Abstract

Transferring meaning embedded by English idiom is not an easy way to do. The meaning contained by English Idiom cannot be comprehended by merely knowing the meaning from each word arranging the idiom. Dealing with English idiom in translation is quite hard because the translator has to transfer the meaning of English idiom into Bahasa Indonesia rightly. On the other hand, it is quite difficult to find the equivalence term in Bahasa Indonesia reflecting the same meaning as it is reflected in the source text. To manage this problem, the translation strategies need to be applied. This research focuses on analyzing the translation strategies used by the translator in transferring the meaning of English idioms into Bahasa Indonesia in the subtitle of  Pitch Perfect 3 Movie. The research method is descriptive qualitative method.. Baker’s translation strategies is used as guideline in classifying the translation strategies used. After finding the type of translation strategies employed, further identifying whether the meaning of English idiom is transferred rightly in Bahasa Indonesia. According to the finding, translation by using idiom in similar meaning and disimilar form was not used by the translator to translate the idioms. The frequency of  translation by using idiom in similar meaning but disimilar form strategy is 4 idioms. 46 idioms were translated by using paraphrased strategy. It is only 1 idiom was translated by using omission strategy. that the meaning of 36 idioms are transferred accurately. The meaning of four idioms were transferred Less-accurately. The meaning of 11 idioms were classified as inaccurate translation

Abstract

Today, humans must think critically to face all challenges. In order to improve Indonesia's PISA survey results, the government developed the 2013 curriculum, which emphasizes critical and creative thinking. The aims of this research were to determine the proportion of HOTS and HOTS characteristics reflected in high school English test questions. The objects of the research were the English midterm and final exams for the 10th and 11th grades in the second semester of the 2021–2022 academic year used at MAN 1 Lampung Tengah. This study used a qualitative content analysis design. The study found that in the mid-term 10 grade, there were 6 items, or 20%, labeled "very low," whereas in the mid-term 11 grade, 14 items, or 46.67%, were labeled "enough." For the final Exam 10 class, 5 items were found at 12.50%, referred to as "very low," and 13 items were found at 32.50%, referred to as "low." The outcomes of HOTS-based questions were 86.84%, with questions about critical thinking abilities being the most prominent. This was followed by HOTS questions that help students develop creative thinking abilities (10.52%) and questions that aid in the development of problem-solving skills (2.63%).

Abstract

This study investigated the impact of YouTube as a learning medium on vocabulary mastery among seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 33 Bandar Lampung during the 2024/2025 academic year. While YouTube is primarily known as an entertainment platform, it can also serve as an effective tool for learning, particularly in enhancing vocabulary. Employing a quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach, the research involved 35 students selected from a population of 173 across five classes. The study utilized descriptive text materials, with data collected through pretests and posttests administered before and after using YouTube videos as learning aids. Pretest and posttest scores were analyzed using paired sample t-tests via SPSS 16. The analysis revealed a significant result (Sig. = 0.000 < α = 0.05), confirming that YouTube had a significant effect on students’ vocabulary mastery. The findings imply that incorporating YouTube as a teaching tool can enhance language learning outcomes and provide an engaging platform for vocabulary development
