Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Teeth restored prefabricated post crown show lower resistance to root fracture compared to with vital teeth. Vital teeth are having the highest resistance followed by prefabricated fibre resin postand prefabricated stainless steel post. The metal post higher has mechanical properties such as its high elastic modulus rather than a nonmetallic post which affect the impact strength of the material. The impact strength is defined as the energy required to break material with impact force. This study was aimed to determine the difference between the impact strength of prefabricated resin fibre post crown and prefabricated titanium fibre post crown Methods: Six obturated mandibular premolars with prefabricated fibre resin post were divided into two groups: group I was given a prefabricated fibre resin post (n = 3); group II was given a prefabricated titanium post (n = 3). They were all then filled with build-up core composite material. All groups were planted in an iron rectangular block. Furthermore, the impact test was performed using a mini impact tester (KRY type) until all samples broken. Results: The average impact strength of the post crown with prefabricated resin fiber material was 1.9267 ± 0.99203 J/mm2, while prefabricated titanium was 5.7567 ± 0.41477 J/mm2. Independent sample t test shows there were differences in all groups. Conclusion: The impact strength of prefabricated resin fibre post crown was lower than the impact strength of the prefabricated titanium post crown. Keywords: Impact strength, prefabricated post resin fiber, prefabricated post titanium.

Abstract

Calcium and magnesium are the important nutrients especially for bone and teeth growth. Cow’s milk has a high calcium, but some people cannot consume it. Soy milk as a cow’s milk alternative has a low calcium, so it might be combined with green mussel shell flour which has a high calcium. To compare diet cow’s milk, soy milk, and combination diet soy milk with green mussel shell flour to increase length of arch. Thirty two 3 weeks old male wistar rats, each weighting between 50-80 grams. This research used post test only control group design. They were randomly divided into 4 groups. K1 group was given aquadest personde 0,0225ml/gBB/day. K2 group was given cow’s milk personde 0,0225ml/gBB/day. K3 group was given soy milk personde 0,0225ml/gBB/day. K4 group was given soy milk personde 0,0225ml/gBB/day with 0,04mg/gBB green mussel shell flour. After 8 weeks, all rats were killed, took their mandible, and and measuredlength of arch by cephalometry analysis. Data was analyzed using one way Anova (p=0,05) showed significant increasing of the length of arch by cephalometry analysis compare to control group.0,00 (p>0,05). Conclusion: Combination of green mussel shell flour with soy milk has proved to increase length of arch by cephalometry analysis in mandible growth.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Heat-cured acrylic resin is one of the most widely used denture bases. Patients need to keep the removable dentures clean in order for them to have no adverse impacts. Natural ingredients, such as Anonna muricata L., are known for their benefits and can be used as a denture cleanser, but their effect towards mechanical properties needs to be studied. The objective of this study is to analyze the role of Anonna muricata L. effervescent extract with various concentrations (25, 35, and 45%) on the transversal strength of heat-cured acrylic resin. Methods: The samples were twenty eight heat-cured acrylic resin plates with a size of 65x10x2.5 mm randomly divided into four groups. The control group (immersed in distilled water), the 25, 35, and 45%, were immersed for fifteen minutes three times a day for ten days. The transversal strength was measured by the Universal Testing Machine (Shimadzu) loaded at 1kN with a constant control rate of 1 mm/min and analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis. Results: The average transversal strength of the control group was 118.59 MPa, followed by 25% with 114.35 MPa, 35% with 117.28 MPa, and 45% with 111.32 MPa. Based on Kruskal-Wallis, there were no significant differences with a significant value p>0.05 (p=0.886). Conclusion: The immersion of heat-cured acrylic resin in the extract of Anonna muricata L. effervescent does not affect the transversal strength of the material.

Abstract

Background: Acanthus ilicifolius L. has antifungal potential and makes it possible to be a candidate for denture cleanser. This study aims to evaluate the effect of effervescent Acanthus ilicifolius L. extract on antifungal properties and flexural strength acrylic after immersion for three duration times.Method: Extracts were made by maceration method with ethanol. For the antifungal test, effervescent Acanthus ilicifolius L extract was prepared by combining the Acanthus ilicifolius L extract 4% and sodium perborate with two ratios, 1:7 and 1:14. The microdilution method was carried out. Effervescent Acanthus ilicifolius L extract 4% with ratio 1:7 was prepared for the flexural strength test. The fifty-four heat-cured acrylic resin (20x10x2.5mm) were fabricated and divided into 3 groups. Group 1 was immersed in aquadest (control); Group 2 was immersed in sodium perborate; Group 3 was immersed in effervescent Acanthous ilicifolius L. extract. Each group was immersed for 15 min, 8, and 56 hours (n=6). The flexural strength test was performed using Universal Testing Machine.Result: Effervescent Acanthus ilicifolius L. extract exhibited antifungal activity which increased in an effervescent Acanthus ilicifolius L extract-dependent manner significantly (0.57 to 0.50 OD). There were no significant differences between sodium perborate, effervescent_AI1 (1:7) and effervescent_AI2 (1:14). The flexural strength was found to be within the range of 66.1 - 68.3 MPa. There were no significant differences between groups (p < 0.05).Conclusion: Effervescent Acanthus ilicifolius L extract with the ratios 1:7 had a good antifungal effect and appropriate flexural strength after immersion for 15 min, 8, and 56 hours.
