Abstract

The research is derived from the politeness issue happened during teaching and learning process in the research location. The researcher found out that the students showed lack of awareness on communicating and interacting politely and formally to the teacher. This research aimed to find out the types of politeness strategies of students at SMA Negeri 1 Tinambung in learning process. The researcher applied qualitative research in order to know the students’ politeness strategies. The researcher focused on the students' 12 th-grade science at SMA Negeri 1 Tinambung. The subject of research consisted of 30–35 students from XII MIA 1 and one English teacher. The researcher did classroom observation who used politeness strategies in the classroom. In doing the classroom observation, the researcher took video to record all the activities in the classroom to see the types of politeness strategies based on Brown and Levison’s theory of Politeness Strategies. The researcher found that politeness strategies appeared in the learning process, they were positive politeness strategies. Positive politeness strategies happened to minimize the distance between the teacher and the students.

Abstract

Rapid social and technological change, which has changed the way of social interaction and communication between generations. Generation Z, who grew up in the digital era, is often more exposed to global values and different cultures through social media and the internet.  The modesty crisis is being experienced by most of generation Z. This fact arouses researchers' curiosity to solve this problem. This research is R&D research using the ADDIE design. Researchers designed and developed syllabi, lesson plans and teaching materials about character and included them in the Aqidah Akhlak course. These products are implemented on one campus. After that, researchers evaluated product use through questionnaires and tests. The subjects in this research are generation Z. The research results are valid, practical and effective in reintroducing and instilling good manners in students. The implications of this research are The findings of this research can encourage the development of a curriculum that is more integrated with etiquette values, so that schools and educational institutions can teach ethics and manners more effectively. The aim of research on Instructional Materials for Manners due to the Politeness Crisis in Gen-Z is to identify and understand the factors that cause a decline in politeness among the younger generation and develop effective learning materials to overcome this problem.

Abstract

Augmented Reality atau AR merupakan teknologi yang menggabungkan digital konten yang dibuat oleh komputer dengan dunia nyata secara realtime. Teknologi ini menggunakan webcam komputer, kamera, bahkan kacamata khusus yang mampu menyisipkan informasi kedalam dunia maya dan memproyeksikan ke dunia nyata.Dalam kegiatan ini, Tim Pengabdi menggunakan Media Augmented Reality sebagai salah satu upaya untuk meningkatkan keterampilan guru Raudatul Athfal Samasundu sebagai mitra dalam mengembangkan kompetensi guru. Peningkatan pengetahuan mengenai penggunaan teknologi Augmented reality merupakan target khusus dari kegiatan ini. Sedangkan, tujuan jangka panjang dari kegiatan ini adalah diharapkan bagi peserta dapat menggunakan teknologi augmented reality sebagai media pembelajaran.Kegiatan ini dibagi menjadi 4 tahap yaitu observasi, persiapan, pelaksanaan dan pendampingan.  Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan ini adalah seluruh peserta dapat menggunakan Augmented Reality sebagai media dalam mengajar khususnya dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Kemampuan berbahasa Inggris saat ini sangat krusial khususnya bagi mereka yang berkecimpung di dunia pendidikan seperti siswa, mahasiswa, guru, dosen, dan peneliti. Itulah sebabnya untuk mendaftar dan melulusi suatu program studi, perguruan tinggi umumnya memberlakukan test Bahasa Inggris, salah satu bentuknya adalah TOEFL. Atas dasar ini, tim dosen Program Studi Tadris Bahasa Inggris Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam Negeri Majene mengadakan kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat berupa pelatihan listening TOEFL Paper Based Test kepada siswa SMA Negeri 1 Majene. Ada tiga tujuan pelatihan ini: pertama, siswa kelas XII SMA Negeri 1 Majene memiliki pemahaman tentang konsep TOEFL; kedua, siswa peserta pelatihan mengetahui tips dan trik meraih skor maksimal pada Listening Section TOEFL PBT; dan ketiga, siswa memiliki motivasi untuk belajar TOEFL sebagai upaya persiapan melanjutkan pendidikan ke jenjang perguruan tinggi. Pelatihan berlangusng selama 150 menit, dilakukan selama satu hari pada tanggal 15 Agustus 2022 melalui metode ceramah, simulasi, dan evaluasi. Sebanyak 100 siswa kelas XII SMA Negeri 1 Majene berpartisipasi sebagai peserta pelatihan. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi program diketahui bahwa pelatihan ini efektif dalam memperkenalkan konsep TOEFL kepada siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Majene. Selain itu, pelatihan ini mampu membantu siswa mengetahui dan mempraktikan tips dan trik meraih skor maksimal pada Listening Section. Evaluasi juga menunjukkan siswa peserta pelatihan memiliki motivasi untuk belajar TOEFL sebagai upaya persiapan melanjutkan pendidikan ke jenjang universitas.

