Abstract

The aimed of this research was to know the causes of pronunciation errors made by the students and whether the method of learning English prounciation using song can improve the student’s pronouncing English words at SMAN 8 Bengkulu. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive. The informants in this research were students from X IPS 1 Data collection is done by interview and quistionnaire. The data obtained were analyzed by reduction of data, presentation of data, and drawing conclusions.The research results show that most of studens of X IPS 1 more interested and understanding if learning English pronunciation using songs because they can follow a native speaker to say English words correctly. The causes error of their English pronunciation is a lack of their confidence when they speaking English and the media can also be an easy or difficult factor for students to learning English pronunciation. It can be concluded that is the right media for students English pronunciation.

Abstract

The academic world requires English language skills to lead students to understand science that continues to develop to improve quality human resources in facing globalization competition. English proficiency is one of the places for developing human resource evaluations that must be managed interactively and professionally. English proficiency is one of the places for developing human resource evaluations that must be managed interactively and professionally. Learning and modules are two things that complement each other. Learning will take place effectively equipped with learning media. Therefore, it is very necessary to produce a product of teaching materials in the form of modules that are not only intellectual but also can create students to be more creative and innovative. The development of learning modules used ADDIE development. ADDIE has a five-stage model development among others : Analyze (Analyze), Design (Design), Develop (Develop), Implement (Apply), and Evaluate (Evaluate). The assessment of learning modules for material experts was divided into 4 aspects. The results of the assessment of each aspect showed the different average score. In the Feasibility of contents, the average score was 3.7, it means it was "Feasible" .Linguistic component aspect had score of 3.4, it was in "Feasible" category. The aspect of the assessment component obtained an average score of 3.1 that means it was in "Feasible" category. Meanwhile, in graphic component aspect, it was obtained 3.6 which that it was in "Feasible" category. The results of the material expert assessment showed total average score of 3.45 out of a maximum score of 4. Based on the feasibility category of the English learning module, the module was included in the "Feasible" category.

Abstract

In the current era of globalization which is full of challenges and competition, not only high level of education, but everyone is required to have special skills. One of the skill that medical record students must possess is English. This of course makes many students find it difficult to meet the standard of TOEFL score because lack of understanding in English by some students. Through TOEFL training, participants will get listening, writing, and reading tests. The method used in this community service is a descriptive method through a qualitative approach. This method was chosen because it presents data systematically and accurately regarding the facts in the field. Based on the data, it shows that more than 50%, namely 87.5% (21 students) have a TOEFL score above the criteria, which is 425 indicating that there is an increase in the TOEFL score after the training.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of using podcasts to improve students' listening skills at SMAN 4 Bengkulu. The researcher applied the pre-experimental method with one group pre-test and post-test treatment which was carried out in four meetings. The population in this study were Second Grade students of SMAN 4 Bengkulu. The researcher used purposive sampling technique. The sample of this research is 999 students. The instrument used to collect data was a multiple-choice listening test and filling out a blank form consisting of 20 numbers. The data of this study were analyzed quantitatively using IBM SPSS 26. The average score of the students on the post-test was higher than the average score on the pre-test (79.29 >36.07). The researcher found that the significant value was 0.000, and the alpha was 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). It can be concluded that the researcher's hypothesis (tt) is accepted, and the null hypothesis (t0) is rejected. The researcher concludes that podcasts are effective in improving students' listening skills.

