Abstract

This study was conducted to explore strategies used by Englishteachers in delivering online learning through Google Classroom. It was done through a case study in three classes with three English language teachers at a vocational high school. The data were collected by using  questionnaire, interview, and observation. Then, data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion were conducted to analyze the data. The results showed that all three teachers encountered some obstacles in managing their online learning through Google Classroom. Most of the problems came from the students' participation, internet connection, and material delivering. As a result, it encouraged the teachers to seek and implement certain strategies that were appropriate to cope with these problems. They applied several online teaching strategies to solve the problems in managing online learning through Google Classroom, that is, by facilitating students with WhatsApp group to communicate with them, meeting the students who did not have smartphone directly at school, adapting the materials from several  references, giving assignment in a simple way, encouraging the students with reward and punishment, and coordinating to each homeroom teacher.

Abstract

The significance of English language acquisition within the Indonesian education system lies in its impact on students' futures, but they face many challenges in mastering it. It discusses the fundamental skills required for proficiency, including reading, listening, speaking, and writing, emphasising enhancing listening abilities. The framework integrates English into education, and language centres collaborate with other departments. Furthermore, it emphasises the importance of reading comprehension and the role of resources like BBC Learning English in improving this skill. A study was conducted at SMAN 14 Bandar Lampung, aiming to evaluate eleventh-grade students' reading proficiency and the impact of BBC Learning English on their language abilities. Additionally, it outlines the research methodology, which employs quantitative analysis with a one-group design to assess students' reading comprehension levels and the effectiveness of the intervention. The researcher used a pre-test and post-test to measure the students' capacity to read narrative text. The research found improved scores between the pre-test and post-test. The mean of the pre-test was 60.89 while the post-test was 78.54; the difference was 17.65 in the mean. The hypothesis table shows that the significance (2-tailed) value is 0.00, which is below the threshold of 0.05. Therefore, we reject the null hypothesis (H0) and accept the alternative hypothesis (H1), confirming the existence of a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the PQRST method in improving students' reading comprehension of analytical exposition texts. The research design employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design involving two groups: the experimental group, which was taught using the PQRST method, and the control group, which received passive instruction through direct teacher explanations. Data were collected through a reading comprehension test to measure students' understanding. The Independent Sample T-test result indicates significant differences between the experimental and control groups' post-test scores. The two-tailed significance (Sig) value was 0.000, which is lower than the significance level of α = 0.050, confirming a statistically significant difference between the two groups. The experimental group, which applied the PQRST method, scored higher than the control group. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the PQRST method significantly enhances students' reading comprehension of analytical exposition texts.

Abstract

The accounting profession plays a pivotal role in ensuring the financial stability of organizations and in delivering reliable financial information through financial statements. Ethical conduct within the profession is essential to uphold public confidence in the accuracy and transparency of corporate financial reporting. Integrity, objectivity, professional competence and due care, confidentiality, and professional behavior in line with established accounting standards are the fundamental ethical principles in accounting that both individuals and organizations must continually uphold. This study aims to examine ethical violations within the accounting profession by analyzing the case of financial statement manipulation perpetrated by PT Kimia Farma Tbk. A qualitative, descriptive research approach is employed to identify breaches of fundamental accounting ethics principles. The findings reveal that PT Kimia Farma Tbk. committed violations of four core ethical principles: integrity, objectivity, professional competence, and professional behavior. These violations were manifested in the overstatement of net income reported in the company’s 2001 financial statements. Such manipulative practices not only inflicted financial harm on investors and the public but also undermined the credibility of the accounting profession and eroded trust in the capital market.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of literature circles on English language skill development among non-English major university students, with attention to gender-based differences in outcomes. Sixty students were purposively selected and evenly divided into experimental and control groups, with balanced gender representation. Using a mixed-methods design, data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and classroom observations. The experimental group participated in literature circles, while the control group received conventional instruction. Quantitative analysis revealed significant improvements in speaking fluency (x̄ = 85), vocabulary acquisition (x̄ = 82), and reading comprehension (x̄ = 87) among students in the experimental group. Qualitative findings showed that female students tended to be more active and reported higher levels of enjoyment, while male students demonstrated increased engagement when assigned specific discussion roles. The collaborative structure of literature circles fostered critical thinking, peer interaction, and learner autonomy. These findings suggest that literature circles are an effective, learner-centered, and gender-responsive method for enhancing communicative competence in EFL classrooms. Structured facilitation and role-based accountability can help equalize participation across genders, supporting more inclusive language learning environments.

Abstract

Involving students to participate in overcrowded classrooms activities is a challenging problem faced by teachers. They may spend much time to make students pay attention and concentrate on managing classroom activities. In Indonesia, many classrooms still go beyond thirty students, and it is common to be more than forty students in a class. As a result, the students are halfhearted and reluctant to participate actively in classroom activities. Promoting interactive activities such as forcing students’ engagement in group discussion and presentation seem to be alternative ways to aid students to learn English in a meaningful way and make them communicate effectively in English during teaching and learning process. Thus, the aim of this paper is to highlight some interactive activities for effective learning which can motivate and engage students with learning activities and create their interest in learning English in overcrowded classrooms.
