Abstract

This research aims to know the students' understanding of English-speaking learning material during the pandemic era in the 8th grade of Junior High School 3 Ngadirojo. It is case study research that focused on the students' understanding of speaking learning material. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach. The research subject is students in the 8th grade of SMPN 3 Ngadirojo. The research was conducted from March-May 2021 in an online way. The data collecting techniques used in this research are tests and interviews. The research instruments used to collect the data are material sheets and cell phones. Techniques that are used to analyze data are data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The result showed that most of the students in the 8th grade of Junior High School 3 Ngadirojo can understand the speaking learning material well during online learning in the pandemic era. But not all students could understand the material caused by problems such as internet network connection, learning communication tools, teacher learning techniques, students' ability to understand the material, and other issues. Online learning is one of the most used learning strategies during the pandemic era, even though it could not reach the curriculum target.

Abstract

The objectives of the research are to find students’ writing ability in online English learning. Themethod used in the research was a case study. The researcher used the quantitative. The data weregathered from this study through tests. The subjects of this research were students of XII MIPA 2 atSMA Negeri Tulakan, who were 20 students. This research finding showed that the mean score ofstudents’ writing ability is 70.85. Then the median of students’ writing score is 66. The modus ofstudents’ writing ability is 57 and 64.The standard deviation in SMA Negeri Tulakan is 75. From thefinding and data analysis, itcan be concluded that 12 from 20 students get the score of writing understandard deviation. Then eight from twenty students get the score up to standard deviation. Most ofthem have difficulties determining ideas or content, organization or coherence text, arranginglanguage use or grammar, word choice or vocabulary, and mechanics errors, including punctuation,capitalization, and spelling. There are some data or facts about students’ ability to construct theirs.Based on the English teacher interview’s result, teaching English online learning is not going well.Both the teachers and students must be able to adapt to online learning. Another obstacle of onlinelearning is some students don’t have a cellphone that supports the online learning media. Manystudents had difficulties, such as internet network constraints and limited quotas of internet data.Students are also less interactive in English online learning.

Abstract

This study aims to find out students' Interest in English Online Learning reviewed from Aspects ofInterest, Elements of Interest, and Indicators of Interest. This research wasa case study. The approachused in this research was a qualitative descriptive research approach. Participants of this study weregrade XI students of TKJ,1 consisting of 36 students and 1 English teacher at SMKN 1 Giritontro.The data of this research were obtained from observations, documentation, and interviews. Dataanalysis techniques used qualitative analysis, namely data collection, data reduction, presentation,conclusion drawing, and verification. The results of the data analysis showed that the results ofobservations made by researchers on online learning videos in grade XI TKJ 1, namely onAspect ofInterest, with an average percentage of 46%, had a range of values with a description of LessInterest. While Element of Interest got, an average percentage result of 53% had a range of valueswith a description of Interest. Lastly, the Indicator of Student Interest got a result of 51%. Apercentage of 51% had a range of values with a descriptionof Interest.

Abstract

This research investigated non-EFL students’ spontaneous technique to reduce their English-speaking anxiety. This research proposes an instrument in three areas and the findings are parallel with them. The first scope is the use of various instruments which could give both strengths and lacks to students. The proper instruments help students to maintain the time necessary. The inappropriate use of the instrument lengthens students’ time to perform their speaking. The second finding scope is students' method of reducing anxiety through managing language use which covers diction, synonym, intonation management, length of speech, punctuation use, and repetition. The verbal language used represents students' previous experience and their readiness. The third finding scope is students’ method of reducing anxiety through managing non-linguistic aspects that cover facial expression, eye contact, body language, and changing of standing up position. The main conclusion is that reducing anxiety needs a well-prepared method or program.

