Abstract

The low motivation of students in learning is partly due to the use of learning media which is still limited. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Rainbow Scrapbook media on the learning motivation of class IX students in the Integrated Social Sciences subject at SMP Negeri 50 Batam. This type of research is quantitative research with a quasi-experimental approach. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. The selected experimental class IX F consisted of 39 students and the control class IX D consisted of 40 students. The experimental class was given the treatment using Rainbow Scrapbook media, while the control class was given the treatment using textbook media. The research instrument is in the form of a learning motivation questionnaire with a Likert scale of 37 question items. The results of the research class based on the tabulation of the frequency distribution of 39 students obtained an average (mean) of 68.82, and the control class from the tabulation of the frequency distribution of 40 students obtained an average (mean) of 67.87. The t-test analysis obtained a t count of 1.664 and a t table of 1.660 with a significance of 0.05. Because the t count is greater than the t table, then Ha can be accepted and Ho is rejected, meaning that there is a significant effect of using Rainbow Scrapbook media on student learning motivation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to use extensive reading approaches to improve the reading and writing literacy of teenagers in Tanjung Gundap, Batam. With 25 participants, the study used a one-group pretest-posttest methodology and a quantitative pre-experimental design. The study's main objective was to assess how well the skimming technique—a crucial tactic in lengthy reading—improves literacy. Twenty-item pre- and post-tests were used to gather data, and paired sample t-tests were used to compare the outcomes before and after the intervention. With a p-value of 0.000, the data from the pre-test and post-test revealed a significant difference in the students' reading and writing abilities. The post-test findings showed a movement toward higher literacy categories, with more children earning high and very high literacy scores. Before the intervention, most students had moderate to low reading levels. This study shows that reading widely, and using skimming strategies in particular, can improve literacy. According to the results, structured reading programs can significantly enhance students' academic performance, especially in the areas of writing and reading comprehension. In order to improve student learning results, the study highlights how crucial it is to incorporate comprehensive reading strategies into instructional procedures.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate digital storytelling-based listening materials that integrate the local culture of Riau Islands to enhance students' listening comprehension. The research employed a Design-Based Research (DBR) approach involving iterative cycles of design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The participants consisted of 35 university students, three lecturers, and three experts in material, language, and media validation. Data were collected through questionnaires, expert validation forms, and pre-test–post-test assessments. The design phase resulted in audiovisual storytelling materials featuring local cultural narratives and interactive comprehension activities. Expert validation indicated that the materials were highly feasible, with mean scores above 85% across material, language, and media aspects. The implementation results revealed a significant improvement in students' listening comprehension, as shown by an increase in the mean score from 61.31 (pre-test) to 80.89 (post-test) with a mean gain of 19.57 points (p .001). The findings suggest that digital storytelling enriched with local culture can serve as an effective and engaging alternative medium for listening instruction. This study contributes to the integration of culturally grounded digital pedagogy in language learning and supports the contextualization of English instruction in multicultural settings.

Abstract

This study examines intellectual stimulation in transformational school leadership and its relationship with teachers' self-efficacy. Although transformational leadership has been widely studied, limited research has examined intellectual stimulation as a distinct dimension and its contribution to teachers' self-efficacy, particularly in Indonesian public secondary schools. Grounded in transformational leadership theory and Bandura's self-efficacy framework, this study aimed to investigate that relationship and explain how such leadership is enacted in school practice. Employing a mixed-methods explanatory sequential design, quantitative data were collected from all 52 teachers through structured questionnaires that measured principals' intellectual stimulation and teachers' self-efficacy, using total sampling, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and linear regression. Qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with 10 voluntarily selected teachers and were analyzed thematically. The quantitative findings indicate a significant positive relationship between principals' intellectual stimulation and teachers' self-efficacy. Qualitative results reveal that intellectual stimulation is manifested through encouragement to try new teaching methods, support during experimentation and failure, opportunities for professional dialogue, freedom to express alternative ideas, and the creation of psychological safety. The study concludes that intellectually stimulating leadership strengthens teachers' confidence, professional agency, and instructional improvement. These findings recommend that school principals foster psychologically safe and intellectually supportive environments to enhance teacher self-efficacy and sustainable school development.
