Abstract

Corn farming on the island of Java plays a crucial role in meeting the nation's food needs. However, variations in land conditions across provinces in Java result in differing production levels. This disparity affects the supply of corn in the market, and the selling price often does not align with farmers' expectations. Therefore, this article aims to determine the optimal timing for distributing corn, particularly on the island of Java, using the Euclidean algorithm. The Euclidean algorithm is used to calculate the greatest common divisor (gcd), which in turn is applied to determine the least common multiple (lcm). The lcm results can serve as a reference for identifying the best time to sell corn to prevent price declines. Additionally, a comparison of production levels across provinces is presented to help corn farmers understand when and where to distribute their produce to achieve maximum profit.

Abstract

This article combines a simple cryptographic algorithm, Caesar Cipher, with a more complex algorithm, RSA, in order to increase the security of encrypted text messages. Text messages are first encrypted with the Caesar Cipher algorithm, which is then re-encrypted using the RSA algorithm. By utilizing number theory, specifically about integers and modulo arithmetic in the RSA algorithm, a public key and a secret key are obtained that will increase the security of the encryption process in this article. Due to the increased security of the text message, uninvolved parties cannot read the actual text message.

Abstract

This article discusses the application of mathematics in biological inheritance problems, which are closely linked to mathematical studies, particularly in algebraic hyperstructures, including hypergroupoids, hypergroups, and -semigroups. The research aims to determine types of algebraic hyperstructures arising from genetic crossing in inheritance issues, with the crossing results represented in a set where two distinct hyperoperations are applied. Findings indicate that under the first hyperoperation, the algebraic hyperstructures formed include a commutative hypergroup, a regular hypergroup, a cyclic hypergroup, and an -semigroup with one idempotent element, three identity elements, and one generator. Under the second hyperoperation the resulting algebraic hyperstructures include a commutative hypergroup, a regular hypergroup, a cyclic hypergroup, and an -semigroup without idempotent elements, with three identity elements and three generators. Future research could develop various alternative hyperoperations on biological inheritance problems, generating a greater variety of algebraic hyperstructures. The results of this study indicate that the algebraic hyperstructure of a set depends on its hyperoperation.

Abstract

Beef is one of the most demanded food products in Indonesia compared to other meat commodities. The high demand of this commodity causes a shortage of its supply so that the government has to import it from other countries. As the consequences, people in Indonesia prefer to consume imported beef rather than local beef, especially those in the food industry, since imported beef has better quality. Thus, government may establish a program that is able to increase the local beef quality thereby increasing its competitiveness, for instant by cross-breeding of local and imported cattle. This paper is to discuss a cross-breeding simulation to predict the distribution of offspring produced in the next few generations through mathematical approach. Simulations are conducted by following the X-Linked Inheritance concept and algebra. Simulations are carried out by three different scenarios which consider gender of the imported cattle. The simulations show that all scenarios are able to produce local cattle offspring with imported quality. However, the offspring from the cross-breeding still preserve cattle with original local genetic with a different ratio between the first and the second scenario.

Abstract

Forests are natural resources which if it is managed properly can provide the economic benefits to the surrounding. Woods from trees in the forest are one of the economic benefits that can be gained from the forest. However, trees must be logged under a precise calculation and controlled continuously so that they are not extinct. Logging time in a forest is generally determined by the needs of farmers, which may not necessarily provide maximum benefits. Therefore, harvesting management is needed to obtain optimal benefits while still maintaining the forest sustainability. This paper discusses a basic model of the tree harvesting using Linear Algebra which is applied to one of economically valuable trees, i.e., Gmelina arborea Roxb. on the community forest in Tasikmalaya and Banjar, West Java. Initially, the tree population is divided into 16 class intervals based on their diameter. Analysis of the harvesting model implies that the optimal results will be obtained by logging all of trees in one class with the highest selling value. By applying this scenario, all of the Gmelina arborea Roxb. on the community forest in Tasikmalaya and Banjar, West Java must be logged at the 9th class which will provide a maximum profit of IDR 12,491,843.889 for every 1,000 trees harvested.

