Abstract

Abstract   The incidence of respiratory arrest and cardiac arrest in the community is closely related to the epidemiology of heart disease. According to data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health in 2024, the prevalence of heart disease in Indonesia is 17 per 1000 people, increasing the risk of unpredictable occurrences of cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest. Adolescents, as members of both family and community, must possess basic skills in providing basic life support (BLS) to reduce the risk of death complications due to heart disease. The objectives of the BLS training conducted at SMA Al-Fityan Medan are to (1) provide health education on heart disease to adolescents, (2) teach adolescents their role in daily life to reduce the risk of heart disease from an early age, and (3) provide BLS training to adolescents. This community service activity (PKM) includes health education and a BLS demonstration. The training proved beneficial, with a significant increase in participants' knowledge, as evidenced by comparing pre-test and post-test results (p<.000). Participants were also able to effectively perform BLS after the training. Education on heart disease and BLS training for adolescents is essential in preventing heart disease and its complications. Abstract

This community service project aims to enhance emergency handling competencies through Basic Trauma Cardiac Life Support (BTCLS) training at Akademi Keperawatan KESDAM Siantar. The activity was implemented using a participatory and intensive simulation-based approach that integrated theoretical instruction with practical field exercises over a six-day period. Evaluations conducted through pre-test and post-test assessments revealed an average knowledge score increase from 45.5 to 85.5 (an improvement of 87.91%) and an average skill score of 85. The utilization of resuscitation manikins and realistic emergency simulations significantly improved participants’ response speed and accuracy in critical situations. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of simulation-based training in enhancing emergency response quality, as well as boosting the confidence and professionalism of healthcare personnel. The contributions of this project to the advancement of nursing education serve as a benchmark for other institutions aiming to implement similar training programs to address modern challenges Keywords: BTCLS, Training, Service, Competence, Nursing

Abstract

The community service project aimed to enhance the mental resilience of workers facing emergency situations through a participatory hypnotherapy intervention conducted on October 22, 2024, at an outdoor hotel in North Sumatra. The project integrated orientation sessions, group hypnotherapy, and reflective discussions without formal measurement instruments, resulting in qualitative data that revealed significant improvements in relaxation, self-awareness, anxiety reduction, and social support. These findings not only confirm the effectiveness of hypnotherapy in managing work-related stress but also hold promise for advancing educational practices by incorporating stress management strategies into academic curricula and training programs.