Abstract

The objectives of the study emphasize on finding out the students` perception on the use of several tools in English Speaking class to support the English speaking learning activities, the positive and negative values that could engage students in English speaking learning during the pandemic. The study was a descriptive study that involved 30 students in Faculty of Law in University of Prof. Hazairin, SH. The data was collected through a questionnaire, online observation and interview.  The findings of the study stated that students showed positive perception toward the use of several tools in English speaking class. They believed that offline dictionaries, Video blogging, Instagram, YouTube could support and motivate them more in their English speaking classes. The findings also discovered some values related to the study. They showed positive values in accepting the modernization, practicality, and portability of using Offline dictionary, Video blogging, Instagram, YouTube and Zoom. Abstract

Workshop Penulisan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas Bagi Guru SMAN I Kota Bengkulu dalam kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk: (1) Meningkatkan pemahaman guru SMAN 1, dan (2) Meningkatkan kemampuan guru dalam menulis penelitian dan proposal PTK. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah metode ceramah dan demonstrasi. Metode ceramah adalah menyampaikan prinsip PTK, prosedur, pelaksanaan PTK, dan tata cara penulisan laporan PTK, sedangkan metode demonstrasi adalah memberikan kesempatan latihan kepada peserta untuk berlatih mulai dari menyusun masalah dalam proses pembelajaran yang dapat diselesaikan melalui PTK, usulan PTK desain, dan penulisan laporan PTK. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat secara keseluruhan dapat dinilai cukup baik, dilihat dari keberhasilan target jumlah peserta pelatihan dinilai cukup baik (61,1%), pencapaian tujuan pelatihan dinilai kurang baik (40,9%), ketercapaian materi target yang telah direncanakan dinilai baik (80%), dan kemampuan peserta dalam penguasaan materi dinilai baik (80%). Disimpulkan, dari workshop ini juga guru mampu menghasilkan draft penelitian dan artikel yang akan dapat dipublikasikan sehingga berguna untuk menambah angka kredit dan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis.

Abstract

Tidak ada salahnya untuk melakukan investasi pada diri sendiri dengan mengikuti pelatihan Bahasa Inggris karyawan. Terutama di tengah persaingan bisnis yang semakin ketat. Namun bisa menjadi nilai tambah pribadi, tetapi juga aset yang berharga untuk sebuah perusahaan. Workshop Bahasa Inggris Bagi Pegawai dan Karyawan Kemenkumham (Kementrian Hukum dan Hak Azazi Manuasia) Kantor Wilayah Bengkulu Kota Bengkulu dalam kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk membantu melatih meningkatkan kompetensi sumber daya manuasia dalam keterampilan Bahasa Inggris yang terintegrasi yaitu mendengar (listening), membaca (reading), menulis (writing) dan berbicara (Speaking) dengan baik. Berdasarkan hasil analisis situasi, pemahaman dan penguasaan bahasa Inggris Bagi karyawan/pegawai Kemenkumham Kanwil Bengkulu masih perlu ditingkatkan. Oleh karena itu perlu dilakukan upaya untuk menumbuhkan dan meningkatkan kesadaran mereka untuk belajar Bahasa Inggris di luar jam kantor. Dengan upaya ini diharapkan mereka dapat meningkatkan kemampuan dan minat mereka dalam bahasa inggris. Pelatihan Bahasa Inggris yang dilakukan sudah berhasil dengan baik. Hal ini bisa dilihat dari antusiasme mereka untuk mengikuti program pengabdian ini. Kehadiran mereka mencapai 98%. Dan dari hasil evaluasi belajar terlihat bahwa mereka sudah menunjukkan peningkatan kemampuan bahasa Inggris mereka pada keempat skill yaitu listening, reading, speaking dan writing . Metode yang digunakan pada kegiatan pengabdian ini terdiri atas 3 tahapan yaitu persiapan, pelaksanaan dan evaluasi. Prosedur kegiatan ini adalah pembukaan, melakukan pre-test, pemberian materi listening, pemberian materi reading, pemberian materi speaking, pemberian materi structure serta melakukan post- test. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah Pegawai dan Karyawan Kemenkumham (Kementrian Hukum dan Hak Azazi Manuasia) Kantor Wilayah Bengkulu Kota Bengkulu menyadari akan pentingnya mempelajari Bahasa Inggris selain memenuhi tuntutan pekerjaan mereka yang berhubungan dengan turis nasional atau asing, mereka juga mampu bersaing di era globalisasi dan post modern 5.0.

