Abstract

Sijunjung Regency is one of the regencies in West Sumatra Province which is located in an area prone to landslides, earthquakes, fires and floods. Floods and landslides often occur due to changing river flow patterns, erosion and sedimentation in the Batang Ombilin, Batang Sukam, and Batang Palangki rivers, as well as the geology of Sijunjung Regency which mostly consists of rocks. This study aims to map the spatial distribution of areas prone to floods and landslides in Sijunjung Regency based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) using scoring and weighting methods as well as parameters that compose the vulnerability which are then overlay. The parameters used in the analysis include land use, slope gradient, land elevation, rainfall, soil type, rock type and river network. The data used comes from administrative maps, spatial data, and regional hydrological and climatological information. The research found that flood-prone areas in Sijunjung Regency are dominated by moderate areas 68%, high areas 9%, and low areas 23%. The verification rate was 75%.

Abstract

Mount Marapi is one of the active volcanoes in West Sumatra, which erupted on December 3, 2023, followed by heavy rainfall that triggered a cold lava flood. This event caused damage to land, infrastructure, and vegetation around Sungai Pua Subdistrict, Agam Regency. This study aims to analyze vegetation density changes before and after the lahar event and to map the affected areas using Sentinel-2 satellite imagery, applying the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and spatial overlay methods. The results show a decrease in very dense vegetation from 623.127 ha (42.38%) to 199.095 ha (13.54%), and an increase in poor vegetation from 354.269 ha (24.09%) to 551.566 ha (37.50%). The total vegetation density change reached 734.03 ha out of 1,470.32 ha. Identification of affected areas also indicates that the lahar spread along river channels from the summit to the slopes, with an affected area of 110.832 ha. These areas include agricultural land, plantations, and settlements along the riverbanks that were damaged by volcanic materials.

Abstract

Mount Marapi is one of the most active volcanoes in West Sumatra with frequent eruptions and significant volcanic activity in recent years. Monitoring surface deformation is essential to understand subsurface magma dynamics and support volcanic hazard mitigation. This study aims to analyze surface deformation of Mount Marapi using the Differential Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (DInSAR) method based on Sentinel-1 satellite imagery. The data used in this study cover the period from January 2023 to March 2025. Processing was carried out using SNAP software to generate interferograms and deformation maps. The results indicate spatial variations of deformation in the form of uplift and subsidence around the volcanic edifice. Uplift is interpreted as magma pressure or fluid movement beneath the surface, while subsidence may indicate deflation or material compaction after eruptions. These findings demonstrate that DInSAR is effective for monitoring volcanic deformation and can support early warning systems for volcanic hazards.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the level and typology of Urban Sprawl in Padang City in 2024 using a Geographic Information System (GIS) approach. The continuous growth of the population, along with the expansion of economic and social activities within the community, has become a major factor driving the uncontrolled expansion of urban areas toward the city’s outskirts. This phenomenon is generally characterized by increasing population density, a growing number of new buildings, changes in road network patterns, and shifts in land use from non-urban areas to built-up areas. This study utilizes several types of data, including population data, building data, new building data, the location of the city center, and road network data for the year 2024, which are analyzed spatially. The analytical method is conducted through scoring and classification techniques to identify the spatial distribution patterns of urban development and to determine three typologies of Urban Sprawl, namely low, medium, and high levels.

Abstract

The development of tourism areas based on natural potential requires planning that considers the physical conditions of the area so that development can be carried out safely and sustainably. Nagari Tikalak, Solok Regency, has diverse topographic characteristics so that terrain analysis is needed to support the determination of tourism development zones. This study aims to produce a Digital Terrain Model (DTM) based on UAV aerial photography imagery, testing its level of accuracy using the slope method as the basis for compiling a tourism development zone map. Data processing was carried out using Agisoft Metashape to produce the DTM and ArcMap for spatial analysis. The results of the slope analysis classify areas into suitable, moderately suitable, and unsuitable zones for tourism development, where suitable zones are predominantly on flat to gentle slopes and unsuitable zones are on steep slopes that are potentially prone to landslides. and oriented towards sustainable development in Nagari Tikalak.

Abstract

West Pasaman Regency has varied topography that influences land surface temperature (LST) distribution. This study analyzes LST patterns and compares estimates from Landsat 8 and Landsat 9 imagery in 2024 using a quantitative remote sensing approach via Google Earth Engine. LST was derived from thermal infrared bands, while vegetation influence was assessed using NDVI and Pearson correlation. Results show uneven temperature distribution affected by topography, vegetation cover, and land use. Landsat 9 produced slightly higher average temperatures (±30–38 °C) than Landsat 8 (±26–32 °C). A strong correlation was found between both datasets, with a negative correlation between NDVI and LST, indicating that denser vegetation corresponds to lower surface temperatures. Both satellites are suitable for LST analysis, with Landsat 9 showing higher sensitivity.

Abstract

Final Project Report entitled “Analysis of the Compliance of Business Licences with the Spatial Plan in Central Bangka Regency”. This report is based on the premise that business licences which do not comply with the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW) can lead to conflicts over land use and hinder regional spatial planning control. The process of assessing the compliance of land use in business licences in Bangka Tengah Regency has so far been carried out manually, which is time-consuming and prone to inaccuracies in spatial analysis. The aim of this final-year project is to develop a digital geographic information system capable of visualising the locations of business permits and monitoring their compliance with the spatial plan, in order to streamline the work of the spatial use compliance approval unit. This report utilises spatial analysis using the overlay method, which involves superimposing maps of business permit locations onto spatial planning maps using ArcMap to produce a classification of spatial compliance levels. The results of this processing are then visualised on the ArcGIS Dashboard, which displays interactive maps, graphs and statistical indicators of spatial compliance. System design was carried out through general system analysis and design, including data flow diagrams and input and output designs. The research methods comprised field studies—namely observation and case studies—as well as a review of the literature relevant to the research problem. The research results indicate that the developed system facilitates the retrieval of spatial compliance information and accelerates decision-making regarding land use control in a more effective and efficient manner.