Abstract

Keterampilan dasar berbicara bahasa Inggris perlu selalu dimonitor dan ditingkatkan dari segi kualitas dan kuantitasi kepada siswa tingkat SD karena merupakan tahap dibentuknya acquisition atau pondasi berbahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing. Pelaksanaan pengabdian masyarakat pada artikel ini ditujukan sebagai upaya membantu memperbaiki kemampuan pelafalan alphabet dan phoneme bahasa Inggris siswa kelas 1 SDN 3 Karangharjo, kabupaten Grobogan, provinsi Jawa Tengah pada semester ganjil 2023-2024..Kegiatan dijalankan dengan dua kegiatan inti yaitu pengajaran dan latihan pelafalan alphabet dan phoneme bahasa Inggris, dan pelafalan sejumlah kosa kata sederhana bahasa Inggris dengan pengunaan ilustrasi objectnya. Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan adalah adanya perbaikan pada pelafalan 26 alphabet bahasa Inggris dan phoneme yang paling sering digunakan dalam percakapan, serta prakteknya dalam pengucapan kosa kata sederhana bahasa Inggris. Penulis juga menyajikan satu prtotype kegiatan sejenis yang dapat dikembangkan oleh pelaksana di masa depan. Kesimpulan utama adalah keberhasilan kegiatan pengabdian perbaikan keterampilan dasar lisan bahasa Inggris dipengaruhi oleh metode, media, instrument, dan kesesuaian program dengan level usia dan karakter siswa. Penggunaan kombinasi dua atau tiga metode dan kombinasi media disarankan digunakan untuk kegiatan pengabdian bahasa Inggris secara lisan secara tatap muka kepada siswa usia dini khususnya level SD.

Abstract

The research analyzed the social indicators of history study and education values based on the Sangiran Museum study. Social and educational studies based on museum materials are still developing because they have potential prospects. Sangiran Museum is a popular ancient museum in Indonesia with valuable materials, but it still has future development prospects. Data were taken by applying documentation and observation methods. The observation was based on a qualitative approach to obtain and analyze the data. The observation was done by coming to the Sangiran Museum on 27 April 2024. It proposes two main findings and discussion. The first is the construction of the history indicators that consist of macro indicators of social-humanity aspects, physical collection, natural science, and history text era. The second finding concerns the academic and tourism potential of the Sangiran Museum values that are presented simultaneously. The academic value of the Sangiran Museum for historical study is excellent for its complete and valid collection. Meanwhile, the potential for future non-historical materials is in the English for Spesific Purposes (ESP) study based on the museum materials or study area. In the scope of prospects for tourism destinations, the museum needs to be enlarged for its activity on the internet, especially for promotion on various social media. Moreover, the facilities and information through the internet should also be developed, such as online museum libraries, catalogs, promotions, narratives of history speeches, etc. Official wisdom is also needed to support future development prospects.

Abstract

Generic structure quality fulfilment of a narrative text draft gives benefits to be constructed as a qualified full paper. This research aims to reveal English college students’ mistakes in constructing proper narrative text generic structure drafts. The data is 45 students’ work. The students were ordered to construct a title and write a narrative draft that consisted of orientation, complications, and resolutions in the social problem area. The drafts were analyzed for linguistic fulfilment of those three parts of the generic structure. The finding of students’ mistakes in constructing the orientation draft proposed is unclear, and the subject’s identity is absent, as well as the absence of supporting information and the main problem statement. The students’ mistakes in constructing complications are proposing incoherent stories that are not related to orientation, jumbling stories, focusing on different figures with the orientation, giving over quantity of personal perspective, and the absence of conflict development. The students’ mistakes in constructing the resolution are writing only the conclusion and giving no solution. English teachers or lecturers are suggested to investigate and improve students’ linguistic backgrounds to be coherent with the narrative text before giving the writing training practice.

