Abstract

Stunting is a growth failure in children. Stunting can be avoided by adjusting birth spacing or implementing a Family Planning program by using appropriate contraception. Therefore, it is necessary to develop appropriate and rapid contraceptive selection techniques to assist family planning programs. This study develops a model for determining contraceptive methods using a Naïve Bayes Classifier. In addition, an Adaboost algorithm was used to handle the independent between attributes on Naïve Bayes. The performance evaluation of model was measured by combining k-fold cross validation and confusion matrix. Based on the results testing was obtained an optimal parameter of learning rate was 0.1 and the number of iterations was 50. The evaluation using optimal parameters produce the best accuracy of 87.5%, precision of 87.6%, recall of 87.5%, and f1-measure of 87.5%. This result was better than applying the Naïve Bayes without implementing Adaboost, which had 70% accuracy. The used of Adaboost was proven to increase the accuracy of Naive Bayes by 17.5%.

Abstract

DNA markers and Multiplex-PCR have emerged as methods for species detection in processed meat products. The primary objective of this study is to design multiplex primer sequences for pork, rat, beef, and chicken, generating distinguishable amplicons through agarose gel electrophoresis for halal detection in processed meat products. Primer design involved utilizing mitochondrial genomic data and the NCBI-Primer BLAST site to obtain specific pork and beef primer sequences. In silico simulations, including single and multiplex-PCR, were conducted using Primer Pooler. In vitro validation encompassed Single-PCR and Multiplex-PCR annealing temperature optimization, using samples of chicken, beef, pork, and rat as well as processed meat products like meatballs, sausages, and nuggets. In vitro validation demonstrated that the halal marker gene's multiplex primer efficiently amplified the target sequence, specifically at the optimal annealing temperature of 58°C. Amplicons from beef (1,217 bp), pork (860 bp), rat (622 bp), and chicken (272 bp) primers could be distinguished on a 1.5% agarose gel. The study's results can aid in cost-effective and rapid halal testing and authentication of processed meat products, offering advantages over PCR with a single primer.

Abstract

This study critically analyzes the recent trend of Englishing shop names in Aceh province. Borrowing Bhabha’s postcolonial theory, this study attempted to uncover the shop owners’ perceptions of privileging English and marginalizing local languages, even though their customers are mostly local. Data collection was by taking pictures and interviewing 20 owners of the shops, four females and 16 males. Results show that the 120 shop names in Banda Aceh and surrounding it are in English, modified English and Indonesian ordering, hybridized English and Indonesian ordering, hybridized English Acehnese language and English, English and English ordering, and mixed owner’s names and English ordering. They voluntarily mimicked the Western culture by using English names because they believe that English is marketable, modern, practical, flexible, familiar, and short for shop branding, while the local language looks not modern, unpractical, and weird. In conclusion, most shop owners in the two districts in Aceh negotiate the Western hegemony for the economic benefits.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an analytical description of how students solve five essay questions aligned with indicators of mathematical reasoning ability. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with a purposive sample of seven 11th-grade high school students in West Bandung Regency. Data were collected through students’ written responses to test instruments and subsequently analyzed to identify errors in the problem-solving process and to measure mathematical reasoning skills. The measured indicators included: (1) formulating conjectures, (2) performing mathematical manipulations, (3) constructing evidence and providing justification for multiple solutions, (4) drawing conclusions from statements, and (5) verifying the validity of arguments. The findings show that indicator (1) reached the very good category with a percentage of 85.71%, while indicator (2) was categorized as good with 60.71%. Indicators (3) and (5) fell into the sufficient category with percentages of 32.14% and 46.43%, respectively. Indicator (4) was categorized as poor with 25.00%. Overall, the average percentage across all indicators was 50.00%, indicating that the mathematical reasoning ability of 11th-grade high school students in the school under study falls into the sufficient category. This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by offering a detailed profile of students’ reasoning performance across multiple indicators, providing empirical evidence of specific reasoning weaknesses often overlooked in quantitative assessments, and highlighting the need for targeted instructional interventions to strengthen conceptual understanding and argumentation in mathematics learning.
