In every piece of writing, cohesive devices play an important role in interconnecting the writer's ideas in such a way so that they are logically unified and coherent. However, employing cohesive devices in scientific articles is not always easy for authors who learn English as a foreign language, like Indonesians as well as their Asian counterparts. This current study attempts to look into the compared uses of cohesive devices in English scientific articles written by three different groups, namely Indonesian, Malaysian, and Native English speakers. The data on cohesive devices were collected from articles written in English by different Indonesian writers and from articles written by different Native English authors published in several international journals. The data analysis was carried out quantitatively by identifying and classifying them based on the taxonomy proposed by Halliday and Matthiessen. Descriptive statistics and One-Way ANOVA were also employed in this study. This study revealed that native and non-native writers employed different patterns of cohesive devices. Although Indonesian and Malaysian represent similar distribution patterns at the relatively equivalent level of English proficiency, it does not determine a completely general pattern of cohesive distribution in the reality of writing practice.

Critical reading is a hot issue nowadays. Students in all levels, especially in tertiary education are pursuing the need of critical reading especially in English reading test. However, it is not an easy job for the students when they are asked to complete the reading task focusing on critical reading. Many students get confused, trapped in the distractor or even get frustrated when they cannot answer the questions. Collaborative strategic reading is one of the strategy in teaching reading which is hypothesized to be able to help the students in answering questions in critical reading tests. This research used quasi-experimental design with quantitative approach. To collect the data, the researcher used research instrument in form of test. The result of the study revealed that the significant value is 0.000 which was smaller than the significant level (0.050). It could be concluded that using collaborative strategic reading (CSR) strategy was effective to increase the students’ critical reading achievement at English education department at IAIN Tulungagung. It is suggested that collaborative strategic reading (CSR) strategy can be used as alternative strategy for English teachers in teaching and learning critical reading text.

This study aims to determine the values of Islamic education in the book of Bidayatul Hidayah and how it is applied in the Integrated Islamic School 2 Daarussalam Sangatta Utara. Applying qualitative methods with a descriptive approach. The result of this research is that Bidayatul Hidayah teaches that obedience to Allah through good deeds and worship is a way to get closer to Him. Acts of courtesy in daily life are practical means to achieve this. In addition, moral values also emphasize the importance of avoiding sin by guarding the limbs and heart from actions that violate religious norms. In the context of relationships, the Book teaches that man's relationship with God is an inseparable aspect of human relationships. Moral education at SDIT 2 Darussalam uses this book as an advanced reference after the BPI module. Discipline, cooperation, and concern for others characterize students at the school. Challenges in its implementation are changes in the social environment, technology, and culture, thus requiring learning strategies that can maintain the relevance of moral values. Collaboration with parents is also a focus to ensure the values are applied consistently in the educational and home environment. Thus, the application of moral values at SDIT Dua Darussalam makes a significant contribution in shaping students' character holistically.

The purpose of this research is to determine whether or not seventh graders at SMPN 1 Sumbergempol can improve their descriptive writing skills by using online memes. In this quantitative study, the researcher used a quasi-experimental strategy. The results showed that the experimental group averaged 79.00 points whereas the control group averaged 70.81. In addition, the findings (Sig 2-tailed) demonstrated a 0.000 significant value. The significance level (0.000 < 0.05) is lower than the significant value (Sig 2-tailed). We may conclude that the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) is correct and reject the Null Hypothesis (H0) based on the findings of the significance value (Sig 2-tailed). The results show that seventh graders at SMPN 1 Sumbergempol benefit significantly from using Internet memes to improve their descriptive writing skills. It can be concluded that internet Memes enable the students getting the ideas and lead them to the objects being described. Through the application of this media, students can easily create descriptive text based on images.