Abstract

This research analyzed engagement methods of five Instagram digital advertisements by using an instrument including content, types of advertisement, human and non-human figures, color involvement, size, and written text by using content analysis. Combining the main product with supporting materials, presenting product ingredients, and price information is the main finding of the content. Findings of four main advertisement types includes informing, entertaining, persuading, and encouraging viewers to be critical thinkers. The involvement of human and non-human beings is recommended to be applied only for coherence specific products. The application of the figures should consider the social, cultural, and belief values of potential viewers. Color findings show usage of lightening and complex colorful advertisements obtain viewers’ serious attention. The size and location of the pictures were found to represent the priority order of introducing products to customers. Meanwhile, short written texts were found to be the best performance to present interactive and communicative written text in a digital advertisement. In the discussion, this research proposes the prototype of the engagement method to attract viewers’ attention to a digital advertisement that consists of a social survey or observation, psychical performance, written text, and implicit meaning construction.Keywords: Engagement, attracting, attention, digital, advertisement ABSTRAKPenelitian ini menganalisa metode pendekatan dalam lima iklan digital di Instagram dengan menggunakan instrument yang meliputi konten, jenis iklan, figure manusia dan bukan manusia, warna, ukuran, dan teks tertulis dengan content analysis. Temuan pada konten meliputi penggunaan materi utama dan pendukung, dan harga produk iklan. Empat jenis iklan ditemukan dengan tujuan memberikan informasi, menghibur, membujuk, dan mendorong penonton berpikir kritis. Penggunaan figure manusia dan bukan manusia direkomendasikan hanya untuk iklan produk yang terkait dan relevan. Pengunaan figure manusia sebaiknya mempertimbangan aspek sosial, budaya, dan keyakinan dari calon penonton iklan. Penggunaan warna mencolok dan kompleks dapat membantu memperoleh perhatian serius dari penonton iklan. Pengaturan ukuran dan letak tiap bagian gambar di iklan merepresentasikan urutan prioritas dalam memperkenalkan produk pada penonton atau pelanggan. Sementara itu, penggunaan teks tertulis yang pendek menunjukkan hasil sangat baik untuk menjalin komunikasi yang interaktif dan komunikatif. Pada tahap analisa, peneliti menyusun dan memaparkan satu prototype metode menarik perhatian penonton pada iklan digital yang terdiri dari tahap observasi, penampilan fisik iklan, teks tertulis di iklan, dan penyampaian pesan secara implisit atau tidak langsung.Kata Kunci: Pendekatan, menarik, perhatian, digital, iklan

Abstract

Human rights in education are an essential area that needs to be the highest priority for improving almost the entire world, especially for the 2030 agenda. This research analyzed the human rights in education values inside the UN Economic and Social Council’s declaration goal 4 of the official document entitled “Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. The data are analyzed through a critical discourse approach in qualitative design and discourse organization analysis method. There are nine main human rights in education found inside the declaration including ensuring and protecting education equality, education, and learning development acceleration, preparing and providing sufficient education funding, cultural diversity in education, providing a safe environment for physical and mental health, providing safe, modern and convenient infrastructure and teaching-learning facilities, gender equality in education, internet literacy in education, involving every country as to the world’s global meeting and cooperation of education. The focus of improvement on human rights in education is concluded to be dynamic, which is influenced by economic, welfare, politics, IT, and other integral aspects of development and depends on the world’s and a country’s needs and future desire.

Abstract

Kegiatan pelatihan ungkapan like dan dislike pada siswa kelas 3 sekolah dasar telah dijalankan dengan dua area kerja utama yang telah berhasil dicapai yaitu peningkatan pengetahuan dan keterampilan terkait materi dan nilai sopan-santun. Kompetensi siswa pada penggunaan ungkapan like dan dislike dalam bahasa Inggris menunjukkan peningkatan. Di sisi lain, peningkatan tersebut juga selaras dengan penanaman sikap yang baik yaitu siswa menjadi paham dan dapat mempratekkan ungkapan like atau suka dalam bahasa Inggris dalam porsi sewajarnya secara lisan. Begitupun pada saat mengekspresikan rasa dislike atau tidak suka, para siswa dapat membedakan ungkapan tidak suka dengan baik. Hal lain yang penting adalah penanaman kesadaran pada siswa bahwa rasa dislike tidak memberikan pembenaran untuk memberikan celaan negatif pada apa yang mereka tidak sukai. Nilai tambahan lain yang didapatkan dari kegiatan adalah berhasilnya meningkatkan rasa percaya diri siswa untuk mempraktekkan materi secara lisan di depan kelas dengan pendampingan langsung oleh pelaksana.
