Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out how the philosophical foundations of education view student character education. As an educational institution, schools are not only tasked with educating students and creating a good learning environment, but are also expected to develop good character in students. If in relation to learning, national education must be accessible to students, then schools must also be able to shape students' characters better. We know that students are great imitators of adults, positive attitudes, let alone negative attitudes, are easy for students to imitate. Therefore, teachers must always show good character to their students, and the nation's prospective students are expected to have good character in addition to cognitive intelligence. The research method uses a library research approach, where previous research is summarized from library sources, documents and scientific journals. The information collected is analyzed to achieve in-depth understanding through library research by processing and collecting various types of secondary data from the surrounding environment. This philosophical foundation becomes a guideline that guides the creation of a comprehensive character education program, including ontological, epistemological and axiological aspects. The philosophical foundation thus not only provides a conceptual basis, but also a practical basis that guides the implementation of character education.

Abstract

The philosophy of education provides a theoretical foundation for integrating traditional moral, ethical, and cultural values with the demands of innovation in the digital age. Educational technologies, such as online learning and artificial intelligence, offer excellent opportunities to expand access to learning and improve efficiency. However, reliance on technology may reduce education's personal and emotional aspects. This research aims to discuss the role of educational philosophy in bridging the balance between tradition and innovation in the era of rapidly developing technology. The method used is descriptive qualitative research with a literature study approach. The study results show that educational philosophy plays a vital role in maintaining the relevance of traditional education through the wise utilization of technology. One example of the application of this concept is blended learning, which allows technology to complement learning without eliminating direct interaction between teachers and students. In addition, educational philosophy emphasizes the importance of character development, social responsibility, and morality of students as essential aspects of education. This research concludes that the integration of tradition and technology must be balanced so that innovation does not come at the expense of the fundamental values of education. With educational philosophy as a guide, technology can enrich the learning process holistically while maintaining a balance between technological efficiency and humanist values.

Abstract

The aims of this study were to find out: 1) the extent to which students' competence in past tense sentences, and 2) the significant effect of using folklore on students' competence in past tense sentences in semester 2 students majoring in accounting. program of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Buana Perjuangan University, Karawang. This research method is a quantitative method. Researchers collected data by using a written test. Samples were taken using a random sampling technique of 35 students. The data were then analyzed using descriptive and inferential analysis, namely the t-test formula by Arikunto. The results of this study were that the average score of students' competence in past tense sentences before using folklore was 51.5 which was categorized as "less", then after using folklore it was 72, 37 are categorized as "good". The results of testing the hypothesis show that the t-test is higher than the t-table (17 > 2.04), meaning that the hypothesis is accepted. The results of the study revealed that there was a significant effect of the use of folklore on student competence in past tense sentences in semester 2 students of the accounting study program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Buana Perjuangan University, Karawang.

Abstract

Students' low initial reading ability often hinders their learning. Therefore, it is important to know the extent of students' early reading abilities so that any problems that arise can be addressed early on. This study aims to describe the initial reading abilities of first-grade students. Using a qualitative descriptive method, this study involved 60 students from two schools, as well as two first-grade teachers, to gain insight into the factors that hinder students' initial reading abilities in first grade. The initial reading test used the Early Grade Reading Skill Assessment (EGRA) instrument. The results showed that 80% of students still needed guidance, 12% of students were in the good category, and 8% were in the sufficient category. Based on the EGRA assessment indicators, the highest percentage was in letter recognition ability at 43%, while reading comprehension was the lowest at 8%. Other indicators included reading syllables at 34%, reading words at 28%, listening at 29%, and fluency at 19%. The factors causing low reading skills included students' low interest and motivation to read, insufficiently varied teaching strategies and media, a lack of facilities and infrastructure for reading instruction, and the role and support of parents at home. The implication of this research is to determine students' initial reading abilities and their contributing factors, so that strategic steps can be taken to address the low initial reading skills of elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mathematical connection ability of fifth-grade elementary school students in understanding fraction concepts. Mathematical connection ability is one of the essential aspects that should be developed from the elementary education level, as it enables students to recognize relationships among mathematical concepts and apply them meaningfully in real-life situations. The research employed a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through a mathematical connection ability test, observations, and interviews. The test instrument was developed based on three main indicators of mathematical connection ability proposed by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), namely: (1) the ability to connect mathematical concepts, (2) the ability to connect multiple mathematical representations, and (3) the ability to connect mathematical concepts to real-life situations. The research subjects consisted of 30 fifth-grade students from a public elementary school in Garut Regency. The results indicate that the indicator of connecting mathematical concepts achieved the highest percentage at 68.7% (moderate category), followed by the indicator of connecting representations at 65.4% (moderate category), while the indicator of connecting mathematics to everyday life reached only 42.1% (low category). These findings suggest that students are generally able to identify relationships among mathematical concepts but still experience difficulties in applying these concepts to real-life contexts. Therefore, more in-depth instructional reinforcement is required to help students develop a more meaningful and applicable understanding of the mathematical concepts they learn.
