Abstract

Menggunakan preposisi tempat yang benar tidaklah mudah meskipun bagi mereka yang sudah mendalami bahasa Inggris sejak lama. Untuk mengetahui letak permasalahan tersebut, penelitian ini melibatkan 13 siswa Mapindo jurusan Akomodasi Perhotelan dengan tujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kesalahan yang terjadi dalam penggunaan preposisi tempat dalam bahasa Inggris. 12 soal pilihan ganda terkait penggunaan preposisi tempat in, on, dan at diberikan kepada ketiga belas siswa tersebut. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa siswa tersebut sudah mampu menggunakan preposisi in, on, dan at dengan baik namun terdapat beberapa kendala terkait dengan faktor budaya atau sudut pandang dari masing-masing Bahasa (Indonesia dan Inggris) sehingga diperlukan penekanan khusus dalam memberikan penjelasan terkait hal tersebut. Using preposition of place properly is not an easy thing, even for those who are studying English in depth for a long period of time. To identify the source of the problem, this research involved 13 Mapindo’s students with major in Hotel Accommodation. The research aimed to identify the mistakes which occur in the preposition of place usage. 12 multiple-option questions related to the use of preposition of place in, on, and at were given to the students. The results showed that the students were able to use preposition in, on, and at properly but there were some obstacles related to cultural or point -of-view factors of each language (Indonesian and English), therefore, it requires special attention in explaining the related matter. Abstract

Language is an important aspect of communication, and is a tool for expressing ourself, thoughts and ideas. Currently, people are required to master a foreign language, one of the most widely used languages is English. In mastering English, as well as learning languages in general, it has been divided into five skills, namely speaking, listening, writing, reading, and structure/ grammar. One of the skills discussed in this study is speaking (pronunciation of vowels) in the practice of handling telephone calls. In this study, data collection was collected by using the observation method and the data analyzed in this study were qualitative data. The data was obtained from 20 students of Triatma Mulya University who were taking English course in Post Intermediate Level. Then the data was processed using qualitative descriptive analysis techniques. During the learning process, students experience problems in pronouncing English. This can be seen in the pronunciation of vowel sounds that are not in accordance with the pronunciation standards in English especially vowel pronunciation such as /É”/ which becomes /a/, vowel /É’/ which becomes /o/, /i:/ which becomes /e/, and vowel /u:/ which becomes /o/. In addition to students' English pronunciation, during the learning process several obstacles were also found, such as barriers from linguistic factors, barriers to mastery of content components including topics, content structure, content quality, and content quantity. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana pelafalan bahasa Inggris mahasiswa jurusanAkomodasi Perhotelan Akademi Komunitas Manajemen Perhotelan Indonesia. Serta hambatan apasaja yang dialami.Data kualitatif berupa hasil proses pembelajaran di dalam kelas, berupa pencatatanhasil pengucapan (pronounciation) yang dipakai oleh mahasiswa.Instrumen penelitian (a) catatanharian, (b) renstra, (c) pedoman wawancara, (d) kamera.Metode observasi digunakan untukmemperoleh data penerapan teknik bermain peran. Penelitian ini menggunakan Teknik analisiskualitatif analisis yang terdiri atas komparasi data, verifikasi, dan penyajian data. Mahasiswa selamakegiatan belajar mengajar mengalami masalah serta hambatan dalam berkomunikasi bahasa Inggriskhususnya pada pelafalan. Pelafalan yang dilakukan terjadi akibat masih kuatnya pengaruh bahasa ibuyang dimiliki mahasiswa. Selain itu pemahaman dalam tata bahasa asing mereka juga kurangmemahami.

Abstract

In English, past tense is one of main tenses which is used in daily life. However, mastering it is not a simple matter. This study aims to find out students past tense mastery competence of the second-semester students of Management Business Hospitality of Triatma Mulya University before they get English Intermediate Course which mainly discuss past activities. Their past tense competence can be assessed by identifying the present and the number of errors which made by the students. The data was gathered by asking them to write down five sentences of their past activities. The subject was a class of second semester students of Management Business Hospitality in total of 21 students. The analysis was conducted by applying Ellis’ error categories of omission, misordering, and misinformation on each sentence of the students. Each sentence made by the students was analyzed to find out the present of each error category. The finding showed that the students had an insufficient competence in using past tense, in which, the major error was in form of misinformation error where the students tended to use present form instead of past form in retelling their past activities. The omission and misordering errors were the minor errors and not as significant as the misinformation error. Keywords: Past Tense Mastery, Competence, Omission, Misordering, Misinformation.

