Abstract

Sacha inchi (Plukenetia volubilis L.) is one of the underutilized crops that has been adopted as a food source due to its high nutritional value, which is gradually being recognized as having potential benefits for human health. An initial obstacle to the cultivation of this commodity is seed dormancy, which requires a solution. The objectives of this study are 1) to determine the first count and final count in testing the germination capacity of seeds and suitable germination media. A completely randomized design (CRD) factorial was selected for this study. Factor 1 was P1 (ordinary water), P2 (water at 50 °C), P3 (water at 80 °C), and factor. 2 was M1 = soil:compost (2:1), M2 = soil: Sand (2:1), M3 = Soil:Sand:Compost (2:1:1). Each combination was repeated three times, with each combination consisting of 4 polybags, totaling have 135 polybags. Data were analyzed using F-tests with analysis of variance (ANOVA). If a significant effect was observed, a BNT test (5%) was conducted. Based on the research conducted, there was no significant interaction effect between seed soaking techniques and planting medium composition on germination observation. Breaking dormancy using different water immersion temperatures affects plant height at 21 days after sowing (DAS) and the number of leaves at 7 DAS. 3. Growing medium treatment has a significant effect on the number of leaves, and the M3 medium (soil : sand : compost) shows a significantly better effect compared to the l treatment.

Abstract

Purple corn is a commodity that is not been widely cultivated in Indonesia. The nutritional value of purple corn is higher than yellow and white corn. Purple corn contains anthocyanin components that act as antioxidant compounds in the prevention of several diseases such as cancer, diabetes, cholesterol, and coronary heart disease. Purple corn can also be used as a raw material for making additional food. The objective of this study was to investigate the interaction effect of rabbit manure liquid fertilizer (LOF) concentration and application time on the growth and yield of purple sweet corn. The research was carried out at the Integrated Field Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Kadiri Islamic University from September to November 2021. This factorial experiment was arranged in a randomized block design consisting of 2 factors. The first factor was the concentration of LOF (U) which consisted of 4 levels, namely U0 is 0 mL/plant, U1 is 20 mL/plant, U2 is 30 mL/plant, and U3 is 40 mL/plant. The second factor was the application time of rabbit LOF (A) involving 2 levels, namely A1 is 1 week before planting and A2 is 1 week after planting.  The combination of both factors resulted in 8 treatment combinations.  Each treatment was replicated 3 times. The results showed that there was no interaction between the concentration of rabbit’s manure LOF and application time on the growth and yield of purple sweet corn. The concentration of LOF had a significant effect on cob weight, while the time of application had a significant effect on cob weight without cob and sweetness levels.

Abstract

Abstract

The demand for baby cucumbers for fresh and processed consumption requires fast-growing, uniform, and vigorous seeds from the early stages. According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture (2022), cucumber consumption in 2019 was 2,019 kg/capita/year, increasing to 2,190 kg/capita/year in 2020 and 2,297 kg/capita/year in 2021 (Alim AA, 2024). This demand will continue to grow as Indonesia's population increases. The success of this initial phase is greatly influenced by seed quality and pre-planting pretreatment techniques, such as soaking seeds in a gibberellin solution to accelerate germination and improve early growth. Soaking time and concentration are factors that can accelerate germination. The purpose of this study was to determine the interaction between soaking time and gibberellin concentration; to determine the appropriate soaking time and concentration for breaking the dormancy of baby cucumber seeds. The research design used was a factorial RAK with two factors: soaking time (3, 6, and 9 hours) and gibberellin concentration (100, 150, and 200 ppm). Thus, there were 9 treatment combinations, each repeated 3 times, resulting in 27 experimental units, each consisting of 20 seeds. To determine the treatment being tested, the data were analyzed using ANOVA. If the treatment had a significant effect, the Least Significant Difference Test was carried out. The results of the study showed that there was no interaction between treatments; an effect of gibberellin concentration on germination power and plant length; and an effect of soaking time on germination power, sprout length, plant length, and number of leaves.
