Abstract

Hypertension is still a health problem that is quite high from all reported non-communicable diseases. Hypertension will cause complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney failure if hypertensive patients have poor self-care. The sample used was hypertensive clients who took prolanis at the Patebon 02 health center with a total of 30 respondents as a peer group support group and 30 respondents as a control group. The sampling technique used was total sampling. Statistical test using Wilcoxon and Chi Square. The activity was conducted on October 20, 2024, involving approximately 78 Muslim women participants. The methods used included health education, demonstration, and guided practice of murotal therapy. The results showed that participants were able to understand the benefits of murotal therapy and demonstrated enthusiasm in practicing the therapy independently. Participants also reported feeling more relaxed and experiencing improved sleep quality after the intervention. This community service activity concluded that murotal therapy can be applied as a complementary intervention to help prevent stress and reduce insomnia among Muslim women.

Abstract

Hospitalization can be an anxiety-provoking experience for preschool children due to unfamiliar hospital environments, medical procedures, and separation from parents. If not appropriately managed, anxiety may affect children’s comfort, emotional adaptation, and cooperation during the care process. Therefore, applicable non-pharmacological nursing interventions are required, one of which is coloring play therapy. This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of coloring play therapy in helping reduce anxiety levels among hospitalized preschool children. A pre-experimental design with a descriptive applied approach was used, consistent with the characteristics of vocational nursing education (Diploma in Nursing). The participants consisted of 15 hospitalized children aged 3–6 years. Anxiety levels were assessed using the Face Image Scale (FIS) before and after a single session of coloring play therapy lasting 15–30 minutes. The results showed that prior to the intervention, all participants experienced moderate to severe anxiety, with 9 children (60.0%) classified as having severe anxiety and 6 children (40.0%) moderate anxiety. Following the implementation of coloring play therapy, a clinical reduction in anxiety was observed, indicated by the absence of severe anxiety and a shift toward milder anxiety categories, where 12 children (80.0%) were classified as very not anxious, not anxious, or mildly anxious. Conclusion: Coloring play therapy can be applied as a clinically effective non-pharmacological nursing intervention to help reduce anxiety among hospitalized preschool children and support practice-based pediatric nursing care.

Abstract

Depression is one of the most common mental health problems experienced by inmates in correctional institutions due to psychological stress, limited freedom, and lack of social support. This condition can affect inmates’ psychological well-being and hinder the rehabilitation process if not properly identified and managed. This study aimed to determine the level of depression among inmates at Class II A Correctional Institution in Kendal. A quantitative descriptive research design was employed in this study. The population consisted of all inmates at the Class II A Correctional Institution in Kendal, with a total of 73 respondents selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a standardized depression questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics by calculating frequency distribution and percentage to describe the depression levels of the respondents. The results showed that the majority of inmates experienced severe depression, with 51 respondents (69.9%) classified as having severe depression and 22 respondents (30.1%) classified as having mild depression. These findings indicate that the prevalence of severe depression among inmates at Class II A Correctional Institution in Kendal is high and represents a significant mental health concern. The high level of severe depression suggests that inmates face considerable psychological burdens that may affect their psychosocial functioning and participation in rehabilitation programs. In conclusion, most inmates at Class II A Correctional Institution in Kendal experience severe depression, highlighting the need for enhanced mental health services, including regular depression screening, psychological counseling, and programs that promote psychological well-being among inmates.