Abstract

This research examines the difficulties and learning preferences of English Education students at STAIN Majene in mastering grammar. Despite its significance for effective communication, Indonesian students face difficulties due to differences between Indonesian and English structures. Using a mixed-method approach, the research includes semi-structured interviews with 15 students from the 2021-2023 cohorts and a questionnaire distributed to all 70 students. Findings indicate that students struggle with environmental factors (lack of practice, limited class time), psychological factors (fear of judgment, varied perceptions of grammar's importance), and linguistic factors (material complexity, tense diversity). Students preferred active learning strategies, such as interactive videos and practical exercises. This highlights the need for educators to adapt teaching methods to address these difficulties and accommodate diverse learning preferences. Implementing engaging instructional strategies can enhance student comprehension and retention of grammar, offering valuable insights for improving English education programs and guiding future research.

Abstract

Analyzing EFL students’ language attitudes is essential, given the uniform national curriculum across Indonesia. The urban-suburban EFL proficiency gap shows greater challenges for suburban teachers. This study explores Gen-Z students' attitudes toward EFL in South and West Sulawesi. A mixed-method (Qual-Quan) design was used, combining classroom observations and interviews to gather concrete data on students’ reactions to English use in the teaching-learning process, conducted over three separate days. The researchers distributed a 14-item language attitude questionnaire covering beliefs, feelings, and tendencies. The research finds that urban Gen-Z students showed generally positive attitudes—enthusiastic, adaptable, and willing to use English even when optional, while still retaining regional accents with pride. In short, They were found to adapt linguistically to their interlocutors, indicating openness and pride in using English despite retaining traces of their regional accent.  In contrast, suburban students showed mostly negative attitudes toward English, often mocking peers’ mistakes and feeling shy to speak. Yet, in individual tasks, they were more serious, revealing resistance shaped by peer pressure and strong local language loyalty. The findings underscore the significant role of social context, peer influence, and ethnolinguistic identity in shaping language attitudes among Generation Z in multilingual regions. Nonetheless, the researchers would highly recommend for future scholars to develop specific EFL curriculum for suburban students for better outcomes on English mastery.

Abstract

Kaca piring (Gardenia augusta Merr.) merupakan salah satu tanaman dari Cina yang berfungsi sebagai tanaman hias atau penghasil bunga potong. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian larutan GA3 pada beberapa konsentrasi terhadap pertum-buhan dan waktu muncul kuncup bunga tanaman kaca piring. Penelitian dilaksana-kan pada bulan November 2016 – Februari2017 di Kecamatan Banyakan, Kabupaten Kediri, Jawa Timur yang terletak pada ke-tinggian ±300 mdpl. Penelitian ini menggu-nakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) yang terdiri dari 7 perlakuan penyem-protan larutan GA3 pada konsentrasi ber-beda dan setiap perlakuan diulang seba-nyak tiga kali. Parameter pengamatan berupa pengamatan pertambahan tinggi tanaman, pertambahan jumlah daun, per-tambahan luas daun, jumlah tunas daun, waktu muncul kuncup bunga, dan jumlah kuncup bunga. Hasil penelitian menun-jukkan bahwa GA3 memberikan pengaruh terhadap pertumbuhan dan waktu muncul kuncup bunga kaca piring. GA3 dengan konsentrasi 40 – 60 ppm mampu mening-katkan pertumbuhan (tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, luas daun dan jumlah tunas daun) sedangkan GA3 40 ppm memper-cepat waktu muncul kuncup bunga 10 hari lebih cepat dan meningkatkan jumlah kuncup bunga per tanaman 40% lebih banyak dibandingkan tanpa perlakuan GA3.
