Abstract

Abstract

The South China Sea sovereignty dispute between China and the Philippines has been ongoing for decades, with tensions peaking after China took over Mischief Reef in 1995. The dispute involves overlapping claims over a strategic and resource-rich area, including oil, natural gas, and marine products. The method used in this research is library research, which is a method of collecting data through academic literature, journals, books, and relevant reference sources. The theory in this research is to explore International Conflict Theories & History of South China Sea. Which International Conflict Theories highlight the important role of conflict in driving social change, involves cross-border actors, and requires a comprehensive approach to prevention and resolution at the global level. The History of South China Sea covers important trade routes, countries' sovereignty claims, and centuries of geopolitical tensions due to economic and military interests. The South China Sea dispute involves multiple countries with overlapping territorial claims and resource interests. The conflict is fueled by huge economic potential, such as oil, gas and vital trade routes. Growing tensions, especially between China and the Philippines, require a careful diplomatic solution. Abstract

This article analyses the phenomenon of Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing in the seas of Sulawesi, a strategic region with abundant potential fisheries resources. The research uses a qualitative method with a literature review approach to explore the characteristics, economic and social impacts, and transboundary management efforts between Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. The results showed that IUU fishing in Sulawesi waters is highly complex and involves various modus operandi, such as the use of foreign vessels with false flags, destructive fishing, and violation of fishing areas. The economic losses are significant, estimated at 30 trillion rupiah per year, resulting in depleted fish stocks, reduced income for local fishermen and threats to food security. Efforts are being made through multilateral approaches, such as the Trilateral Maritime Patrol, which integrates the maritime surveillance of the three countries. However, major challenges remain, including differences in law enforcement capabilities, overlapping regulations and potential collusion between IUU fishers and law enforcement officials.

Abstract

Operation Prosperity Guardian is a strategic initiative of the United States implemented to maintain the security and smooth running of maritime activities, such as trade in the Red Sea. The Red Sea itself is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, playing an important role in the international economy. The increasing activity of the Houthi Militia, which often carries out attacks on merchant ships, is the main trigger for the formation of this operation. The operation involves a number of countries working together to conduct joint maritime patrols or share information, in order to maximize the objectives of the operation. While the operation has been effective in reducing the level of attacks on merchant ships, challenges remain. Houthi militias continue to fight back and adapt new tactics. This article will analyze how Operation Prosperity Guardian, from its objectives and challenges, to its implications for maritime security in the Red Sea and the Middle East region. The novelty in this research is the need for more literature that discusses Operation Prosperity Guardian: The United States' efforts to secure international trade routes in the Red Sea.

Abstract

Irregular migration becomes the most pressing humanitarian & political issue in the Eastern Mediterranean, Turkey-Greece 2022-2024, the increasing flow of migrants (driven by conflict, poverty, and limited legal migration channels) has subjected both countries to overlapping security, legal, and humanitarian pressures. The research examines the crisis through two theoretical lenses: Regional Security Complex Theory (RSCT) and the Human Security Framework. Based on recent data, legal cases, and institutional reports, the study highlights persistent abuses such as expulsions, limited asylum protection, and the abuse of geopolitical leverage, especially under the EU-Turkey Statement and Greece's “safe third country” designation. Despite some examples of cooperation, securitized responses continue to dominate, enabling smuggling networks and putting migrants at great risk. The paper concludes that tackling irregular migration requires moving beyond reactive policies towards sustainable solutions rooted in regional cooperation, legal integrity and the fulfillment of human security. Only through this integrated approach can the region move from managing symptoms to addressing the root causes of migration.

Abstract

One of the factors influencing growth and development is nutritional status. Growth and developmental disorders in infants may result in delays in neuromuscular development, speech ability, emotional regulation, socialization, auditory sensory function, and even autism. This study aimed to examine the relationship between nutritional status and psychosocial stimulation with the growth and development of infants aged 6–12 months in the working area of Tabaringan Health Center, Makassar. A cross-sectional design was employed. The sample consisted of 30 mothers with infants aged 6–12 months who met the inclusion criteria, selected using an accidental sampling technique. The collected data included maternal characteristics, nutritional status, and infant characteristics. Psychosocial stimulation data were obtained through interviews using the HOME questionnaire, consisting of 17 questions. Infant social-personal and language development was assessed using the Denver Developmental Screening Test II (DDST), which included 20 items. Data were analyzed using the Pearson correlation test (Chi-square). The results showed no significant relationship between psychosocial stimulation and both language and personal-social development. However, there was a significant relationship between nutritional status and personal-social development in infants, while no significant relationship was found with language development. Further research is recommended to explore other factors that may influence infant language and personal-social development.
