Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Fashion and racism are complex issues with pressure for the industry to be more inclusive of racial differences. The Black Lives Matter movement has drawn attention to the issue of racism in the fashion industry and inspired social efforts to address it. Increased support for this cause has resulted in more entities contributing to eliminating racism in the industry through actions such as black model matter campaigns and the founding of The Kelly Initiative, which advocates for the diversity and inclusivity of the fashion industry. This research aims to examine the impact of social movements in combating racism and promoting equality in the global fashion industry. Qualitative methods are used with several theoretical frameworks, including racism, to show neglect, which results in discrimination, as well as global social movements, which are used to show forms of collective action in the form of protests that seek inclusive change in fashion. The results show that social movements can transform the fashion industry through rapid advances in diversity and inclusion through collective action. The implication is that it allows all parties to contribute to fashion without facing racial discrimination, thereby achieving diversity and inclusion.

Abstract

The use of sulfonamide related to drug residual in the product of broiler chicken, like meat and egg. This research aimed to determine the sulfonamides (sulfamerazine, sulfanilamide, and sulfadiazine) on the broiler chicken meat, breast, and egg from the three different slaughterhouses circulating in the City of Makassar. The sample was extracted by acetonitrile and acetone then concentrated. The extract and sulfonamides then analyzed by HPLC method using C18 reverse phased column, UV-Visible detector in the wavelength of 270 nm. The result of study shows that the chromatogram of sample breast and egg has similar retention time with sulfonamides as a standard reference. The breast sample contains sulfamerazine residues, sample B and C contains 0.014 and 0.005 % (w/w), respectively. The egg sample A and D contains sulfadiazine 0.045 and 0.108 % (w/w), respectively. Sample B contains sulfanilamide 0.053 % (w/w). Sample A and B is egg yolk, while sample D is egg whites. Based on the results obtained, this is not suitable for the rules set by JECFA of 0.1 mg/kg (10-5 % w/w) as well as the standard of SNI. It can be concluded that generally broiler chicken breast and egg circulating in the City of Makassar was contaminated by sulfonamide with high concentration.

Abstract

Tofu is one of the healthiest foods because of its high protein content and the quality is equivalent to the quality of animal protein. Formaldehyde has a function as an antibacterial agent that can slow down the activity of bacteria in foods that contain a lot of protein, so formaldehyde reacts with proteins in food and makes food durable, but when it enters the human body, formaldehyde itself is mutagenic and carcinogenic which can trigger the growth of cancer cells. and gene defects in the body. Thus, in this study, we aim to determine the formalin contamination in tofu circulated in Maros City – Indonesia. This research was conducted from December 2014 to June 2015. The analysis of formalin contamination in tofu was conducted in qualitative and quantitative analysis. The qualitative analysis was performed using the specific reagent, and the quantitative analysis was measured by UV-Vis spectrophotometric method. The result showed that sample codes RMD1 and RMD2 with formalin contaminants because the color of the solution produced after the test was red correspond to the positive result. As for the tofu sample with sample code RMD3, the results were negative because it gave a yellow color after adding potassium permanganate reagent. In the quantitative analysis, samples were measured using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 571.5 nm. From the measurement process, the result exhibited that the samples RMD1 and RMD2 contain formalin of 5.92 and 3.34 g/gram, respectively.
