Abstract

Gold processing waste contains many chemicals compound such as mercury and cyanide, which may help change the physical character of soil. In this study, the temperature, humidity and soil pH has been measured. Measurements of temperature and soil moisture are carried out using SHT11 sensors directly during gold processing. Measurements were carried out around the pond in three different directions. Each direction has 6 points, spaced 5 m apart. Measurements at one point are carried out for 20-21 hours. The measurement results are then mapped to a contour using Surfer-13. Based on the measurement results, obtained temperature values for all points are in the range 25.2-30.3 °C. While the value of soil moisture around 63.8-89.9%, and the soil pH value ranged from 6.8 to 8.1. The mapping results shows the distribution of temperature, humidity and soil pH with almost the same pattern, where the mercury concentration is linear with soil temperature, and soil pH, but non-linear with soil moisture

Abstract

This paper aims to characterize and test the stability of sulfuric natural water (SNW) from Sebau East Lombok as a sulfidation agent for several dissolved metals (Mn, Cu, Pb and Fe). The parameters used for SNW characterization are temperature, pH, DO, BOD, COD, TSS, and TDS. The sample was divided into two categories, namely the sample with preservation treatment and the sample without preservation, to study the stability of SNW. The SNW stability was determined by observing the SNW parameters in both samples at a storage time of 5, 10, 15 and 20 days and reacting them with dissolved metals. The SNW with preservation had reduced sulphide levels from day 1 to day 20, ranging from 59.24 mg/L to 17.70 mg/L, whereas the sample without preservation had decreased sulphide concentration from 52.46 mg/L to 9.56 mg/L. Furthermore, the SNW with preservation has a relatively superior metal reduction ratio than the sample without preservation. The maximum value of the deposition ratio for Mn metal was obtained on the fifth day with 57.60%, 83.45% for Cu, and 91.87% for Pb. This trend is not applicable for Fe, whereas the highest reduction (87.23%) was obtained on the the15th day's storage.

Abstract

UMKM based on marine products in Panggang Island, Kepulauan Seribu, play an essential role in the coastal economy, yet sanitation and hygiene aspects still need strengthening through environmentally oriented approaches to ensure product quality and business sustainability. This study aims to enhance the capacity of UMKM actors through an initial socialization of community-based partnership empowerment. The activities were conducted using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach with a hybrid format, combining face-to-face and online sessions, along with participatory observation and group discussions. The main materials focused on Good Manufacturing Practices, production space management, raw material handling, and local product communication strategies to build consumer trust. The results indicated an increase in collective awareness among UMKM actors regarding hygienic practices, the ability to identify production constraints, and readiness to engage in follow-up training and intensive mentoring. These findings highlight that multi-stakeholder collaboration involving academia, government, and the community can strengthen the UMKM ecosystem, support local economic sustainability, enhance product competitiveness, and reinforce environmental communication strategies.

Abstract

The animated film “Wall-E”, produced by Pixar, is not only for entertainment purposes, but also conveys important messages about environmental issues and the crisis of our planet. The aim of this study is to examine environmental messages in the movie “Wall-E” with the help of Critical Discourse Analysis. The method used is Critical Discourse Analysis, which was developed by Norman Fairclough. The criticism in this film study is intended to describe human behavior that has an impact on the environment. The theory on which this study is based is Robert Cox's Environmental Communication Theory. In this study, the interaction between visual, aural and narrative elements in the film is examined and these elements contribute to the formation of meaning and awareness of the environmental crisis. The results of the analysis show that “Wall-E” effectively conveys themes such as pollution, overconsumption and human indifference to the planet. In addition, the film is also socially critical of modern consumer culture and emphasizes the importance of dialogue and participation in sustainability efforts. It is expected that this study will provide new insights into the role of media in raising environmental awareness and encouraging collective action to overcome the existing crisis.
