Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The multiplication operation is a crucial topic in learning mathematics. Nevertheless, there were still students who considered the topic to be a difficult topic, one of which was for elementary and junior high school students at the Graha Asuh Jabal 165 Foundation, Bandung Regency. These problems occur due to the learning process that is not optimal. Therefore, the purpose of carrying out this service activity is to help students or service targets understand the concept on the topic of multiplication operations which are packaged in an attractive way so that students are motivated to take part in the learning process. The method for implementing this activity consists of three stages, namely: (1) the activity planning stage; (2) implementation stage; and (3) evaluation stage. The results obtained in this service activity are in the form of student responses which indicate that students are very enthusiastic in participating in the learning process, and make it easy for students in the process of calculating multiplication operations.

Abstract

Students typically have less interest in learning mathematics because it is still seen as a challenging subject. As a result, when compared to other disciplines, the pupils' mathematics understanding abilities remained below average. The aim of this study was to find out how employing visual aids, such as PowerPoint, to teach geometric shapes to students improved their mathematical comprehension skills. This kind of study uses a random subject posttest design and is therefore quasi-experimental. The population of this study consisted of students in class VIII SMPN 1 Pagelaran; the samples were drawn using the purposive sampling technique from students in class VIII C, which was the experimental class, and class VIII D, which was the control class. The t-test, homogeneity test, and normalcy test are the data analysis methods employed. With a significant rate of0.05, the testing results for the hypothesis produced tstat= 3.2 > ttable= 1.6801. This indicates that while Ha is acceptable, Ho is denied. This demonstrates how employing PowerPoint-assisted visual aids in mathematics instruction increases students' capacity for mathematical knowledge.

Abstract

There have been numerous research on developing students’ critical thinking skills through an open-ended approach in mathematics education show conflicting results. Some research results implied a strong effect; others range from moderate to modest effect. This research aims to summarize and predict the implementation of an open-ended approach to critical thinking skills in mathematics education over the last five years. This research utilized a meta-analysis using the PICOS (Population, Interventions, Comparator, Outcomes, and Study Design) approach. The sample used in this research is studies published in the form of articles and proceedings as well as theses and dissertations. The databases are sourced from Google Scholar, Crossref, and Semantic Science using the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses) method, which includes 14 primary studies found during 2018-2023 in Indonesia. The results are the implementations of an open-ended approach to improve critical thinking skills in mathematics education, show an average of 1.44, which is included in the high category. Factors that influence the heterogeneity of effect sizes are study characteristics, such as sample size, year of publication, level of education, demographics, and publication type. The characteristics of the research that results in a large effect size value are an open-ended approach implemented in elementary schools, studies with a sample size of more than 30, studies that are published in 2018 and in journals, and implementation of the approach in regencies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of mathematics learning with an open-ended approach in improving the learning independence of Vocational High School (SMK) students. This study uses a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design involving two groups of class XI Computer Network Engineering students (TKJ 1 and TKJ 2). The sample used was 72 students, which were divided into an experimental group and a control group. Data on student learning independence were collected through a learning independence questionnaire consisting of 36 statements that were analyzed using statistical tests with the help of the SPSS version 30 program. The results showed that the experimental group using an open-ended approach experienced a more significant increase in learning independence compared to the control group. This finding indicates that the open-ended approach is effective in improving student learning independence, which is very important in preparing them to face the dynamic world of work. However, the level of student learning independence is still in the low category, which indicates the need for the implementation of advanced strategies to further maximize the potential for student independent learning in the long term.