Abstract

Bali selalu berupaya untuk berbenah diri dalam aspek kepariwisataan khususnya pada fasilitas akomodasi dan pelayanan kepada wisatawan. Komunikasi adalah salah satu faktor paling menentukan di dalam penentuan kualitas pelayanan. Fenomena tersebut menuntut para lulusan di lembaga pendidikan dan pelatihan perhotelan dan pariwisata untuk memiliki kemampuan berkomunikasi yang baik dalam bahasa Inggris. Pada penelitian ini, peneliti mengangkat peserta didik Jurusan Kantor Depan PPLP MAPINDO sebagai objek penelitian. Terdapat dua hal yang dikaji dalam penelitian ini, yaitu; permasalahan yang dihadapi mahasiswa dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris dari segi pelafalan(pronounciation), dan faktor-faktor yang menghambat mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran berbicara. Dalam penelitian ini diperoleh bahwa mahasiswa mengalami permasalahan selama proses pembelajaran dalam hal pelafalan bahasa Inggris, yaitu masih besarnya unsur bahasa pertama atau bahasa ibu yang memengaruhi pembelajaran bahasa kedua atau asing. Di samping itu, terdapat beberapa faktor penghambat mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran berbicara. Faktor-faktor tersebut adalah penguasaan komponen kebahasaan, dan penguasaan komponen isi, serta kondisi lingkungan yang kurang efektif selama proses belajar mengajar berlangsung. Abstract

Berwisata menjadi salah satu kebutuhan sekunder yang tidak bisa lepas dari kehidupan masyarakat pada umumnya, dan Bali menjadi salah satu tujuan wisata yang diminati masyarakat lokal dan global. Pemandu wisata merupakan salah satu pekerjaan yang bergerak dibibidang pariwisat a, seorang pemandu wisata dituntut untuk memiliki keahlian komunikasi yang baik. Salah satu untur penting dalam komunikasi adalah bahasa yang berperan penting sebagai sarana untuk menyampaikan informasi kepada orang lain. Penerapan tuturan yang baik menjadi dasar untuk memberikan informasi serta pelayanan dalam hal komunikasi. Dalam Penelitian ini penulis melibatkan 9 orang siswa jurusan Usaha Perjalanan Wisata sebagai sampel. Dimana peneliti berfokus kepada tuturan yang dituturkan serta faktor-faktor yang menjadi penghambat komunikasi selama praktek memandu wisata. Selama praktek siswa memakai beberapa tuturan seperti tuturan langsung literal deskriptif, langsung literal imperative, langsung literal introgatif, dan tuturan tidak langsung literal. Adapun beberapa faktor penghambat selama proses praktek memandu wisata adalah faktor kebahasaan, faktor kompenen isi serta lingkungan sekitar selama praktek memandu wisata. Abstract

Development of coastal tourism by empowering fishing communities in Badung is one form of development that aims to make fishing communities as local genius of coastal areas. It can directly give benefit to the development of tourism in this area. The model of empowerment of fishing communities which is developed in coastal tourism uses several strategies, namely traditional, direct action, and transformation. The development of coastal tourism with the empowerment of fishing communities is expected to have a positive impact on the economy and socio-culture of fishing communities. Economic impacts can be seen from the direct opinions received by fishing communities from their direct involvement in the development of tourism villages. Whereas the socio-cultural impacts that are felt by the fishing community derives from direct interaction with tourists, such as the fishing community knowing the habits of tourists, using technology and the ability to communicate using foreign languages.Key words : tourism villages, empowerment, economy and socio-culture

Abstract

The history and culture of Bali has become an additional value for the development of Bali tourism. In addition to natural beauty such as the sea and mountains, local wisdom which is still upheld by the people of Bali makes Bali a special place for the tourists who are visiting Bali Island. Tourism in Bali is one of the economic sectors that the Balinese people are most involved in. One of the jobs in the tourism sector that many Balinese people are involved in is a tour guide. Good communication skills are very necessary for tourism workers, one of the languages which is commonly used is English. The application of the principle/maxims of quantity in the utterances of tour guides is the subject of study in this study. The research objects in this study were 21 diploma students majoring in tour and travel department at Triatma Mulya University. This research is a qualitative research that analyzes the application of the maxims/principles of quantity in students' utterances while explaining tourist objects. The data obtained will be sorted and processed based on pragmatic theory and then it would be presented descriptively. During the explanation of tourist objects, students have applied the principle of quantity in several utterances that are spoken. However, some of the students' speeches did not apply the principle/maxim of quantity. This happened because in processing utterances students were mostly influenced by internal factors such as the language factor that is possessed by students were still limited and the mastery of content components. Students' unpreparedness during practice is one of the inhibiting factors for students to apply the principle/maxims of quantity to their utterances.Keywords: communication, tour guide, pragmatic, speech, maxim of quantity

Abstract

Bali is always trying to improve itself in aspects of tourism especially in accommodation and services. In terms of service to tourists, communication is one of the most decisive factors. It encourages workers in tourism sector to have good communication skills, especially communication in English. This phenomenon requires the graduates in education and training institutions of hospitality and tourism to have good communication skills, especially communication in English.In this study, researcher raised the students of STIPAR Triatma Jaya joring in Management Business Hospitality as an object of research. The analysis in this study was made to answer the following questions: (1) the problems faced by students in speaking English in terms of speech act (pragmatic), and (2) to find some factors inhibiting students in learning to speak.This researchshowed that students majoring in Management Business Hospitality, experienced problems during the lesson especially in communicate English pronunciation, word selections and the using of English grammar. It is still influenced by the magnitude of the first language or mother tongue. Some factors have limited the students in speaking English, those factors are: components of linguistic mastery, and mastery of the content component, and environmental conditions during the learning process for example, the conditions where there was a little open space in the class room resulting the inclusion of sounds that interfere the process of learning.
