This research was conducted from November 2020 to January 2021 on farmer's land in the region. This study used a survey method with direct observation techniques on corn plants, and sampling was carried out using sweep nets and sticky traps. The data collected included types of key insect pests, symptoms of damage, population, and intensity of damage to corn by important insect pests. The results showed three key insect pests on corn plantation in the study area: Locusta migratoria, Ostrinia furnacalis, and Helicoverpa armigera. This key pests were detected in corn from the early vegetative to the generative period. The symptoms of damage on corn caused by Locusta migratoria, Ostrinia furnacalis, and Helicoverpa armigera occurred six days after planting (DAP), 28 DAP, and 56 DAP, respectively. Symptoms of damage to corn plants caused by Locusta migratoria are tears in the leaves resembling serrations on the edges of the leaves, both young and old. Symptoms of damage to corn plants caused by Ostrinia furnacalis are grinding holes on the stems so that the stems so that the stem become damaged and then break. Grinding marks on the cobs and dirt and grinding powder characterize symptoms of damage to corn plants caused by Helicoverpa armigera. Populations of the key insect pests Locusta migratoria, Ostrinia furnacalis, and Helicoverpa armigera were very small, with 4, 3 and 1 insect, respectively. Moreover, for the highest intensity of damage to corn plants was caused by Ostrinia furnacalis, but it was categorized as light damage intensity because it was > 0 % ≤ 25%.

Abstract

Abstract

Entomopathogen fungi are fungi that become pathogens in insects. This fungus lives, grows, and develops by taking nutrients from the host it is infected with so that the host is disrupted in its metabolism and will then die. This research aims to identify entomopathogen fungi from horticultural plants in Boentuka Village, Batu Putih District, South Central Timor. This research has been carried out from July to October 2022. Sampling of dead insects or infected with entomopathogenic fungi and soil was carried out in Boentuka Village while isolation and identification of entomopathogen fungi were carried out in the Microbiology laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Nusa Cendana. This research uses a purposive sampling method by taking samples based on observations of insects infected with entomopathogen fungi, which are then stored in sample bottles. In addition, soil samples from the site of the entomopathogen fungi attack were also taken and taken to the laboratory, with Tenebrio molitor larvae being used as bait to catch the entomopathogen fungi. The fungi that grew on the larvae and samples of the insects was then isolated and identified. The parameters of observation are the characteristics of isolates that grow macroscopically and microscopicly. The results of the research obtained four isolates of entomopathogen fungi Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger, Beauvaria bassiana, and Fusarium sp. In the future, this isolate will be tested for its ability as a biological agent for pest control in vitro and in vivo.

Abstract

Cashew is one of Indonesia's leading commodities as an exporting country because it has a positive trade specialization index. The main pest of cashew plants that affects production and can cause crop failure is the Cashew Planthopper (WPM). Cashew Planthopper has several species. Therefore, monitoring is needed to determine the types of WPM in the field and their distribution areas on the mainland of East Flores Regency. This study was conducted from May 2024 to July 2024 by directly capturing WPM imago. The results of a survey of cashew plantation locations in East Flores Regency, 5 locations were determined with high levels of attack due to WPM, which caused crop failure, namely: Ile Mandiri District, Lewolema District, Tanjung Bunga District, Titehena District, and Demon Pagong District. The trapped WPM were then identified by looking at the characteristics of the wings, thorax, and abdomen. The identification results obtained 2 types of WPM from the genus Sanurus, namely, Sanurus flavovenosus and Sanurus indecora. The distribution area of the attack and the level of damage to Sanurus from each district have different intensities with different levels of damage, namely the intensity of heavy damage in red is in Titehena District 53.04%, the intensity of moderate damage in yellow is in Lewolema District 20.65%, Ile Mandiri District 36.91% and Demon Pagong District 36.94% while the intensity of light damage in green is in Tanjung Bunga District 0.55%.