Abstract

Raw materials are important for a company, but the stockpile of raw materials that accumulates too many and too long adds to the inventory costs. Therefore, an appropriate inventory policy is needed to meet uncertain needs. This study discusses the uncertain need for paper raw materials at the Publisher X using the Additive Decomposition Forecasting method to determine the paper needs in the future. The Additive Decomposition Forecasting Method is used since the demand for paper raw materials is seasonal and tends to increase. Furthermore, after knowing the need of paper raw materials, inventory control planning is carried out by using P Model with the back order case because of the constant order period. The results of this study indicate that by implementing an inventory control policy with P Model with the case of back order, the Publisher X is able to save as 0.9067% of total inventory cost compared to the total cost using the company’s policy that have been used before.

Abstract

Every company requires minimum costs in controlling inventory and maximizing the company value. The company value is an investor's perception of the company success level. Therefore, the inventory management system have to contribute to realize these goals. Besides influencing the company value, inventory control is also useful to expedite the company activities. An alternative solution to maximize the company value is by increasing the economic value added (EVA). The change of EVA ΔEVA) can be analyzed using the Value Based Economic Order Quantity (VBEOQ) method which each item is ordered separately. However, in a company may manage many items. In order to overcome this problem, ΔEVA can be analyzed using the multi-item inventory method of a single order period. These two methods are used to analyze EVA in the micro enterprise Depot Tutup Galon X. Based on the analysis, it is found that by using the VBEOQ method and multi item inventory for a single order period increase the ΔEVA as Rp12,629,947,00 and Rp14,355,057,00, respectively. These results indicate that applying the multi-item inventory method for a single order period at Depot Tutup Galon X is better since it increases the ΔEVA larger.

Abstract

This paper discusses about a mathematical model of the prisoner population with a new regulation regarding punishments to the drug users in an effort to overcome the prison overcapacity issue in Indonesia. This new regulation is launched by the Indonesia government after a fact about overcapacity of prison in Indonesia is revealed through a fire incident in a prison on 8 September 2021 that causes 41 people died and a number of people were injured. Besides, prisons in Indonesia are mostly occupied by the drug user. The model is constructed by using a compartmental model approach. The stability analysis of the equilibrium points is carried out along with its existence conditions. The analytical studies are equipped by calculate the basic reproduction number. Furthermore, this study is also equipped by numerical simulations with some scenarios. The results of this study confirm that the effect of the new regulation is able to reduce overcrowded issue in prisons in Indonesia. However, if it compare to recent prison capacity, this new regulation has not been able to suppress the number of prisoner below to its capacity limit in the short time so that it is needed to consider other solutions as the additional regulation and policy

Abstract

This paper comprehensively explains how to solve mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) models using the generalized benders decomposition (GBD) method. The MINLP problem is an optimization model in which some variables must be integers and the objective function or constraints are nonlinear.  The GBD method is an extension of the Benders Decomposition (BD) method, effectively handles the characteristics of the MINLP  model, where the model has nonlinear properties and involves two types of variables, namely continuous variables and integer variables. The GBD method decomposes the problem into primal and master problems that are solved alternately until the optimal solution is found. The main difference between the GBD and BD methods is that GBD uses nonlinear duality in the main problem so that GBD can solve the nonlinear problem, whereas BD applies linear duality. This paper also presents some theorem proofs related to GBD that were not presented in detail in the previous literature. The application of the GBD method is also presented to demonstrate how the method can be effectively used to solve real-world MINLP problems.

Abstract

The robust Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model is an approach to address uncertainty in linear optimization involving integer and continuous variables, which can be solved using the Benders Decomposition method. One of its applications is facility location problems, which often face demand, costs, and capacity uncertainties. This article presents a systematic literature review (SLR) on solving robust MILP models using the Benders Decomposition method and its application to facility location problems. The objectives are to explore the state-of-the-art and research trends, identify issues modeled as robust MILP and solved using Benders Decomposition, and determine the most frequently used uncertainty sets. SLR was conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) method on the Scopus, Science Direct, and Dimensions databases for the last five years of publication, with bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer and RStudio. The results show that there are limited articles that discuss the solution of the robust MILP model on the problem of facility location with the ellipsoidal uncertainty set. In addition, the Benders Decomposition method is widely used to solve robust MILP problems in energy, logistics, supply chains, and scheduling, with interval uncertainty sets being the most common. This topic is an influential theme and has the potential to be explored further.
