Abstract

Introduction: Temporomandibular joint disorders is a pathologic conditions as a caused of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction syndrome in stomatognathic system. This disorder was suffered in the population and affected the quality of life. This study was done to know how was the condition of temporomandibular joint disorders in the student of Faculty of Dentistry Universitas Padjadjaran population. Another objective of this study was the diagnosis classification of revised RDC-TMD Axis I could be applicated in Indonesian population, and to calibrate the diagnostic. Methods: The research sample was 65, with 43 female and 22 male. Result: The result showed that 50% of the student of Faculty of Dentistry Universitas Padjadjaran minimally suffered one diagnosis of temporomandibular joint disorders; with the most disorder was disc displacement with reduction, in left or right joint, followed by myofacial pain with limited opening. Conclusion: The conclusion of this research there was a high percentage of temporomandibular joint disorders in student population based on Revised Research Diagnosis Criteria for Temporomandibular Joint Disorders 2010, with the most disorder were disc displacement with reduction. So, it was important to socialize this sign and symptom of these disorders to community.

Abstract

Introduction: Infants with complete cleft lip and palate (CLP) exhibit asymmetrical characteristic of nasal deformation. Pre-surgical treatment by making presurgical nasalveolar molding (PNAM) with a nasal stent aims to assist the sucking and swallowing function of infants with CLP as well as passively moving separated alveolar segments and correcting nasal deformities in order to obtain more functional and aesthetically satisfactory surgical results. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effect of PNAM insertion with a nasal stent on the correction of nasal symmetry in infants with complete unilateral cleft lip and palate. Methods: This research is a quasi experimental with one-group pre-treatment and post-treatment design. Five unilateral complete CLP infants were subjected to anthropometric measurements of alar displacement, columella height, nostril width nostril height and nostril axis inclination to obtain anthropometric ratios on the cleft and non-cleft sides with three-dimensional surface scanning before (T1) and after (T2) insertion of PNAM with nasal stent. Results: Analysis of the students' t-test showed a significant (p-value 0.05) between T1 and T2 in four anthropometric-ratio. Insertion of PNAM with nasal stent has resulted symmetrical nasal morphology of infants with complete unilateral CLP pre labioplasty with an increased ratio of columella height, nostril width, nostril height and nostril axis inclination between the cleft and non-cleft sides. Conclusion: Installation of PNAM with nasal stent can correct pre-labioplasty nasal symmetry.

Abstract

Dental bridges are one of the treatments for tooth loss cases. Dental profession students at the Faculty of Dentistry of Universitas Padjadjaran (Unpad) conducted their first dental bridge treatment on patients. Evaluating patient satisfaction is essential to measure the success of treatments provided by dental students. This study aims to determine patient satisfaction with the dental bridges treatment provided by dental professional students at the Prosthodontics Polyclinic in terms of chewing, aesthetics and phonetics function, maintenance of the denture, and psychological aspects. This type of research is descriptive cross-sectional. Eighty-two dental bridges users were selected using total sampling at the Prosthodontic Polyclinic from September 2022 to February 2023 out of a total population of 86 users. The inclusion criteria included male or female patients using PFM or full metal dental bridges in the upper or lower jaw, worn for at least seven days to 6 months after definitive cementation, and made a control visit after the insertion of dental bridges. The instrument used was a modified questionnaire called the Patient Denture Assessment (PDA) and an Indonesian version of PDA (PDA-ID), with 12 modified Likert scale questions given online. The results of the study showed that 86,6% of the respondents were satisfied with masticatory function, 97,6% were satisfied with aesthetics and phonetics, 82,9% were satisfied with the maintenance of the denture, and 93,9% were satisfied with the psychological aspects of the use of dental bridges. Most patients were satisfied with dental bridges regarding chewing, aesthetics and phonetics function, denture maintenance, and psychological aspects.

Abstract

Background: The magnetic dental attachment is an integral component of the overdenture. Dental magnetic attachment will be in the oral cavity and is influenced by the oral environment. Previous study has shown that acid solutions contained in commonly consumed foods or drinks can corrode magnets and reduce magnetic attraction. Consuming mineral water in daily life is a common thing done by Indonesians. The objective of this research is to investigate the impact of mineral water on both the magnetic attraction and the occurrence of corrosion.Method: Mineral water which are sold commercially with different pH of 6.8 and 7.5, were used. Magnetic dental attachments were immersed in both types of mineral water for 7 and 14 days. The magnetic attraction was quantified by employing a materials testing machine and corrosion on the magnetic surface was seen using SEM. Result: After the immersion of magnetic dental attachments in mineral water with a pH level of 6.8 for 7 days and 14 days, magnetic attraction decreased by 5.36% and 21.77%, respectively.  While after immersion at a pH level of 7.5 for 7 days and 14 days, magnetic attraction decreased by 9.39% and 22.89%, respectively. SEM examination showed that the surface of the magnetic dental attachment was corroded after being immersed in both types of mineral water and in both groups of immersion times.Conclusion: Immersing the magnetic dental attachment in the mineral water with different pH level decreased the magnetic attraction force as well as corroded the surface of magnetic dental attachment.