Abstract

Generally, the purpose of  this research was to improve the writing learning process, namely how to implement English descriptive writing teaching using brainstorming techniques in the English Language Education Study Program, Prof. University. Dr. Hazairin S.H involving lecturers and students. Furthermore, the specific technique of this research aims to describe the use of brainstorming in writing descriptive English teaching and to found out the results of descriptive writing produced by students after using this brainstorming technique. This research was mixed research (mixed methods) with an Action Research design, where qualitative data mining will first be carried out to explore in depth how Brainstorming techniques can be applied in improving students' descriptive writing skills. Then proceed with quantitative data collection. The research results showed that there was an increase in students' English descriptive writing skills. This can be seen from the increase in scores from the pre test, Post test cycle I, and post test cycle II. The students' average score increased from 68.54 in the first cycle post test to 73.00 in the second cycle post test. From these results it can be concluded that the brainstorming technique is effective in improving students' English descriptive writing skills.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi atas kondisi nyata di lapangan, melalui wawancara awal dengan siswa yang membuktikan bahwa kemampuan atau keterampilan menulis belum sepenuhnya dikuasai oleh siswa. Berdasarkan wawancara awal dengan guru kelas VIII A SMPN 9 Tanjung Jabung Timur, guru mengeluhkan metode dan model yang tepat untuk untuk membantu siswa meningkatkan kemampuan menulis. Salah satunya guru belum mengetahui penggunaan model Explicit Instruction (Trianto, 2011), Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) mendeskripsikan penggunaan model Explicit Instruction oleh guru, agar dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis puisi nasehat siswa kelas VIII,A pada kurikulum merdeka SMPN 9 Tanjung Jabung Timur. (2) untuk menjelaskan penggunaan model Explicit Instruction mampu meningkatkan kemampuan siswa kelas VIII.A SMPN 9 Tanjung Jabung Timur dalam menulis puisi Nasehat. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas (classroom action research) yang berisi tindakan-tindakan yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kualitas suatu sistem dan praktik-praktik yang ada dalam sistem tersebutPenelitian ini dilaksanakan menggunakan tiga siklus. Siklus satu dan dua terdiri dari 3 kali pertemuan, dan siklus ketiga terdiri dari 2 kali pertemuan. Hasil kongkrit penelitian ini dapat dilihat pada pelaksanaan tindakan dari setiap siklus. Tindakan yang dilakukan oleh guru sehingga penggunaan Model Explicit Instruction dapat berhasil yaitu Fase 1: guru bertanya tentang pengalaman siswa yang menyenangkan dan melakukan tanya jawab sebagai cara menstimulus pengetahuan awal siswa serta menyampaikan SK/KD dan tujuan pembelajaran. Fase 2: guru mendemonstrasikan cara menulis puisi meliputi unsur diksi, gaya bahasa, imajinasi, rima dan tema menggunakan slide yang ditayangkan melalui proyektor. Fase 3: membimbing latihan, sebelumnya guru membentuk siswa dalam beberapa kelompok yang terdiri atas 3-4 orang. Tahap latihan terbimbing adalah tahap penting dalam usaha guru membantu siswa menguasai kemampuan menulis. Di tahap ini guru berusaha membuat pembelajaran yang bermakna dan menarik dengan dibantu garis-garis puisi dan media pohon puisi. Keberhasilan artikel Jurnal juga sangat tergantung kepada kemampuan guru dalam menggunakan metode, model pembelajaran, dan segala media pembelajaran yang ada. Selama berlangsung latihan terbimbing guru ikut serta membantu siswa membuat puisi menghampiri semua kelompok yang ada. Fase 4: mengecek pemahaman siswa dengan meminta perwakilan kelompok menulis puisi di depan kelas sedangkan kelompok yang lain menilai pada kertas format penilaian yang telah diberikan oleh guru. Serta guru melakukan tanya jawab sebagai umpan balik dan membuat kesimpulan.
