Abstract

Prevention of stunting in infants and toddlers can be done starting during pregnancy. Nutritional intake in pregnant women can be done by consuming quality food. In an effort to fulfill nutrition for pregnant women and children by consuming nutritious snacks, this service conducted training on making cassava leaf tempeh to the community in the Bukit Surungan village, West Padang Panjang, Padang Panjang City in July 2022. The training activity began with an explanation about the content of cassava leaf tempeh to the trainees and a demonstration of how to make cassava leaves into tempeh with the addition of tempeh yeast. The finished cassava leaf tempeh is fried with tempeh flour and eaten with the trainees. The trainees said that tempeh was delicious and almost the same as tempeh in general. This tempe-making training has been successfully implemented and the community is interested in eating the fried tempeh as a nutritious snackservice activity that has been carried out has achieved its goal of preventing stunting in the city of Padang Panjang.

Abstract

Type I hypersensitivity reactions, also known as allergic reactions or anaphylactic reactions. The mechanism of anaphylaxis involves the release of mediators from mediator cells. The degranulation of mast cells and basophils causes an exaggerated immune response and causes the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis. Red dragon fruit peel contains secondary metabolites such as triterpenoid flavonoids and steroids. This study was an in vitro study of the ethanol extract of red dragon fruit peel (Hylocereus polyrhizuz) on the mast cells of male white mice induced by antigen. Five variations of the concentration used are 25; 50; 100; 200; 400 µg/mL. The percentage of mast cell degranulation by red dragon fruit peel extract at concentrations of 25; 50; 100; 200 dan 400 µg/mL is 75.27; 69.05; 64.04, 56.61; 45.17; dan 27.88%. There Red dragon fruit peel extract had a significant effect in inhibiting mast cell degranulation (p<0.05).

Abstract

Stunting is the impaired growth and development that children experience from poor nutrition, repeated infection, and inadequate psychosocial stimulation. Children are defined as stunted if their height-for-age is more than two standard deviations below the WHO Child Growth Standards median. Malnutrition that occurs during pregnancy can lead to stunting which usually appears after the baby is 2 years old. One of the efforts to prevent stunting is consuming a balanced nutritious diet. Many plants and herbs have good nutritional value that can prevent stunting. Plants that have nutritional value can be processed into food that can prevent stunting. This research is a qualitative descriptive method, research has been carried out with the stages of compiling research objectives, observations, interviews, documentation. This research was carried out to answer the need for information related to plant data used to prevent stunting by the community in Wali Nagari, Sijunjung Regency, West sumatera. There were 41 residents in Wali nagari as respondents. The plants most commonly used by the community in Wali Nagari as stunting prevention plants are cassava leaves, spinach leaves, legumes or nuts, katuk leaves, aromatic ginger, kelor leaves, temulawak, pegagan or gotu kola leaves, etc

Abstract

The economy and education are important aspects of the community but the other most important is health because health can affect economy and social productivity. Health can be imbalanced due to a poor lifestyle, diet, and lack of physical activity which will trigger various non-communicable diseases. The aim of this service community is to provide understanding on disease, good diet and daily physical activity. The method used is leaflets, posters, and short lectures. The result of this service is that many respondents are elderly. With this service we hope that in the future the elderly can begin to increase their physical activity, consume healthy food and routine health checks to increase the quality of life.

Abstract

African leaves (Vernonia amygdalina Delile) and kenikir leaves (Cosmos caudatus Kunth) are plants that belong to the asteraceae family. Members of asteraceae have been used in food and medicine for centuries. This study aims to determine the secondary metabolite compounds contained in African leaves extracts and kenikir leaves through phytochemical screening using Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) method detected using UV 254nm and UV 366 nm light, as well as spot revealers that match the chemical group. The results of phytochemical screening using KLT show that African leaves contain flavonoids, terpenoids. And kenikir leaf extract is positive for steroids and flavonoids, one of them which is isocuesitrin.

Abstract

Cherry tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum L.) belong to the Solanaceae family which contains antioxidant compounds such as carotenoid compounds, which come from the terpenoid group, for example lycopene, besides cherry tomatoes also have flavonoid compounds. Both of these compounds have many pharmacological activities, one of which is as an anti-inflammatory. Inflammation starts from the process of mast cell degranulation, which is the process of releasing mast cell granules containing inflammatory mediators such as histamine, leukotriene and prostaglandins that cause type I hypersensitivity (allergies). This study aims to determine the effect of cherry tomato ethanol extract on mast cell degranulation of male white mice in vitro. The experimental animals used were male white mice that were actively sensitized after being induced with 20% ovalbumin antigen 0.2 mL/20 g BW on the first day intraperitoneally and the 7th day subcutaneously. The results of the average percentage of mast cell degranulation by cherry tomato extract at concentrations of 25 μg/ml; 50 μg/ml; 100 μg/ml and 200 μg/ml were 54.70%; 51.71%; 46.73%; 42.65% and 38.92%. This study shows that cherry tomato extract (Solanum lycopersicum L.) can inhibit mast cell degranulation in male white mice
