As the online journal facilitating users to display information in chronological order and connected to the Internet, the blog also can help students to get a wide variety of reading materials, which should be conducted in extensive reading activities. However, the use of a blog in this study is integrated with the process of learning in the classroom so that the students can use it for reporting their reading activities and share what they read beyond the classroom. This study is conducted during one semester in one of the universities in Indonesia using six students of the first grade joining an extensive reading course as the participants. In this research, a case study is used as a research method. It aims at analyzing the students' perception of the use of blogs in extensive reading. Findings show that the blog is beneficial for promoting the students' reading interest, building autonomy and creativity, and providing a reflective platform. The blog consists of several features allowing students to get the numerous reading sources that are appropriate with their language level and interest. Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the self-efficacy of EFL students regarding their use of the QuillBot paraphrasing tool in academic writing. A qualitative research method was employed, and data were gathered through interviews. The participants consisted of four EFL students who were currently in the process of writing their theses and utilizing the QuillBot paraphrasing tool. Data analysis was conducted using NVIVO thematic analysis. The findings indicated that EFL students' self-efficacy in utilizing the QuillBot paraphrasing tool was not satisfactory. This lack of self-efficacy was influenced by various factors, including behavioral, social, and personal aspects. Among these factors, behavioral elements had the most significant impact as they directly affected the students' competence in academic writing. The participants' belief in their own academic writing abilities was undermined by behavioral factors, as they experienced difficulties in vocabulary and grammar usage. Furthermore, the study revealed that the social environment played a crucial role in enhancing EFL students' self-efficacy. Specifically, the support and encouragement received from lecturers and classmates positively influenced the participants' self-belief and confidence in utilizing the QuillBot paraphrasing tool. In conclusion, this research suggests that EFL students' self-efficacy in using the QuillBot paraphrasing tool for academic writing can be improved by addressing behavioral challenges and fostering a supportive social environment.

Abstract

This study examines the problems encountered by EFL students in composing qualitative research proposals and explores the tactics employed to address these problems. The study included three individuals who were enrolled as students in the English Education Department and had experienced delays in submitting their qualitative research proposals. The data were obtained via semi-structured interviews, wherein the researcher utilized mobile phones to record the participants' responses. The research employed a descriptive case study methodology and applied thematic analysis for data analysis. The findings of this study revealed a number of challenges encountered by students. These challenges encompassed deficiencies in various writing components, such as content-related problems, syntactic issues, vocabulary limitations, and challenges in sourcing references. Additionally, students faced internal obstacles, specifically a lack of motivation stemming from laziness. Lastly, technical difficulties were encountered when undertaking qualitative research proposals. In order to address these challenges, several potential solutions have been identified. One such solution involves fostering a supportive environment among peers, wherein they provide encouragement and assistance in the process of writing proposals. Additionally, it has been suggested that students may benefit from engaging in activities that restore their motivation and enthusiasm for research, such as watching educational content on platforms like YouTube. Lastly, self-evaluation has been proposed as a means of assessing their progress and identifying areas for improvement. Keywords: Qualitative Research, EFL, Challenges and Solutions
