Abstract

The research aims to examine the variance in students' mathematics when instructed use the Think-Pair-Share and Numbered Heads Together models. The study's population comprises all eighth-grade students at SMP Parulian 1 Medan. Two classes were selected from this population for experimental research, each receiving different treatments: Class VIII-3 as Experimental Group II, taught using the Numbered Heads Together (NHT) model, and Class VIII-2 as the sample group, Experimental Group I, instructed using the Think-Pair-Share (TPS) model. Based on the research findings and discussions outlined in the previous chapter, it can be concluded that: The average score of Experimental Group I surpasses that of Experimental Group II, with the posttest average of Experimental Group I amounting to 81.41 while Experimental Group II scored 75.87. Hypothesis testing is thitung = 2.383 > ttabel =1.99962, thus accepting Ha and rejecting H0. Hence, it can be concluded that students' mathematics learning outcomes using the Think-Pair-Share model are higher than using the Numbered Heads Together model.

Abstract

Learning mathematics in primary schools often faces challenges in making abstract concepts easier for students to understand. One approach that can address this challenge is ethnomathematics, which integrates elements of local culture into mathematics learning. This research aims to explore how ethnomathematics can be used to improve mathematical communication understanding in primary school students. The research method used is to use a literature review of various sources that examine the importance of training primary school children's communication in mathematics. Ethnomathematics can improve students' understanding of mathematical concepts through a cultural context that is familiar to them. This approach is also effective in training mathematical communication, where students learn to explain their thought processes, discuss with peers, and solve mathematical problems collaboratively. Students who learnt with the ethnomathematics approach showed improved mathematical communication skills, both orally and in writing. The importance of applying ethnomathematics lies in its ability to make mathematics more interesting and meaningful to students, thus increasing their motivation and active participation in learning. In addition, ethnomathematics also encourages the development of critical and creative thinking skills, which are essential in mathematical communication. Although its implementation requires teacher creativity and preparedness, these findings confirm that ethnomathematics is an important and effective approach in mathematics education in primary schools.

Abstract

Abstract

Computational thinking abilities assist students in solving complex problems, enhancing productivity, and preparing them to face challenges in various fields. The problem-based learning (PBL) model was chosen because it is believed to improve students' computational thinking skills, as well as their critical and creative thinking abilities, which are often difficult to achieve through conventional learning. This research aims to determine the differences in students' computational thinking abilities through the application of problem-based learning and traditional learning methods. The research method was an experiment involving a population of all 2020 Mathematics Education students who took six linear program courses at Medan State University. Sampling was conducted using a random sampling technique, focusing on the PSPM 20B and PSPM 20C classes, totaling 60 students. This study employed a pretest–posttest control group design. Results from previous research indicated that the average computational thinking ability of students in the experimental class was higher than that of the control class, with scores of 82.67 for the experimental class and 69.00 for the control class. From the results of the average difference test, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the computational thinking abilities of students taught using the problem-based learning model compared to those taught using the traditional learning model, with PBL being more effective.

Abstract

The ability to think creatively mathematically, defined as the capacity to generate novel, diverse, and valuable mathematical ideas or solutions to problems with fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration, is a crucial skill in facing the challenges of the 21st century. However, a comprehensive understanding of the influencing factors is still limited. This systematic review aims to integrate and synthesize current research on factors influencing mathematical creative thinking abilities from a multidimensional perspective. A systematic search method was conducted on the Scopus database for studies published between 2019 and 2024. The results show the complexity of interactions between cognitive (thinking style, analogical reasoning, computational thinking), affective (self-efficacy, attitudes towards mathematics, self-regulated learning), and contextual (learning approaches, technology integration, background) factors from the 31 articles analyzed. cultural background) in influencing mathematical creativity. The analysis also revealed differences in influencing factors between levels of education from junior high school to college. These results stress how important it is to look at math creativity as a whole. They also have important implications for how math is taught and for future research, such as the need for longitudinal studies and the creation of integrative theoretical models

Abstract

The ability to solve students' mathematical problems cannot be diagnosed clearly just by using test questions; it must also be seen by looking at students' responses to the problem-solving process. As a result, the purpose of this study is to investigate students' mathematical problem-solving skill as well as their responses to the problem-solving process. This study is descriptive-qualitative in nature. Three junior high schools (SMP) in Aceh participated in this study, with 76 class VIII students serving as research subjects. Tests, observations, and interviews were used as data collection techniques. Quantitative data were descriptively analyzed using proportions, while qualitative data were descriptively analyzed using coding. The results showed that 25 percent of students wrote down what was known and asked, which was an indication of problem comprehension; 21 percent of students were able to devise problem-solving strategies; and 15 percent of students had done calculations correctly. correct, 11 percent of students checked their answers again. Based on the responses given by students, there were some difficulties experienced by students when solving math problems, namely difficulty understanding reading texts, using mathematical terms, making problem connections, making decisions, uncertainty in solving problems, time, carelessness, and boredom. The findings of this study are expected to serve as a resource for teachers and education practitioners in developing focus, discipline, and patience in problem solving and selecting learning models appropriate to the needs of their students.
