Abstract

Plant utilization is an option for medication including plant utilization that carried out by the community of Talang Seluai village. This research hasbeen done in Talang Seluai Village, ulu ogan district, ogan komering ulu area, South Sumatra province, to list medical plant and medical traditional recipes. This research was conducted in october to december 2016.This research was done by descriptive research using a qualitative methodology. The qualitative research was conducted by interview semi structural based on a list of questions. The result showed that the plants of which used medicinally by the village community of Talang seluai, there were 26 species in 18 families, one plant was not detectable, Yakhian, belongs to Leguminosae. Lamiaceae is the most used plant of all. Leaves was the most used and garden was the most collected among them and boiled in the water was the most drug processing used. At Talang Seluai, there were six traditional drug herbs, consist of two internal drugs (diarrhea and rheumatic medicines) and four external drugs (rheumatic, inflammation, wound and skin disorders).

Abstract

Obesity prevalence has increased in recent years and has caused severe health problems. This research was carried out to obtain alternative antiobesity therapy with more minimal side effects. The antiobesity activity of rose apple (Syzygium Jambos (L.) Alston) leaves on female Wistar rats induced by high carbohydrate food for 45 days and subcutaneously injecting MSG 2 g/kg BW. Extraction was carried out using the maceration method 96% ethanol. The test parameters observed were body weight, food intake, stool consistency and weight, liver and abdominal fat tissue weight. The results showed that high carbohydrate food and monosodium glutamate could induce obesity. Ethanol extract of rose apple leaves at doses of 25, 50, and 100 mg/kg BW body weight had antiobesity activity by inhibiting body weight gain significantly compared to a positive control group (p<0.05). The highest antiobesity effect was shown by the ethanol extract of rose apple leaves at doses of 50 mg/kg BW with % inhibition of body weight gain of 169.3% to a positive control group. Ethanol extract of rose apple leaves may reduce appetite but didn’t have a laxative effect and couldn’t reduce fat deposits in the liver and abdominal fat tissue.

Abstract

Diabetes melitus merupakan penyakit yang disebabkan terganggunya produksi hormon insulin oleh organ pankreas. Diabetes melitus adalah salah satu penyebab kematian tertinggi di dunia dan di Indonesia. Pada tahun 2022, sebanyak 22594 masyarakat Garut terkena diabetes melitus dengan diadakannya kegiatan  penyuluhan ini guna memberikan edukasi kepada masyarakat desa Jati mengenai penyakit diabetes melitus dengan metode sharing session antara lain penyuluhan melalui presentasi materi, pretest dan posttest, pemberian brosur dan diadakan sesi tanya jawab oleh tim PKM Fakultas MIPA Universitas Garut. Kegiatan PKM ini diikuti 121 warga, setelah dilakukan perhitungan data hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa masyarakat yang memahami penyakit diabetes terjadi peningkatan sebelum dan sesudah penyampaian materi yaitu dari 54,1% menjadi 74,96%. Serta memiliki kesadaran dan komitmen untuk menerapkan pola hidup sehat. Kegiatan ini merupakan kolaborasi dengan Mahasiswa University Pendidikan Sultan Idris Malaysia dan LAZNAS Bakrie Amanah dengan pembagian sembako sebagai penutup kegiatan untuk membantu dan meringankan beban ekonomi masyarakat desa Jati.

Abstract

Liver fibrosis is a progressive liver disorder and a major global health concern, prompting increasing interest in natural products with antifibrotic potential. Pometia pinnata, traditionally used to treat liver disorders, lacks sufficient experimental evidence supporting its hepatoprotective effects. This study evaluated the hepatoprotective and antifibrotic activity of a flavonoid-containing ethyl acetate fraction obtained after n-hexane defatting of Pometia pinnata fruit peel in a dimethylnitrosamine (DMN)-induced hepatic fibrosis rat model. Male rats were divided into six groups: normal control, DMN control, three treatment groups receiving the flavonoid fraction at doses of 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg body weight, and a silymarin-treated group (100 mg/kg). Dose selection was based on preliminary toxicity data and previous studies on flavonoid-rich extracts. Liver injury was assessed using serum biochemical markers (ALT, AST, ALP, and bilirubin), histopathological examination, and fibrosis scoring with Masson’s Trichrome staining. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey’s post hoc test (p < 0.05). DMN significantly induced hepatic injury and fibrosis, while flavonoid fraction treatment improved liver function and histological features in a dose-dependent manner. The highest dose showed effects comparable to silymarin and significantly reduced fibrosis scores (r = −0.91, p < 0.001). These findings indicate that Pometia pinnata fruit peel exhibits promising hepatoprotective and antifibrotic potential.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health issue in Indonesia. In Sukahaji Village, 56 stunted children, 8 infant deaths, and 48 pregnant women at risk were recorded due to inadequate nutrition and maternal health monitoring. This activity aimed to improve the knowledge of pregnant women, prospective mothers, and health cadres regarding nutrition, pregnancy care, and early stunting prevention. Health education was conducted using a participatory approach through lectures, discussions, Q&A sessions, and educational media. Evaluation was carried out using pretest and postest instruments. Participants’ knowledge significantly improved; the “good” category increased frpm 31% to 69%, while the “poor” category decreased from 25% to 6%. Participatory health education effectively improved knowledge and has strategic implications for preventing stunting and reducing infant mortality in Sukahaji Village.
