Abstract

This study observes the linguistic diversity of a community to find out the cultural inheritance for the next generation in Wajo Regency, South Sulawesi. The objectives of this study are to describe the meaning of the kinship system in Bugis society in the marriage custom, second to describe the inheritance system of the perception of To Ugi in Wajo district, South Sulawesi, and third to describe the nickname “To Ugi” in the kinship system. A descriptive qualitative approach was used to investigate data sources by describing the symptoms arising from the meaning of To Ugi in the Bugis Society in Wajo District, Tempe. Research data were collected from observation and interviews with four informants, one of whom was a Wajo traditional leader. The results showed that the Bugis-Wajo kinship system found 10 series of traditional processions, forbidden marriages, the main standards of the family that have to be followed when people enter marriage, and the stages before marrying based on the word assiajingeng. Kinship in Wajo is classified as parental by following the social system of the father and mother or the lineage of both parents. The 2:1 cultural inheritance sharing system between men and women benefits those who do not understand the kinship laws in Wajo Regency. The contribution of this study is that it opens up further opportunities for exploration into the relationship between language, social structure, and the formation of social classes within traditional communities, as well as the potential integration of local wisdom into character education and sustainable development.

Abstract

Abstract The presidential candidate debate in the 2024 election is an interesting concern for the academic community. This is related to the focus of this research, which is to see the perceptions of the academic community towards the style and ethics of debate communication affecting choice preferences. This type of research is descriptive qualitative and data collection is done using survey and interview techniques. The results obtained in this study illustrate the perception that the aggressive-assertive communication style dominates in debate shows, while in communication ethics the elements of honesty-objectivity, respect, and empathy are obtained in the process of the debate. Overall, both communication styles and ethics are still within the limits of relatively reasonable and positive communication. From the aspect of the relevance of the style and ethics of debate communication to the choice of presidential and vice presidential candidates, it shows a significant influence, namely the broadcast of the debate has increased voters' confidence in making their political choices.

Abstract

Industrial revolution provides social media for communicating and sharing with each other. Yet, this study investigates chosen language on social media comments that is to have many improper and impolite languages based on Islamic views. The method uses in this study utilizing systematic review as a development of the qualitative method, which is classifying and interpreting the obtained data. The finding of this study elaborates language used on social media comments divided into improper and impolite language. The result shows us that improper and impolite chosen language on social media indicate that the users are misunderstanding and ignoring Islamic teaching which is already regulated in the holy Quran. This study concludes that Muslim users might understand Islamic views on the language used on social media.
