Abstract

A work of fiction made by a child is an extraordinary gift. The child's ability to imagine and put that imagination into a series of stories is an invaluable value of the archipelago's wealth. A work made by children aged 6-12 years became one of the riches of Indonesian literature which eventually developed and was called children's literature. Children's literature is rich in values and messages. Children's literature is also rich in directive functions. This study found that in children's literature there are many directive functions conveyed by the author through his work. The various directive functions contained in children's fiction are representations of real life experienced by characters or writers in their daily routines. The richer the directive function in children's fiction, the richer the message conveyed by the author, implicitly or explicitly

Abstract

Abstract

The partner of this community service activity is SDN Simokerto VI/139 which is located at Jalan Sidotopo Wetan No. 112 Surabaya Based on the teacher's observations and interviews with school principals, one way to develop the teaching profession by writing scientific papers is to make a dictionary. The dictionary is a collection of meaningful words, very important for teachers as a means of writing and as a medium of learning while students can find out the meaning of various vocabulary words. . The partner's problem is that in the Library of SDN Simokerto VI, there are no general dictionaries or dictionaries for elementary schools that students can use to develop vocabulary or look for meaning in learning. This PPM activity aims to equip SDN Simokerto VI teachers to be able to compile and utilize dictionaries. for elementary schools. The training participants were teachers at SDN Simokerto VI and librarians, as well as school principals. The results of PPM activities were that all participants understood dictionaries, could compile dictionaries, and could use dictionaries for elementary schools.

Abstract

The integration of literacy and numeracy has become a crucial priority in modern education in response to the increasing role of digital technology in learning. The need for an approach that connects narrative comprehension with mathematical reasoning has driven the development of the STEM– Literacy Integration model. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the model, which is characterized by the use of contextual mathematical narratives, cross-disciplinary problem solving, multimodal digital representations, and adaptive learning pathways that link language comprehension with numerical reasoning. The model was implemented through a digital learning platform to strengthen students’ reading comprehension and numeracy skills. The study employed a mixed methods approach with a quasi-experimental design involving 120 junior high school students in Surabaya, who were divided into experimental and control groups. Quantitative data were obtained through narrative literacy tests and numeracy assessments, while qualitative data were collected through interviews, observations of digital learning activities, and learning analytics. The results showed a significant improvement in reading comprehension and numeracy performance in the experimental group (p < 0.05). Thematic analysis revealed that the integration of mathematical storytelling, interactive simulations, visual–verbal reinforcement, and real-world STEM contexts strengthened the cognitive connection between language and mathematical concepts. This study concludes that the STEM– Literacy Integration model is effective in simultaneously enhancing literacy and numeracy in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the implementation of the Independent Curriculum in Indonesian language learning through the philosophical perspectives of idealism and realism, and to explore how these perspectives are integrated with the deep learning approach. This study employed a qualitative research method involving document analysis and semi-structured interviews conducted with three Indonesian language teachers who had at least two years of experience in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum, as well as one language education lecturer with an academic background in educational philosophy. Content analysis was employed to interpret the philosophical meanings that emerged during the implementation of the curriculum. The results show that the idealist perspective emphasizes the cultivation of students’ moral, spiritual, and character values through Indonesian language learning. In contrast, the realist perspective highlights real-life experiences, practical skills, and the relevance of learning to everyday life. The deep learning approach serves as a bridge between the two philosophies by integrating reflective discussions on moral values with project-based, contextual Indonesian language learning activities identified in classroom practices. Therefore, the Independent Curriculum is not only regarded as an educational innovation but also as a transformation of the educational paradigm that holistically integrates idealism and realism. The findings of this study contribute to the development of more meaningful, adaptive, and contextually relevant Indonesian language learning strategies in the modern educational era.

Abstract

The development of literacy and numeracy competencies is a primary concern in elementary education, particularly in fostering students’ ability to understand, interpret, and apply mathematical concepts in everyday contexts. However, numeracy learning in elementary schools is often presented through conventional approaches that lack contextual and culturally relevant learning resources. Integrating local cultural narratives, such as urban legends, into digital learning media offers an innovative strategy to enhance students’ engagement and numeracy skills. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a Story Jumper-based learning media utilizing urban legend content to improve elementary school students’ numeracy abilities. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, consisting of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The participants involved elementary school students, teachers, and expert validators. Data were collected through validation sheets, observation, questionnaires, and numeracy tests. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively, while qualitative data were examined through content analysis. The findings revealed that the developed Story Jumper media met the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Expert validation indicated that the media was highly feasible for classroom implementation. The practicality assessment demonstrated positive responses from both teachers and students regarding usability, attractiveness, and accessibility. Furthermore, the effectiveness test showed a significant improvement in students’ numeracy performance after using the media. The integration of urban legend narratives provided meaningful contexts that facilitated students’ understanding of numerical concepts and problem-solving processes. In conclusion, the Story Jumper-based urban legend media is a valid, practical, and effective learning resource for enhancing numeracy skills among elementary school students. The media also contributes to preserving local cultural heritage while supporting innovative digital learning practices in primary education.
