Abstract

Abstract

The method of bio specific affinity for separation has gained attention and continues to be developed today. The affinity precipitation technique is continuously being refined because it is simpler, less complex, and highly economical without reducing product purity. Moreover, the obtained polymers can be reused and easily scaled up. The polymer used for affinity precipitation has functional groups that can act specifically, making it known as a “smart polymer.” The hydrophilic polymer and soluble liquid can be replaced with hydrophobic ones, becoming insoluble under certain conditions such as changes in pH, temperature, ionic strength, or the addition of reagents. This study aims to utilize ligand pairs for soluble liquid polymers based on macro ligands that are easily developed for large-scale applications. The research was conducted in two stages and is ready for enzyme purification testing. First, the synthesis of NIPAM polymer was carried out, with NIPAM and AIBN as fixed variables, while MPA served as the variable. Second, PABA conjugation was performed, where the synthesized NIPAM polymer was conjugated with the PABA ligand, making PABA characterization the changing variable in this phase. The dry weight of carboxylated Poly(NIPAM) obtained was 91.3%, carboxylated Poly(NIPAM)-co MPA 0.4 was 90.4%, and carboxylated Poly(NIPAM)-co MPA 0.6 was 88.9%. In the SEM test, the morphological structure of Poly(NIPAM) showed relatively harder surfaces. In the FTIR test, a significant change was observed in the spectra at 3300-2500 cm-1, which became weaker due to the presence of carboxyl groups characterized in Poly(NIPAM). The spectrophotometer test revealed the LCST condition at a temperature of 40°C. The conjugation of PABA onto Poly(NIPAM)-co-MPA 0.6 with 50 mg PABA showed better conjugation efficiency, with a conjugation yield of 52.6%. Incorporation of PABA shows recovery of trypsin between 65-80 %.

Abstract

The service was carried out in Weuraya Village and Lampaya Village, Lhoknga District, Aceh Besar Regency with the target of fish farmer business groups. At first, the need for fish in Lhoknga and its surroundings only relied on fishing at sea by fishermen. Over time, the need for fish and employment for the community here eventually led to fish farming. Seeing the potential of fish farming that is getting better in this area, a group of people in this area took the initiative to form a fish farming business group located in Lampaya and Weuraya Villages, Lhoknga District, Aceh Besar. These two villages are located not far from the center of the Banda Aceh city market, estimated at about 25 km from the location of the farm which can be reached for approximately 1 hour drive. Determining the composition of fish feed ingredients is an important issue because not all compositions will provide the best results for fish growth. The high price of fish feed in the market with low protein content causes fish farmers to experience difficulties in cultivating fish. The objectives of this activity are first, to concoct their own animal feed from tofu dregs, snails or rice snails, wheat flour, rice bran, and coconut meal which are very widely available around Lhoknga. The second training was for the Lampaya and Weuraya fish farmer groups in Lhoknga sub-district to make fish feed. All members of the Lampaya and Weuraya fish farmer groups are involved in the two scopes of work above, so that these two groups will have the knowledge and skills to make quality and healthy fish feed for fish. From the results of the monitoring of the service team, it is clear that the high enthusiasm of the community can be measured by the crowd of socialization and training participants, as well as the many questions that arise during the practice of making fish pellets. At the end of the activity, the community has mastered how to make their own fish feed and can save 60% of the total cost

Abstract

The rapid development of industrialization and urbanization in the world impact increased water pollution. Human activities, such as dam constructions, excessive water consumption, severance of river flows, compaction of riverbanks, and excessive use of riverbed vegetation, disrupt river flow and alter the original hydrological cycle. In response to these conditions, this study aims to analyze water quality and river quality status to set up a watershed environmental management strategy in Aceh Province as a case study. River water quality was analyzed descriptively by comparing the results of laboratory tests with parameters, namely TSS, pH, BOD, COD, DO, total phosphate, nitrate, and fecal coli. These parameters were then transformed into the environmental index (Water Quality Index and Pollution Index). It was found that Water Quality Index (WQI) results are shown from 50 to 70. WQI with the Good category is at Kr. Weh which is in the Central Aceh city. The medium-less type is found in 10 watersheds. The water quality with the category of Less is found at 3 points, namely Kr. Aceh, Cr. Doy, and Cr. Daroy. The quality of the river water in the Aceh region, from upstream to downstream, has decreased in quality with a lightly polluted status based on the Minister of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia No. 27 of 2021 for class II.

Abstract

The development of  biodegradable plastics offers a  sustainable alternative to conventional ones, reducing environmental impact. This research is the fabrication and characterization of biodegradable plastic films derived from large-leafed mangrove (Bruguiera gymnorrhiza) starch, chitosan, and clove essential oil (CEO)  as  an  antioxidant  additive.  Glycerol  was  used  as  a plasticizer, while carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and carrageenan were incorporated as thickeners. The effects of glycerol (2.7–9 ml), chitosan (4– 6% m/m), and CEO (0–8% m/m) concentrations on mechanical properties, morphology, and biodegradability were examined. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy confirmed the successful incorporation of chitosan and CEO. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed surface roughness and cavities due to incomplete chitosan dissolution. The optimized formulation (3% starch, 5 ml glycerol, 5% chitosan, and 5% CEO) exhibited superior mechanical properties, with a tensile strength of 710.98 MPa, Young’s modulus of 582.65 MPa, and elongation at break of 121.4%. Soil burial tests demonstrated complete degradation within 14 days. These findings highlight the potential of mangrove starch-based bioplastics for food packaging and eco-friendly applications.
