Abstract

The loss of food production land due to land conversion in supporting more economically profitable activities has urged innovations in agricultural and fishery activities by utilizing narrow land. A suitable method to solve this problem is Budikdamber or fish farming in a bucket. This method adopts the concept of aquaponics, which is a combination of aquaculture and hydroponics. Community skills improvement by Budikdamber activity aims to introduce a simple method for growing kale and catfish farming on narrow land using buckets so that people can obtain food directly from their yards. The target community for this activity is the residents of RT 14, Karang Joang Village. The implementation method includes field surveys and problem identification, formulation of solutions, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. These steps are expected to provide skills for the community to do Budikdamber. The community showed positive responses to this activity. The community showed their understanding and opinion of the Budikdamber activity and the continuity of this activity.

Abstract

Abstract

DAMIU is a microenterprise that has had significant growth in East Balikpapan, particularly in the Lamaru region. The necessity of water is paramount for humans, as it is a vital component of the body, supports essential activities, and is crucial for general health. Socialization occurs in person in the Lamaru Balikpapan Timur Health Center auditorium. Customers requiring water refills predominantly consist of stalls, private residences, and projects, with a general preference for delivery over self-collection at the depot. The distribution process employs a pick-up vehicle with a capacity of 60-70 gallons each trip. The survey results indicated a production of 3,800 liters per day for one vehicle. Among the 10 depots, 3 DAMIUs utilize one vehicle, while 7 DAMIUs employ 2 to 3 vehicles. The water supply utilized comprises 80% PDAM from 10 DAMIUs. Customers who are frequently disoriented and negligent impede the delivery procedure. Map Marker accurately identifies the client's location by interfacing with Google Maps and allows the input of images of residences, stalls, or locations, as well as customer telephone numbers. Participants from the socialization group rated it 6 out of 10, exhibiting complete curiosity about utilizing the application. DAMIU owners in the East Balikpapan area have achieved income stability and mitigated staff fraud through the utilization of the Map Marker application, presenting a significant advantage for them.

Abstract

Abstract

The problem of organic waste management in Balikpapan City is increasing, with a total of 193,038 tons/year, 70.3% of which comes from household waste. One solution implemented at Manggar Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Landfill in Balikpapan is the processing of organic waste using maggots (BSF larvae). This study aims to analyze the current conditions, analyze the factors influencing waste processing, and formulate strategies for optimizing the processing facility. The methods used include quantitative and qualitative approaches, as well as best practice analysis as a basis for improvement. The research findings highlight several issues, such as the absence of BSF egg weighing, predator disturbances in the fly cages, biopon systems without drainage channels, and the manual process of separating maggots from casings. Optimization was carried out through the redesign of the BSF fly enclosure, improvement, and addition of 21 biopon units, which can produce 35.7 liters of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) and decompose 1,0878 tons of organic waste per cycle, the design of a sieving machine, and the reorganization of the maggot house layout. These efforts are expected to enhance processing efficiency and capacity to 1,0878 tons per cycle, supporting more sustainable and environmentally friendly waste management.
