdian ini berjudul bimbingan Bahasa Inggris untuk anak usia dini di Kelurahan Buliang RW 18. Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan bimbingan belajar Bahasa Inggris untuk anak-anak usia dini di Kelurahan Buliang RW 18 Batam Kepulauan Riau, Sasaran pengabdian adalah anak-anak usia dini di Kelurahan Buliang RW 18 Batam Kepulauan Riau. Persiapan dilakukan dengan melakukan survei pendahuluan untuk melihat kondisi di lapangan. Luaran pengabdian ini adalah : Menumbuhkan minat belajar Bahasa Inggris anak-anak usia dini warga RW 18 kelurahan buliang kecamatan batu aji kota batam. Meningkatkan kemampuan anak-anak usia dini dalam berBahasa Inggris .Menumbuhkan kesadaran anak usia dini akan pentingnya Bahasa Inggris . Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa: ada perubahan kemampuan dari anak-anak usia dini dimana mereka yang awalnya tidak bisa berBahasa Inggris karena kurang mendapatkan pengajaran belajar Bahasa Inggris sebelumnya, menjadi bisa berBahasa Inggris meskipun masih dalam tataran sederhana. Anak anak yang awalnya takut dan tidak suka terhadap pelajaran Bahasa Inggris menjadi suka dengan Bahasa Inggris . Kesimpulan dari pengabdian ini adalah bahwa anak-anak perlu diberikan bimbingan Bahasa Inggris sedini mungkin untuk pembiasaan dan menumbuhkan semangat belajar yang tinggi di kalanagn anak.

Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan wawasan pengetahuan tentang menumbuhkembangkan potensi anak dengan pengenalan bahasa Inggris sejak dini dalam keluarga pada masyarakat. Dengan pengenalan bahasa sejak dini dapat merangsang anak menggali potensi bakat anak yaitu kecerdasan linguistik. Bahasa yang digunakan ornag tua untuk berkomunikasi dengan anak sehari-hari berkontribusi pada kemampuan anak dalam berpikir abstrak. Di Indonesia sendiri masih banyak orang yang belum mengusai bahasa Inggris dikarenakan kurangnya pembelajaran yang mereka dapatkan atau baru mendapatkan pembelajaran bahasa asing ketika usia mereka sudah dewasa, sehingga daya tangkap otak sudah kurang optimal. Sasaran pengabdian adalah masyarakat di RW 01 Kelurahan Sungai Langkai Kota Batam. Persiapan dilakukan dengan melakukan survei pendahuluan untuk melihat kondisi di lapangan mengenai masalah yang dihadapi masyarakat. Pelaksanaan dilakukan dengan memberikan layanan informasi menggunakan metode ceramah berupa penyuluhan yaitu dengan teknik presentase, dilanjutkan dengan diskusi dan Tanya jawab. Hasil kegiatan penyuluhan menunjukkan bahwa: (1). Program pengabdian pada masyarakat dengan kegiatan penyuluhan tentang menumbuhkembangkan potensi anak dengan pengenalan Bahasa Inggris sejak dini dalam keluarga di RW 01 Kelurahan Sungai Langkai Kota Batamdapat dilaksanakan dan direspon dengan baik. (2). Pelaksanaan program pengabdian pada masyarakat ini sangat bermanfaat bagi masyarakat sehingga dapat diterapkan para orang tua dengan keterbatasan guna menumbuhkembangkan potensi anak dalam berbahasa Inggris sejak dini.
